Chapter 120: BECKY’s FEAR

Chapter 120: BECKY’s FEAR

"Hello," Becky called repeatedly but Julaim already hung up, she dialed his contact again but there was no response.

"Ma’am... are you alright?" the chief head maid asked and Becky shook her head, still looking worried about her hands trembling.

"She is alive," she whispered, "My bestie is alive, she isn’t dead," she murmured under her breath.

Then she glanced at the maid who also now held a worried gaze, she grabbed her hands having a small smile played on her face.

"Where is Desmond?" she asked and she pointed to the office in the living room.

She sprinted there immediately and without knocking, she burst inside, only to meet him with one of his important clients.

They had planned to go out until there was a sudden meeting.

"Love, what are you doing?" He asked and she swallowed, giving an apologetic look.

"Sorry for disrupting your meeting, I can wait outside for you," Becky let out immediately and walked out not minding her husband’s calling her back.

"What about you coming tomorrow? We can proceed with the meeting," Desmond suggested.

He could see his wife was so worked up, and couldn’t proceed with the meeting anymore.

"But.." His assistant was about to say but was interrupted by Desmond.

"Are you going to do what I asked you to do or you are going to nag me about me postponing a meeting that is more important to me than you?" he growled.

His assistant already understood that his boss was getting furious so he had no choice but to do what he wanted.

"I am sorry Chairman," he dashed out of the office immediately.

Desmond finds his way to his wife who was in their room pissing around, biting at a finger.

"Love, what is the problem? Why are you looking worried?" he asked.

"Remember my best friend, who I told you I couldn’t reach for a long time?" She let out and he nodded.

Becky paced around the room, her hands moving around her neck as if something was choking her.

"I don’t think it’s true, I don’t even know what to believe," Becky said, her voice laced with frustration. "Julian didn’t mention the last name, but only Elizabeth calls me Allen aside from you."

Desmond’s brow furrowed in confusion.

"Love, I think you should relax and explain exactly what you mean," Desmond said, attempting to calm Becky.

Becky stopped pacing and faced Desmond.

"Julian suddenly called me," Becky explained, her words tumbling out.

"He asked me about who the hell Elizabeth is. I was confused, but he said she called my name, "Allen."

Desmond’s expression changed from confusion to concern.

"Hey, relax, let’s sort things out," Desmond said, stepping closer to Becky.

"How is she getting you worried? You said you were mad at her and wouldn’t converse with her anymore."

Becky’s voice cracked. "Yes, I did, but...," Becky’s voice trailed off as tears began to trickle down her face. "She is Astrid’s mom."

Desmond’s eyes widened in shock.

"What?" Desmond asked, stunned. Becky nodded vigorously.

"Yes, Julian told me that Elizabeth is Astrid’s mom," Becky repeated.

Desmond’s face reflected his incredulity.

"Elizabeth, as in Tonia’s sister?" Desmond asked again, seeking clarification.

Becky nodded, her eyes welling up with tears.

Desmond’s gaze drifted away, processing the information.

Becky pulled Desmond’s shirt, her voice urgent.

"What if it’s true? We can’t trust Josh, we see the way he acts around Astrid. We..." Becky’s voice faltered.

Overwhelmed, Becky fell to the ground, her heart thumping hard. Desmond rushed to her side, cradling her in his arms.

"Becky, breathe," Desmond soothed, holding her close.

As Becky’s sobs subsided, Desmond helped her to her feet.

"We’ll figure this out together," Desmond reassured her. "We’ll get to the bottom of this."

"What if something had happened with Elizabeth that made her not call me anymore," Desmond squatted to her level.

"We can’t believe all that," Desmond said, "There’s something we don’t know. You don’t have to think too much."

"Desmond," Becky whispered, her voice shaking.

"We are not sure she’s Astrid’s mother. Let’s just not get worried," Desmond continued.

Becky nodded, still visibly upset. Desmond guided her back to her seat.

"Love, why don’t we call Astrid to ask about her mom?" Desmond suggested.

Becky’s expression changed. "What if Elizabeth doesn’t want to be found? She left without saying a word. You think she wants us meddling?" Becky’s face contorted in anguish.

"No!" she screamed, overcome with grief. "I want to know why she didn’t allow me to know her secret. I want to know why she called me her best friend but never told me anything and just left for years."

"It’s more than 20 years, Desmond!" she screamed, tears streaming down her face.

Despite Elizabeth’s departure without a word, Becky held onto hope that they would reunite. She wasn’t going to let the opportunity go.

Becky picked up her phone and dialed Astrid’s number, grateful she had forced Julian to share it with her.

After five rings, Astrid answered with a cheerful smile in her voice.

"Hello, Ma’am." Becky chose not to correct Astrid’s formal tone for now.

"Hello, dear. How are you doing?" Becky asked, trying to sound calm. Astrid’s response was hesitant.

"I... I’m fine, thank you, Ma’am." Becky sensed Astrid’s unease.

"Is everything okay, dear?" Becky pressed. And Astrid responded with a yes.

"I called because I wanted to ask you some questions. Hope I am not disturbing you in any way?" Becky asked.

"Of course not ma’am,"

"Please your mum, what is her name?" Becky went straight to the point.

Astrid was confused at the way she suddenly asked that question, "Erm... my mum’s name is Elizabeth, is there any problem?"

"Your mum’s last name.."

"Sorry ma’am, why the sudden question? Do you know my mum?" she asked all at once and Becky smiled.

"I.... I am sorry for the questions. I just wanted to know more about her," She snorted at this and nodded.

"Elizabeth Gilbert," she answered and Becky stood stupefied at this,

"So you are saying the woman staying with your father isn’t your real mum?" she asked and Astrid didn’t say a word.

"Mum is actually in the hospital she is suffering from cancer but she is doing well now,"

"What? Can... cancer?" Becky’s tone cracked and Astrid was confused as to why this lady was interested in her mum.

"Yes ma’am,"

"Which hospital?" Becky asked again and Astrid paused, "Ma’am I know I wronged you by getting married to your son wrongfully but can you please tell me what my mum had done to deserve you looking for her."

"Your... mum.... was my best friend, Astrid, I have been looking for her for years, I am surprised to see she is living in the country and never reached out to me,"

Astrid stood dumbstruck at the same Maren walked in looking pale. "What?"

"I need to see her please, so tell me what hospital she is in?"
