Chapter 112: AWAKE

Astrid’s tears flowed uncontrollably as she embraced her mother. "Mum... I missed you so much," she sobbed.

Elizabeth’s weak voice filled Astrid’s heart with joy. "I... missed you too, sweetie." she struggled to say, already gasping for air.

"B... but I fe... feel you would send me back if you don’t let me go," she added.

Astrid released her mother instantly, and Miles quickly handed her a bottle of water. "Thanks," Astrid said.

As she helped her mother drink, Astrid’s thoughts swirled. Her mother had been in a coma for months now because of her dad. Seeing her speaking again made her so delighted.

Just then, Dr. Lee and some other doctors entered the room, Miles had pressed the button to notify the doctors.

"Mrs. Logan, I will need you to step aside so we can examine her."

Astrid hesitated, reluctant to leave her mother’s side. But Dr. Lee’s gentle smile reassured her.

While Elizabeth’s curious gaze met Astrid’s. "Logan?" she whispered.

Astrid’s cheeks flushed. She knew her mother had questions but she can’t give her answers now.

Miles gently pulled Astrid backward, giving Dr. Lee space to examine Elizabeth.

This made Julian clench his fists, but he restrained himself. Now wasn’t the time to make himself look bad in front of Astrid’s mum.

Dr. Lee began with his examination while other doctors inspected, checking Elizabeth’s vital signs and monitoring equipment.

"You’re doing remarkably well, considering all the stress and also your comatose stage."

Astrid hovered anxiously in the corner, her eyes fixed on her mother, as Miles tried to calm her.

Dr. Lee continued, "The surgeries were successful, and your body is responding well to treatment."

Elizabeth’s voice was barely above a whisper. "What about cancer...?"

Dr. Lee’s expression turned serious. "We’ve made significant progress, but we need to run some tests to confirm the cancer cells are completely gone."

Astrid stepped forward, her eyes locked on Dr. Lee. "What does that mean?"

Dr. Lee’s gaze softened. "It means we’ve got rid of the visible tumors, but we need to ensure no microscopic cells remain. We’ll schedule a PET scan and biopsy to confirm."

Elizabeth’s hand trembled as she reached for Astrid’s. "I am going to be okay, my sweet girl."

Astrid’s eyes welled up with tears. "You are, Mom. You’re going to be just fine."

Dr. Lee nodded. "We will monitor your progress closely. For now, focus on recovery and rehabilitation." he advised.

"We are done with that, I will advise her to take soft goods for now and vegetables advisable the most," Astrid thanked him and he showed courtesy leaving.

As Dr. Lee exited, Astrid sat beside her mother, holding her hand.

Elizabeth’s voice whispered. "I am so proud of you, Astrid. You’ve grown strong."

Astrid’s tears flowed freely. "Thanks mum, I love you, so much Mom."

Elizabeth smiled weakly. "I love you too, sweetie."

Just then her eyes met with the two men still standing behind her daughter.

She might be weak, but seeing two unknown men who seem to have the aura of powerful men made her worried.

"Astrid, who are they?" she finally asked and Astrid legged her.

"This is Miles Adams, my friend... and... Julian Logan my husband," Elizabeth froze at the mention of husband.

Not only did she get worried about the Logan but also the Adam, "Hu... husband? What did the monster do?" Elizabeth asked, referring to Josh.

"Mum.." Astrid whispers trying to warn her but she doesn’t listen.

"Did he marry you off and threaten you with me?"

"Mum.." she called, not wanting her to spill out the whole truth in front of them, but Elizabeth was still weak.

"That bastard! I told you to stop tolerating them," her breathing was becoming hard and this was scaring Astrid.

"Mum, it’s not the way you should calm, there is nothing wrong, I am fine." Astrid kept saying soothing words.

While Miles and Julian are left in a state of shock, hearing what her mum had just said.

"It’s a long story but I promise I wasn’t sold to him," Astrid let out comforting her.

"Really? You got married to him because you love him?" Astrid didn’t know the response to give.

"Astrid... are you lying to me?"

"Mum, yes I love him. I got married because I love him so please can you calm down," Astrid knew she was lying to his mum, but she couldn’t bear to see her mum sad.

She had just gotten her mum back. She can’t lose her mum again, she loves her mum so much.

"Really?" she asked calming a bit now as she exchanged glances with Julian expecting more words from him.

Astrid nodded his head gently as the reason why she has tricked her mum.

"You... you... did he truck you? This is... the Logan son?" Elezabthe asked in surprise.

"Mum... you need rest, you don’t need to get worried, I promise I am doing okay and you get to have your surgery."

Elizabeth’s eyes locked onto Astrid’s, filled with love and concern. Despite their months apart, her mother’s intuition told her Astrid was unhappy. It’s clear in her eyes so well

"Alright, darling, I will get well soon, and we will be together again," Elizabeth reassured, her voice weak but determined.

Julian stepped forward, his expression softening. "Thank goodness you’re fine now, ma’am. I hope you recover quickly."

Elizabeth’s gaze shifted to Julian, a hint of gratitude in her eyes. "Thanks for taking care of my daughter. At least I can die in peace, knowing she’s in safe hands."

Astrid’s face contorted in distress "Mum, don’t say that! You’re going to get better, and we’ll share lively moments together."

Elizabeth smiled, her eyes welling up with tears. "You’re the only one who cares so much about me in this world. You can’t leave me again." Astrid clutched her mother tightly, tears streaming down her face as she pleaded.

Elizabeth’s gaze drifted to Miles, her voice barely above a whisper. "Fine, I promise... I will make sure to put you in safe hands before leaving."

Astrid’s cry echoed through the room. "Mum!"

Elizabeth’s weak hand rose, calming Astrid. "I won’t say that again, my sweet girl."

Just then, the door swung open, and Mattie stood in the doorway, her face twisted in rage.

"Mattie!" the group exclaimed in unison, shocked by her sudden appearance.

Mattie’s eyes blazed with fury. "You sly whore! I was just told about everything. I won’t let you have my man!" She stormed toward Astrid.
