Chapter 104: TELLING HIM THE TRUTH

Chapter 104: TELLING HIM THE TRUTH

Maren lay in the hospital bed, her face pale and drawn. The doctor, a kind-eyed woman, stood beside her.

"Can you tell me who your guardian is, Maren?" the doctor asked gently.

Maren’s voice was barely above a whisper. "Astr... Astrid is my guardian."

The doctor nodded and turned to Astrid, who stood anxiously beside the bed.

"We need to discuss Maren’s situation," The doctor explained. "The drug she took was harmful to both her and the fetus. We’re lucky she came in when she did."

Astrid’s eyes widened in alarm. "What do you mean?"

"The fetus is approximately one month old," the doctor continued. "Maren should have sought medical attention immediately. The drug has caused placental abruption, and the fetus is no longer conceivable."

Maren’s eyes filled with tears as the doctor’s words sunk in.

"We need to perform a dilation and curettage (D&C) to remove the fetus and prevent further complications," the doctor explained.

Astrid felt a surge of concern. "Maren, maybe we should tell Miles?"

Maren’s voice was laced with pain. "No, Astrid...please don’t. He can’t know."

The doctor’s expression was sympathetic. "I understand this is difficult, but we need your consent for the procedure."

Maren’s hand trembled as she signed the consent form.

As the doctor left to prepare for the procedure, Astrid took Maren’s hand.

"I am so sorry, Maren. I’m here for you."

Maren’s eyes locked onto Astrid’s, filled with desperation.

"Promise me, Astrid...promise me you won’t tell Miles."

Astrid’s voice was barely above a whisper. "I promise, Maren. Your secret is safe with me."

Tears streamed down Maren’s face as the reality of her situation sunk in.

If only she could beat this child but it couldn’t go as he wanted, she watched Astrid walk out looking as anxious as ever.

She shut her eyes as she waited for the procedure to begin.

"Miles," she whispered, all the memories she had with him flashed through her mind.

How she had been pursuing him for years, his words still hurting her till now.

"Guess this is where my love ends for you," she said again as she shut her eyes in pain.

Astrid on the other hand has to and fro in fear, hoping everything goes well she doesn’t know how she could keep this Maren is going through a lot of pain.

She could hear the pain from outside here, she clamped her hands together as she prayed.

Just when one of the doctors came forward and touched her, she looked up to see the doctor in charge of her mum.

"Mrs. Logan, I have been expecting your visit." he let out... "Your mum’s surgery went well,"

"Really!" she screamed and he bobbed his head with a small smile she screamed a bit drawing the attention of passers and among them were Julian and Miles.

She got overly excited and embraced him happily, "Thank you so much," she muttered.

"That isn’t my wife embracing another man is she?" Julian asked his buddy and was also left surprised.

"She looks so happy," Miles let out in wonder what could prompt her to be so happy.

Julian moved forward to them, anger brewing in her, "Hey dude!" Miles called seeing the way his friend stormed toward the couple.

The picture of the guy kissing her flashed through Julian’s mind, "Julian! Control yourself!"

Only then did Astrid catch a glance of him and she let go of the doctor.

"Oh my goodness!" she whispered, as the doctor turned back, a punch landed on his jaw.

"Fucking hell!" the doctor groaned as he turned to the culprit ready to lash out. He saw who he was and he mellowed.

"Mr Logan," he called, already understanding the reason behind the punch.

"Why in fuvking hell are you embracing my wife!" he growled ready to attack and Miles was quick to stop him this time.

"Let me go," he grumbled again, and only this time did Astrid slap him so hard.

The doctor’s eyes widened and he shifted back in shock, only this slap controlled him.

"What the fuck is wrong with you Julian!" Julian scoffed in shock.

"Are you asking me that question?" he asked in surprise, "Yes I am, why would you budge into this place just punching out anyone you see without even a vivid explanation,"

"I just saw you and you expect me to wait for a vivid explanation?"

"Yeah, besides why does this disturb you?" Miles sighed and pulled Julian with him.

"Let me do this year man, Astrid. I think it’s time to go home. You both need to talk."

" doesn’t control me. He has no right to tell me where and when it should be you should leave when I am done I’ll come home,"

"Astrid," Miles calls out calmly, he could tell seeing her with the doctor has also made some kind of feeling rise in him.

He calmly pats her shoulder, "He is just a doctor at this hospital, you don’t want him, losing everything that makes sense for him, do you?

"What?"

"I am as furious as your husband but I am not going to lose it right now, so as not to make the both of us losers, so come along right now."

Astrid slapped his hands off, "I am not going and there is nothing anyone can do about it okay?"

"Fucking hell! Astrid!" Julian yelled and this made her shocked, "Get me the fucking Chairman!" Julian yelled and Miles’ eyes locked with that of Astrid.

Astrid rushed toward Julian, her face etched with concern. "What are you thinking, causing a scene!" she exclaimed, trying to caution him. But it was too late.

The doctors and hospital staff were already scattering, sensing the impending storm. Chairman Thompson approached Julian, bowing slightly. "Mr. Logan, what brings you here?"

Julian’s smirk was laced with disdain. "Him," he said, pointing at Dr. Lee.

"Fire that asshole. I don’t want to see him anywhere near this hospital again."

Astrid’s eyes widened in shock as Dr. Lee fell to his knees, pleading. "Mr. Logan, I promise it’s not that way! We don’t have anything together... we..."

"Shut the fuck up!" Julian growled.

"We have nothing together!" Astrid yelled, making him keep shut. Julian’s puzzled expression deepened as his shock was evident on his face.

"He’s the doctor in charge of my mother’s treatment," she said, her voice dripping with irritation. "He told me about her successful surgery."

Miles’s voice cut through the chaos. "Mother?"

Astrid shut her eyes in frustration she didn’t want him to know but she had no choice but to keep Maren’s secret safe.

"Yes, I never wanted you to know," She said truthfully. "I just wanted the best doctor, and he’s the one I could work with."

Julian’s face contorted in shock. "Oh my goodness, Astrid, we..."

Astrid’s hand shot up, silencing him.

"You know what I hate most is scenes like this," Astrid spat, her voice venomous. "And still, you caused it."

"Enjoy your stupid power, used to oppress others," she yelled, turning to Dr. Lee. "Let’s go."

The doctor scrambled to his feet, glancing up at Julian with fear.

"Let’s leave now," Astrid said, her voice firm. "He won’t dare fire you," she announced boring holes into Julian.

She stormed past Julian, and he reached out to grab her arm.

"Astrid, wait!" But she shook him off and left.
