Chapter 125: ASTRID ANGER 2
The room was still silent, the only sound being Astrid’s muffled sobs as she lay in Julian’s arms.
The tension was noticeable, and everyone’s eyes were fixed on the door, waiting for the doctor’s update.
Astrid recalled she was crying in Julian’s arms and quickly raised her head from Julian.
Her eyes were red and puffy, her face streaked with tears. She had seen the flatline on the monitor and the frantic movements of the doctors, and she couldn’t shake off the feeling of dread.
Just then, the door opened, and Josh walked out, his face pale and drawn. Leila rushed to his side, with her fake concern.
"Honey, you look pale. What’s wrong?" she asked.
Astrid’s eyes narrowed as she glared at Josh. She scoffed at them both.
"You’re worried about him? After what he did to my mother?"
"Excuse me?" Josh let out not even a single worry in his tone.
In a flash, Astrid was out of Julian’s arms, her eyes blazing with fury.
She launched herself at Josh, her fingers digging into his hair as she pulled him towards her.
"You monster!" she yelled, her voice echoing off the walls. "You hurt my mother!"
Josh’s face twisted in pain as he tried to pry Astrid’s fingers out of his hair.
"Let me go, you sly bitch!" he growled, his eyes flashing with anger.
Julian stepped forward, his voice calm but firm. "Hey, let go. You are hurting him." But Astrid wasn’t listening.
Maren, who had been watching the scene unfold, smirked as she stepped forward. "I think she’s got this, Julian," she said, her eyes glinting with amusement.
"Astrid please let go." Maren let out as she tried to grab her hands she added her sort of craziness pulling Astrid hands and also g side sign Josh’s hair.
"You crazy monsters let go of my husband’s hair," Leila cried and this time Astrid finally released Josh’s hair.
But not before pulling out a handful of strands. Josh’s eyes widened in pain as he clutched at his scalp and Maren smiled at her friend.
"You’re going to pay for that, you little brat," he snarled, taking a step forward.
But Miles and Julian were quick to intervene, stepping forward to block Josh’s path.
"What do you want to do?" Julian asked, his eyes locked on Josh.
Josh’s face twisted with rage. "She’s my daughter. Get away from her, and let me teach her a lesson she will never forget."
Astrid stepped forward before they could say anything, not afraid to face Josh.
"What are you going to do? You have done more than enough. I am no longer scared of you. I am going to tell you off right now: stay away from me and my mother."
The room fell silent, the only sound being the heavy breathing of them.
Josh’s face was red with rage, his eyes bulging with fury. Astrid stood tall, her shoulders squared, her eyes flashing with fear.
"If anything happens to my mother, I will make sure to hunt you down and destroy you not minding that you have my father,"
Josh squinted his gaze, "Are you threatening me?" he asked
Then a sardonic chuckle escaped Astrid’s lips, "Threat?" she mumbled as her teeth gritted infuriated.
"It’s a warning Josh, a great warning I have a fucking best thing to be the best daughter I could be to you. Trust me even if anything happens to my mother, I will hunt you down with every breath in me," she affirmed pointing at him.
Julian moved further, pulling Astrid with him, "Let me go, I want to stay here till they come out," she argued.
"You need to be calm," he whispered, trying to reason with her.
He could see how stressed she was already. She needed rest but the different issues transpiring this week hadn’t given her much rest.
"I am not listening to..." her words were left hanging when Julian lifted her from the ground, as they walked out of the place.
"His abs are sure not for just view," Maren teased and Miles moved closer to her.
"Hey, that’s wrong.." the little smirk on her face disappeared and she glared at him making a stand right.
Josh could only watch left in shock and surprise at the way his daughter had just raised her voice at him.
He sure knows not to mess with her when she finally loses, she had once shown that anger to him, and it almost cost him his hand.
So he knew when to back up, "Honey, I told you not to spoil her too much, now see what it has caused her."
Josh glanced at Leila and the only gaze he had in his eyes was fury.
"Enough," he let out and just in time the doctors walked out.
They were all looking exhausted and sweaty, "How is she?" he asked.
"Luckily, we were able to revive her, but we need to rest. The sudden obstruction of air going to her brain at the cost of almost losing her life."
"Obstruction of air?" Maren repeated, and the doctors nodded.
"She was looking fine before we walked out of that room unless.." Maren paused now staring at Josh.
"Are you trying to say I am the reason why she almost lost her life a few minutes ago?"
"I never said so, but only said you are the last person left in the room. You could explain to us how she suddenly got it," she answered.
Nadine moved forward having a pitiful smile, "You shouldn’t get mad at Dad, I was sure he didn’t know what had occurred."
"So I think everyone should stay back for now until she Is well you all go see her.
"Really?" they heard Astrid’s voice behind them and they all nodded for her.
"Fine then I will stay with my mum," she stated and Dr Lee couldn’t argue with her since he knew she wouldn’t listen.
The doctor left and Julian pulled on Astrid’s hands, but she pulled it back angrily, obviously still mad at him for what he had done before.
"I am grateful for every one of you, I think it best you leave now since I will stay enough here for the menacing,"
"But, she..."
"Dad, don’t get me mad so leave gently before I lose it again to you."
Maren is proud of her girl, she can’t even help but ask herself who this diva is.
"If that is what you want them we would leave, and never complain if we don’t come again,"
Astrid smirked, seemingly satisfied with the way things were unfolding as the three of them left.
She turned to Julian and was about to also tell him off when Maren grabbed her hands shaking her head.
"Girl, I know you hate to hear this, but I think it’s best if Julian stays here with you." Astrid was too exhausted to start complaining.
"Alright, thanks," she said, her voice barely above a whisper. With that, Astrid turned and walked into her mother’s ward, leaving the others outside.
Maren turned to Julian, her eyes flashing with anger. "Dude, you better maintain a safe distance. You need to show remorse and apologize if you want to be forgiven. No matter what, you shouldn’t leave."
Maren then glanced at Miles. "You should leave for your house too," she announced in her voice.
With that, she turned and walked off, a small smile playing on her lips.
Miles called after her, "Maren, let me take you home!" But Maren didn’t stop, she just kept walking.
They eventually got outside, and Maren finally stopped, staring at Miles with a mixture of confusion and annoyance.
"What’s your problem?" she asked, her voice firm. "Why are you here now?" Miles sealed his lips, and a small smile appeared on his face.
"I just want to spend a little time with you," he said, his eyes locked on hers. Maren’s expression changed, and she burst into a fit of wild laughter.
"What’s funny?" Miles asked, confused.
"You," she replied, giving him a weird look. "Me? What’s so funny about me?" Miles asked, his brow furrowed in confusion.
Maren’s laughter slowly subsided, and she looked at Miles with a serious expression.
"I thought you hated me so much? So I am fucking confused about how you suddenly changed your mind about that."
"Oh, well it’s.... I never hated you, Maren, I just didn’t want to accept you because I always assume the worst of you," she nodded her head proudly at this.
"Oh please, you should continue assuming the word of me because I am so going to blow your mind,"
"Ma..".
Maren’s expression turned icy as she gazed at Miles. "You were right," she said, interrupting his words.
"I climb on the bed of powerful men. I might not have done it before, but I am about to start doing it."
Miles’s face fell, and the small spark of hope in his eyes disappeared.
"Maren, I know you’re mad at me, I get it. I am going to take it slow and..."
His words were cut off as a sleek black car pulled up in front of them.
Maren’s smirk grew wider as she glanced back at Miles. "I am not mad at you, Miles. I just don’t have the heart to condone the pitiful me anymore."
The car window wound down, revealing the charming smile of the president’s son.
"Let’s go, baby girl," he teased, his voice low and husky.
Maren smacked his hands away, a playful glint in her eye. She winked at Miles, a cheeky smile spreading across her face.
"You can go have a rest today," she said, blowing a small kiss at Miles.
With the help of the guards, Maren slid into the car. Then the guard who had helped Maren open her door bowed at Miles before going to the passenger seat and drove off immediately.
