Chapter 185: COOKING FOR GRAND DAD
"I am so sorry for her behavior Astrid, she has been spoiled from a kid by her parents so she got used to it," Astrid could only give a slight nod.
"I only want to become friends with her, I never knew she still has a lot of grudges against me."
Donald could tell she wasn’t happy, "I don’t know what I can do to make things go easy, but I want you to know I am always by your side no matter the situation." Astrid whipped her head up at this.
"Really? You would trust me no matter the situation?" She asked and Donald nodded his head.
"Of course, you are like my child," he moved closer to her patting her hair, "I can’t explain or know the pain you have gone through and that is a great revert for me but..." a small smile appeared on his face as that familiar gaze landed on him.
"I promised to be there for you till death,"
"I want to take over my dad’s company," she announced all of a sudden leaving Donald speechless.
"But... you can’t take over mine, it’s just a small company... you can leave that to your little sister."
"That is my mum’s sweat," Astrid cut him off. "I have my shares in that company but Dad took it all, granddad.." she called, grabbing his hands.
"I am sorry if you think I am being greedy but I don’t want to leave any of my mum’s property to him."
"What do you want me to do? Buy it? Pull out investors?"
"Their only investors are the Logans and Adams, the two most prominent families. Since I want to take over I wouldn’t want to lose their favours" Donald looked up to Julian as he glanced down.
"But... it belongs to your father now, and I don’t have powers to control it." Astrid nodded.
"Alright Grandpa... would you have breakfast, I can quickly cook something for you," she announced and Donald smiled, in satisfaction.
"Of course little one," he let out tapping the bridge of her nose and this brought a warm smile in the heart of Astrid.
"The last time I had a meal prepared by a family was twenty years ago when your mum used to prepare them for me." Astrid chuckled at this.
She hardly cooked ever since she had gotten married to Julian, she only cooked a few times in the past year when she lived alone because she had no choice.
"Alright Grandpa... consider your breakfast dome," she announced as she rushed toward Maren who was busy texting Miles.
"Let’s go cook.." Maren’s eyes widened as she stretched her hands forward.
"No... I can’t.. My hand is..." Before she could complete her words she was dragged into the house leaving Julian and Donald.
The smile on Donald’s face disappeared now, glancing at Julian, "Why are you here after impregnating the one you insisted that you love?"
Julian swallowed hard at this, he didn’t know the response to give. Donald took in a deep breath tapping his stick on the ground.
"You should have your sit grandfather... you don’t want... aww!" Julian groaned when Donald’s stick landed on his back.
"You jerk, if your grandfather wasn’t a close friend of mine or your mother being the best friend of my late daughter I would have messed you up."
"Grand da.."
"Don’t call me that until the marriage ceremony with Mattie is done, I wouldn’t want her giving birth to that child out of wedlock," Julain nodded nervously.

Meanwhile, Astrid stood at the kitchen counter, expertly chopping a bell pepper for the omelet she was making for her grandfather’s breakfast. Maren stood beside her, attempting to chop an onion.
However, it was clear that Maren was not exactly the next Gordon Ramsay.
As Maren began to chop the onion, the water from the vegetable splashed into her eyes, causing her to yelp in surprise. Astrid couldn’t help but chuckle at her friend’s misfortune.
"Here, let me give you something else to do," Astrid said, handing Maren a carrot to chop. "Maybe this will be easier for you."
Maren grinned, taking the carrot from Astrid. "Hey, I am not that bad in the kitchen! I can handle chopping a carrot."
However, as Maren began to chop the carrot, it became clear that she was indeed not exactly the most skilled chef.
She chopped the carrot into uneven pieces, some of which were far too large.
"You know what... maybe you should deal with the salmon... pour some oil in the pan." Astrid collects it from her.
Maren carefully placed the salmon fillet in a hot skillet, but instead of adding a dash of oil, she accidentally poured an entire bottle of soy sauce into the pan. The salmon fillet sizzled and splattered, covering the stovetop in a sticky mess.
Astrid raised an eyebrow, trying to hide her amusement. She has always looked up to her. This was the first time she had seen her not able to do anything.
"Maren, maybe you should start with something simpler. Like toast."
Maren’s face fell, but she refused to give up. "No way, I can do this. I have watched cooking videos online."
Astrid chuckled. "Watching videos isn’t the same as actual cooking, Maren."
Maren huffed but continued to attempt to cook the salmon fillet. She added a sprinkle of salt but ended up pouring the entire container into the pan. The salmon fillet was now swimming in a sea of salt and soy sauce.
As the minutes ticked by, the kitchen grew thicker with the smell of burnt food and smoke. Astrid’s eyes watered, and she coughed, trying to clear her lungs.
"Maren, maybe we should just order takeout, that would be faster" Astrid suggested, trying to hide her frustration, she shouldn’t have brought Maren with her.
"No... you promised him already that you wouldn’t make him breakfast," Maren let out, "You don’t want to disappoint him now do you?"
Astrid could only nod as she watched her friend now. Maren added a dash of pepper, but ended up sneezing, causing the pepper to spill all over the counter.
As the chaos continued, Astrid tried to intervene, but Maren refused to listen.
The kitchen was now a disaster zone, with pots and pans scattered everywhere, and the smell of burnt food hanging in the air.
"You brought me in here to help, don’t give me that frustrated look.." Astrid nodded and just decided to allow Maren to do her thing.
She thought she would cook for her grandfather next time. "Astrid was about to walk out to get her phone so she could order takeout when her eyes widened in alarm as she realized what was happening.
"Maren, the oven! Did you turn it on? It’s on fire!"
Maren’s eyes went wide with terror as she stared at the oven, which was now engulfed in flames. "Oh no, oh no, oh no! What do we do?"
As the smoke alarms began to blare, Astrid quickly sprang into action, grabbing a fire extinguisher and attempting to put out the flames. But as she struggled to operate the extinguisher, the flames grew higher, and the smoke became thicker...
"Oh no... Maren, let’s get out of here.." Astrid let out pulling Maren with her, but when they got outside of the kitchen Astrid pushed Maren out, Astrid looked back and it all happened in a few seconds.
The whole kitchen exploded, throwing Astrid out of the kitchen.
