Chapter 119: ALLEN

Julian stepped into the musty, abandoned house, cobwebs clinging to his clothes.

The air was thick with neglect, and the silence was oppressive. He wondered how many decades this house had stood vacant.

As he ventured deeper, his footsteps echoed off the walls.

Julian’s gaze swept the dusty rooms, searching for any sign of the blueprint.

Faded portraits hung askew, and forgotten furniture shrouded in dust sheets seemed to hold secrets.

Elizabeth’s words resonated in his mind: "Please, I need you to take a crucial architectural blueprint for me."

"I want to hand it over to my little sweet girl, I couldn’t teach her enough of which I should have. So I need to hand it to her before I leave. This blueprint should guide her through and make her be whatever she wants to be.

On normal ground, no one can ever send Julian Logan this sort of errand, he wants the founder to do any favor for someone.

But for Astrid, he is ready to help till she achieves whatever would help her grow, he just realizes how much she has grown on him.

He blew out a rasp of air looking already frustrated coming to that kind of environment.

"How can I fucking get to this secret place without getting tired," he sighed looking at his outfit which is dirty.

"Please no matter how the blueprint mustn’t get into the hands of others, especially ex-husband, Josh."

He has a lot of things to say, a lot to know about this lady he calls his wife. He wants to know more about her. She has a lot of stories.

Finally, he found his way into the closed room.

He entered the room that appeared to have been an office.

A rolltop desk, yellowed with age, dominated the space. Julian carefully opened the creaky drawers, revealing stacks of yellowed papers and forgotten documents.

The faint inscription on the desk drawer caught his eye: "E.R. 1952." Elizabeth’s initials.

Julian’ curiosity intensified. What was the significance of this blueprint? And why had Elizabeth chosen him for this task?

As he rummaged through the papers, a hidden compartment revealed itself. Inside, a worn leather tube contained the blueprint, yellowed and cracked with age.

Unrolling it, Julian discovered a stunning architectural design, a grand, modern building that seemed out of place in this old house.

He disassembled through the drawer again still looking for something else, and finally found a box, just like she had described.

He stared at them and his attention diverted back to when she had first asked him for this favor.

"Please, only give these to my baby when I am gone. She would worry, and it would cause her undue distress right now if she knew I am still very sick,"

Julian’s eyes widened at this. "Gone? You mean... you’re not getting better?" he asked.

Julian’s hands rummaged through the dusty box, as she recalled how her eyes clouded.

"My daughter has sacrificed everything for me, giving up her dreams. I couldn’t bear to tell her the truth. I asked the doctor to lie about my condition so she could focus on her life."

Julian reminisced about Astrid’s excitement when her mother regained consciousness, and his heart ached knowing she would lose her soon.

"Can I trust you with Astrid’s well-being?" Elizabeth asked, her voice trembling. "Will you treat her with care, protect her like an egg, when I am no longer here?"

Julian nodded solemnly.

Elizabeth’s gaze searched for him. "I know you might not make her happy, but promise me you will help her achieve her dreams."

Julian swallowed hard. "I promise, Elizabeth. I will take care of Astrid."

Elizabeth’s eyes softened. "I trust you, Julian, trust Allen to have raised you well,"

Julian’ brow furrowed. How did Elizabeth know his mother’s name, Allen? And why did she seem hesitant to reveal more?

Elizabeth’s frail hand grasped Julian’. "Thanks a lot, Julian, I appreciate this from you," Julian nodded, his mind racing with questions.

Julian sighed and walked out of the house, his mind was still rising with the way she called his mother’s name

"My daughter doesn’t know about the house, that box containing every paper of that house, you can help me sell it, and give her the money, she would need it so badly when I am not with her."

He got to his car with his eyes looking through the house, Astrid has always lived on average but this house cost a fortune.

He could tell that Elizabeth was once a powerful woman, how come Astrid became a high school dropout and no one could sponsor her?

Even though she had refused to attend school, she could do so online if she had the money.

He pulled out his phone and threw the box in his car, dialing his mum’s contact.

He shouldn’t do this but he knows one thing, anyone who knows his mum as Allen was once close to her.

"Hello son, it surprising you are the first to call me,"

"Elizabeth...." He paused not knowing if he should call her with the last name of Astrid. Or does she have the last name she is taking?

"Does that name sound familiar to you?" He asked, noticing he couldn’t call the name full.

"No, why did you suddenly ask that out of the blue?" Julian could sense the worry in her tone he knew when his mum was lying so he could tell his mum was lying.

"Mum, don’t lie to me, do you want me to come over?"

"Julian, should I be worried?" She retorted, still not answering his question.

"How come you know of someone known as Elizabeth? Well, there are a lot of..."

"Mum, stop lying and tell me the fucking truth I got no patience for that kind of game."

"I don’t,"

"I can’t call you without having my reasons mum, do you happen to know her?"

"Julian, I am a Logan... we are popular and everyone knows me," she persisted.

"Allen," this made Becky pause.

"Your name, you hardly give that out just a few people know that name,"

Becky swallowed hard at this, "Fine, maybe I am being paranoid, you can come home it ain’t som..."

"Mum please just tell me who she is to you and why you are that worried," Julian cut her off.

Becky took a deep breath, she hadn’t talked about Elizabeth or seen her in a long time.

"She is Tonia’s sister, is there any problem? Why would you..."

"Who is Tonia?" Julian asked again, interrupting her.

"Yeah, your ex-fiancée mother, she is her older sis, and has been long from,"

"She is Astrid mum," Julian announced and hung up
