Chapter 118: THE CALLER

Chapter 118: THE CALLER

"So talk," Maren urged him the moment Astrid shut the door.

"I am surprised by your sudden change of behavior why? So I wouldn’t be able to blame you for what you had done?" Miles asked, earning a scoff.

She helped herself sit, and when Miles moved closer to her she slapped his hands off helping herself sit,

She was still on a drip so she couldn’t move much, but she still didn’t allow him to offer her help.

Miles felt a bit hurt at the way she had been rejecting him constantly, "It’s my body, you got any problem with that?" her voice stern as her gaze bore into that of his.

"Maren?"

"Oh please, stop crying over spilled milk," she interrupted him rudely.

Miles was furious at this, she wasn’t even feeling bad for what she had done.

"Was it my baby?" he asked to be sure before he went further.

"Yeah, it was?" he replied sassily.

"If the same was done to you would you be in this world breathing right now?" His words touch something in her.

"Then that would have been better don’t you think?" Miles noticed how she felt offended by his response and regret washed immediately. He never thought she would get hurt by those words.

"Maren, I am not trying to get you mad, or make you feel bad that it’s your body and you can’t do anything about it," she raised her eyebrow at him and sat right.

"Excuse me?

"You should have told me from the onset," he argued.

"Really?" Miles shot her a confused gaze, "So you can say I wanted to pin someone’s pregnancy on you?"

Miles was left astounded, yeah it was the exact word he would say he would never believe her, seeing how cunning always acts but now she had done this he felt hurt and frustrated.

"Miles, have you forgotten what you told me that last time?"

"Yeah, I didn’t but.."

"Miles, I am giving you exactly what you want now so tell me what is the problem with you?" Miles was just speechless for some seconds, she was saying the right thing.

This was what he wanted, she stayed away from him but now he can’t even say much.

"I get that you are trying to stay away but..."

"Miles please, when I did it I had the hope that I would stop pursuing you," she took in a deep breath.

"Yes, I have always found ways to get you in bed with me but never planned to get pregnant, I got closer to Mattie so I would be closer to you," she took in a deep breath.

"I wanted you so badly that I made myself look so stupid in front of you, I was never valued in your eyes because you felt I am a whore,"

"I am sorry about that," he apologized, disappointed at his action.

"Miles you don’t have to apologize, I have always been stupid to make myself that open for you, and when I shut my eyes that night, I planned to stop."

She placed her hands on the bed clenching the duvet real tight as her heart stung from the pain.

"Let’s just be friends and I promise not to cross my limit anymore," Miles could only stare at her speckles.

He had always seen her as a cunny freak, he never gave her chances to talk, always acting cold to her.

He never thought he would feel this bad hearing her repeat the same action that was done by him.

"Fine," he affirmed and she glanced at him.

She expected it, but a little Winny tiny hope wanted him to fight for her. Who was she kidding? He doesn’t like her to talk more to love her.

Maybe he is destined to be with Astrid, she thought sadly. "I wouldn’t allow myself to be envious and would give them all my blessing," she whispered to herself.

"I am just your friend now Maren," she cast a weird look at him, he had never once thought of her as a human talk more than a friend.

"Miles?" She called, still in a state of daze, "Are you sure you are okay?"

"Well, yeah I am beginning to see how stupid I am, if friendship is what you can offer for now then, so be it but I am staying here with you until you get better," Maren stared at him still in shock.

"Wow, I am left speechless.." she let out and he smiled, he moved closer and sat beside her.

Maren tried to push Miles away, but he grasped both her hands, his touch sending shivers down her spine.

She can’t help but blame herself even though she wants to stay away from him her heart is yearning more from him.

"Wait," Miles whispered, his eyes locking onto hers. Maren’s resistance melted under his gentle gaze.

"You have used this up," Miles said softly, gesturing to the IV drip. "I need to remove it."

Maren’s eyes never left his as he carefully detached the tube.

His hands cradled hers, his thumbs tracing gentle circles on her skin.

Just then, the door swung open and Julian came in. Maren’s cheeks flushed as she extracted her hands from Miles.

"Oh, sorry I wasn’t expecting that." He let out turning his back

"You can come in," Maren let out and Julian smirked, he strutted toward them.

"It’s nice to see you are doing fine," he let out his eyes looking around, having a knowing smirk.

"I’m fine, thanks," she replied, her face still flushed.

Miles stepped back, his eyes still holding Maren’s. Julian’s gaze shifted between them, sensing the unspoken tension.

"I will leave you two alone," Julian said.

"Julian Logan, coming here to check up on me, oh please you came for Astrid instead," He flickered his eyes stunned for a while, and then nodded his head.

"I am not that heartless, but why isn’t she here?" he asked.

Miles recalled how she had cried because she couldn’t have him but decided not to say a word.

"Guess she needs to dress up for office,"

"Oh, she can just stay here with you today, since..." he stopped midway, seeing the look Maren gave him.

"Hey, I was only caring about you, didn’t make me regret that," she stuck out her tongue at Julian he just rolled his eyes

"Miles," he called.

"You can take care of her, I will find my way out," he let out walking out of the room.

Maren could only shake his head, the only person he is worried about in this world is Mattie, even though Maren is beginning to notice how he cares for Astrid she can’t be so sure about it.

Julian walked out of the room going to knock on Astrid’s room door when his phone rang.

He checked the caller ID to see it was Rowan, and his mood turned sour. He doesn’t have to worry about his friend anymore but not Rowan.

He picked up, placing the phone on his ear without saying a word, "Good morning," Rowan let out but Julian didn’t respond.

"Well, I am not the caller but Astrid’s Mum,"
