Chapter 131: THE LAST WORD FOR HER DAUGHTER.

"Tonia, you can’t tell me that you didn’t change your ways," Elizabeth mumbled in shock, seeing her irritated as she was now staring at her.

Tonia’s eyes blazed with anger as she squatted, her voice furry.

"Change my ways, oh please... You think I don’t know you want to ruin the little family I’ve brought up."

Elizabeth’s expression turned confused, and she leaned back.

"What? Why would I want to hurt my sister?" Tonia’s laughter echoed through the room, a cold, mirthless sound.

"Happy? Me? You want me to be happy?" She scoffed, her eyes flashing with resentment.

Elizabeth’s heart broke at Tonia’s words, and she shook her head.

"Seeing you back again and threatening the little life I finally got the courage to build is like a disaster for me!"

Tonia’s face twisted in a snarl. "You think you deserve happiness?"

Elizabeth’s eyes locked onto Tonia’s, a hint of sadness in her voice. "One thing you can’t understand, Tonia, is that the truth will still prevail one day. I might have left that inheritance to you, but the owner will come for it one day."

Tonia’s eyes narrowed, and she pulled Elizabeth roughly, her hands jerking Elizabeth’s shoulders.

"How dare you talk about inheritance!" she growled and now closed her palm around Elizabeth’s neck.

"You can kill me, kill your sister, and have my blood on your hands!" Elizabeth yelled, her voice rising and Tonia began to strangle her:

Elizabeth’s face contorted in pain as Tonia’s grip tightened around her neck. "You bitch! I don’t care!" Tonia screamed, her voice hoarse.

Just as Tonia’s anger seemed to boil over, the door pushed open, and Rowan stood in the doorway, an amused look on his face.

"Oh Lord! What the heck is happening here?" Dr. Lee rushed toward Elizabeth, concern etched on his features.

"Goodness, Mrs. Gilbert!" Dr. Lee exclaimed, helping Elizabeth to her feet.

Elizabeth coughed out, blood staining her lips. "We... were just arguing," she said as she managed to gasp for breath.

Rowan’s eyes met Dr. Lee’s, and he raised an eyebrow. He had always known Mattie to be a handful, but now he could see where she got her behavior from.

As Dr. Lee tended to Elizabeth, Rowan’s gaze lingered on Tonia, a mixture of curiosity and wariness on his face.

"I will be back for you sly bitch!" Tonia yelled as she picked up her bag and ran out of the ward.

Dr Lee was about to call her back when Elizabeth grabbed her hands shaking her head.

"I am fine," she assured him.

This made Rowan think back to Astrid, despite being in pain they would never accept that they were not doing okay.

"I had come because of him," Dr Lee explained as he helped her settle down and checked her pulse and all.

She glanced at Rowan to see he was the same one that had given him the details of Julian, "Oh... Thanks, Mr. Chris," Rowan could only smile gently at her appreciation.

He strutted toward her, "I can’t help but get reminded of someone seeing you." She stared at him before trying to smile a bit.

Dr Lee walked out to give them space after he was so sure she was stable.

Rowan placed his hands in his pocket, waiting for him to leave, the moment he shut the door Elizabeth fired her question at him.

"Did you check?"

"I am surprised that despite me not being a doctor I need to do it when you have a series of doctors with you."

"I am so sorry for that, I never planned to hide it from her because I am scared of the result," she apologized again.

He pulled out the document and handed it over to Tonia, "It will better you check the result yourself," she snatched it from his grip and when checked it out.

Her hands moved to her mouth, clamping it hard, as tears trickled down from her face.

"No... no it can’t be.." she looked up at Rowan who had a pitiful look nom.

"I am so sorry Miss..." She shook her head, "This can’t be true..." she whispered, pulling out the files she ripped them off leaving Rowann speechless.

"I won’t accept it,"

"Miss.."

"Leave! Please!" she let out, her heart thumping real hard, her hand trembling.

"Mr Chris, can you hide the truth forever within you? I don’t want anyone to know this." Rowan glanced back at her.

"But? It will prevail.."

"Not, when I am gone... I can’t bear her knowing that when I am still living." Rowan stared at her for a while, he could only respect her decision then bowed and left with the document he had just brought.

She bit her lip painfully, "He knew it all, he did it to destroy me.." she shook her head.

Tears heavily poured from her eyes, then the door swung open, and she looked up to see the one person she was expecting to be here.

"Mattie," she called and she smirked at her, "Mrs Danile... or should I call you Miss Gilbert." Stephan also walked inside the room.

"Why are you both here in the middle of the night? It’s dark and dangerous..." Mattie strutted toward her gently.

"I get to know you are my mother’s sister," at the mention of this Tonia almost breaks down. Her sister’s daughter should also be like her child, her heart hurt seeing this.

She looked down sadly and nodded her head, "Yes, I am..."

"Mum also made it known that you used to be in love with Dad," Tonia shook her head

"No, little one I wouldn’t want to spoil your mum’s image before you but it’s all a lie your mum..."

Mattie’s hand connected with Tonia’s face, leaving Stephan speechless. "Hey Mattie..." Stephan tried to intervene, but Mattie’s warning gaze silenced him.

"Don’t you dare, come closer," Mattie sneered, her smirk twisting her face as she took in Tonia’s weak state.

"I asked you to execute the plan all this while, but you keep giving excuses," Mattie announced, her eyes narrowing at Stephan.

Stephan swallowed hard, his eyes darting nervously between Mattie and Tonia. "Mattie..."

Mattie’s hand struck Tonia’s face again, and she leaned in, her voice dripping with malice. "Would you have any last words you would want me to tell your daughter?"

Tonia’s eyes welled up with tears as she struggled to speak. "Wh... what?"

Mattie’s grin grew wider. "I asked a question, give you the chance, but you don’t seem to be responding." she gestured for Stephan to hand her the glove

Stephan handed Mattie the glove, which she put on, her gaze never leaving Tonia’s terrified face.

Tonia’s eyes locked onto Mattie’s, tears streaming down her face as Stephan handed Mattie a syringe.

"Any last words?" Mattie asked again.

Tonia’s voice barely above a whisper, "A word for my daughter, right?"

Mattie rolled her eyes. "I am so sorry for not being able to be a good mother to her."

Tonia’s words tumbled out, a desperate plea. "That she should forgive me, for leaving her to a monster and turning her into one."

Mattie’s expression turned cold. "I have got no time for this."

With a swift motion, Mattie injected the syringe into Tonia’s neck. Stephan shut his eyes, wincing at the sound of Tonia’s labored breathing.

Tonia’s words trailed off, her voice fading. "Th.... I... I... am sorry for not recognizing her..."

As Tonia’s eyes widened, her mouth agape, Mattie felt an unsettling pang. She released Tonia’s lifeless body, which slumped onto the bed.

Mattie turned to Stephan, her voice barely above a whisper. "Sorry, but I need to do this for my mother."

Handing Stephan the syringe, Mattie’s gaze lingered on Tonia’s still form. "Clean it up."
