Chapter 132: LOST WORLD

"Mum... please don’t go... mum stay.." Astrid kept rolling on the bed, as she screamed, trashing her legs around and her hands reaching out to touch someone.

"Mum..". She kept mumbling under her lips, just then her room door swung open, and Julian rushed towards her.

"Hey, Astrid... open your eyes, look at me... nothing is wrong," but she kept murmuring under her lips.

Tears trickled down her face, Julian pulled her up and wrapped his hands around her as he tried to comfort her.

She wrapped her hand back burying her head in his chest, "I had a bad dream," she whispered and then suddenly pushed him away.

"Mum, I want to see mum.."

"What? It’s the middle of the night and besides you aren’t that strong we just got home."

Astrid shook her head, "No, I want to see Mum... I have a feeling something is wrong." Her voice trembled, betraying her growing unease.

"Astrid..." Julian began, but was interrupted by the door opening,

"Julian... my stomach hurt." Mattie cried out, Astrid glanced at Juliana and grabbed his hands.

"Please.." she let out.

"Astrid, you need rest you shouldn’t leave for anywhere now have a good night," he let out Astrid bit her lip she knew he had done his best.

"But.." Mattie cried out again and Julian sighed, he helped Astrid to settle,"

"We will go to the hospital first thing tomorrow," He let out as he left to where Mattie sat, he turned her wheelchair, now trying to comfort her while continued crying.

Maren walked into the room almost immediately, she had heard the commotion from her room and decided to check on Astrid.

"Astrid.." She called and she immediately sprang up to her feet, "Please can you take me to the hospital? I have a bad feeling tonight."

"But.."

"Please." Maren nodded her head and they were about to leave when they got disrupted by her phone ringing.

Before Astrid could pick up, Marem answered the call, her expression turning serious.

"Dr. Lee," she said, surprised by the late-night call.

Astrid’s eyes widened as she listened to Maren’s end of the conversation.

"What?" Astrid asked, her voice laced with concern, as she took the phone from Maren.

"Mrs Logan, I think it would be best if you came to the hospital as soon as possible, along with someone," the voice on the phone said.

Astrid’s world began to spin. Hospital? What happened?

Panic set in, Astrid’s thoughts racing wildly. "I will be on my way," she said and hung up.

"Maren.." she called her voice breaking without thinking, Astrid rushed out of the mansion, her bare feet pounding the cold pavement.

She sprinted toward the gate, darkness blurring around her. All she thought was her mum, and how to get to her mum, and wrapped her hands around her. She didn’t even know how to get there.

Regret for her leaving her tonight was beginning to bite her, just like the gate was beginning to swirl in her.

"Mum, please be strong for me... I promise not to leave you in the hospital again," she whispered.

Just as she reached the gate, a car screeched to a halt in front of her. The window slid down and it was Miles.

He also had heard the commotion, so he decided to help. The car door swung open, and Astrid slid inside, out of breath.

Maren eyes locked onto hers, filled with concern. "Astrid, buckle up," she said, as Miles sped away from the mansion.

As the hospital loomed ahead, Astrid’s anxiety spiraled.

The silence between the the three lads was oppressive, punctuated only by the sound of Astrid l rapid breathing.

Astrid’s mind whirled with worst-case scenarios. She felt lost, scared, and alone.

Maren hand found hers, offering a reassuring squeeze. "You shouldn’t be scared okay?"

Astrid’s grip remained tight, her eyes fixed on the hospital ahead, if they could fly or disappear she would have needed that mostly now.

"All she cares about is how to get to the hospital ahead," was the only thing going on in her head.

After what seemed like hours to Astrid Finally, the car pulled up, in front of the hospital building she didn’t wait for Miles to park before sprinting out of the car.

Finding her way to her mum’s room, she had almost gotten there when she noticed some nurses and doctors in front of the mum’s room.

Her heart was thumped hard, and fear crept into her body as her leg was becoming jelly to the ground but she needed to push through.

The moment they saw her they gave space for her, "Time of death, 2:34 am." That was the only word she heard.

Her eyes met with her paled mum on the bed, as they used a white cloth covering her.

That jerked her back to her senses making her run inside, "No! she cried out running into the room as she sat beside her mum.

"Mum! Mum!" she shook her, but her body was stiff her lips chapped, "Mum I am here,"

She tried to lift her hand to touch her face, but it felt heavy and unresponsive. Her body began to shake uncontrollably.

"Mum... please look at me!" Astrid pleaded, her voice trembling as she stomped the bed in fear. "Mum..."

Desperately, Astrid’s hands trailed down her mother’s body, gesturing for her to wake up. But there was no response. Her mother’s body was stiff and cold.

Astrid’s eyes welled up with tears as she slipped into shock. "Mum..." she whispered, her voice barely audible.

Maren entered the room and was also left in a state of shock, her expression somber.

"Mrs. Logan, I am so sorry," D Lee apologized gently.

Astrid’s gaze locked onto him, pleading for answers. "This is a joke right?" Astrid stuttered.

Dr. Lee’s eyes filled with compassion. "I am afraid she didn’t make it," he said softly.

Astrid’s world crumbled. She felt like she was drowning in a sea of despair. "No... no... no..." she whispered, her voice shaking.

The doctor’s words echoed in her mind, but Astrid couldn’t accept them. She couldn’t lose her mother, not now, not ever.

Maren approached Astrid cautiously, her arms open. "Astrid?" she called, trying to comfort her.

But Astrid pushed her away, her eyes blazing with anger and grief.

"You’re supposed to save her!" Astrid screamed at Dr Lee. You’re supposed to make her better!"

His face fell, but he understood Astrid’s pain. "I am sorry, Astrid," he repeated. "We did everything we could."

Astrid’s body shook with sobs, her heart shattered into a million pieces. She felt lost, alone, and abandoned.
