Chapter 75: Summer Trouble Has Just Begun

The hot sun blazing through the sky.

The still leaves of the trees that are basking under the sunlight.

The scorching hot weather that even the coldest ice will melt in a few seconds.

That is how it is currently happening around the farm of Elaina. Summer has finally arrived. With most of the work from yesterday finally done for the preparation of summer, a new work is just waiting to be done.

Elaina woke up much earlier than she should have. Perhaps because of the heat that suddenly swept through in the early morning. She was sweating bullets and she couldn’t properly drift back to sleep so she had no choice but to just remain awake for the remainder of the day.

Elaina also prepared her new work clothes to adapt properly to the summer heat. A tank top that men usually wear is her current shirt as having her usual work clothes would just invoke more heat that would cause heat stroke for her if she wears it for lengthy periods while currently working under the sun. As for her pants, she used her baggy jumper pants to protect her legs from the grass and heat, as well as some bugs that might bite her. It might look ridiculous for her fit, but it doesn’t sacrifice her movement and it functions just fine.

She doesn’t wear a hat during spring but now, she has to wear one as the weather is much more hotter than it should be. Using her straw hat that her grandfather gifted to her back then, she is now using it as her primary hat for summer. Based on the weather forecasts on the almanac, a rainy day would take some time before it will occur so any protection from the heat while also remaining comfy and breathable is something she needed.

"Wow, this weather is sweltering. It’s much hotter than the summer days back in the Luminiera Kingdom," Elaina muttered to herself as she wiped off the sweat that was already trickling down her forehead.

She looked behind her and Julia and Princess Margaux were lying on the sofas, looking like they were about to melt from the heat.

"Seems like Darcero Kingdom’s weather is much different than the other places. This heat is brutal."

It’s just the first day of summer and yet the heat is very bad. Elaina shook her head and decided to steel herself further. After all, she has endured hotter places much hotter than the current weather before for lengthy periods and it is somewhat a big question as to how she survived everything.

Before she tended to the fields, she first checked her Hencluckles. During this time, the Hencluckles are getting more and more similar to chickens. She keeps the food supply of them and keeps them healthy as well. With summer already here, the Hencluckles will also need more water as well. The Goddess of Taming is not issuing any taming job for now since she thinks that Elaina needs to give birth first before she should undergo the next quests.

After making sure all of the Hencluckles were doing great, Elaina went back to the field. Although Elaina wanted to just stay indoors and perhaps submerge herself in the water to cool herself, there was no way she could do that with all the work piled up. Work will not finish themselves at this point.

As she was about to start the work, the Feys were also ready to do more work that day as well. Elaina learned their names yesterday and they also got reflected to the Almanac as well. The father is named Bam, the Mother is Poe, and their kids are Joe and Ram.

"Boss, what is our work for the day?" Bam asked as if he was waiting all day to do more work for Elaina.

"You guys are still hard at work even in this sweltering weather? You guys don’t feel the need to rest and cool off?" Elaina asked.

"We can protect ourselves well with magic to passively cool our bodies while working in the heat. It’s a neat thing for us Feys."

"Well, that is convenient. Do you guys know how to till the fields? We will need a few plots of land that we can use to plant our crops."

"Yes, Master. We are good at that with my kids. If you want us to till the land, then tell us where and how far we need to till."

Elaina nodded and instructed them to till the available land that had been previously used as a plot for the strawberries. They needed to till the soil again so that the soil below would be properly mixed with the one on the surface. This way, crops don’t lose nutrients and slow down in their growth.

Elaina started to also clean up the weeds growing in other areas as well. After all, she will be planting lots of summer crops that she will be selling once they grow. She is excited about the prospects of her farm’s growth this time around as more varieties of crops give more yield than usual during summer compared to spring. If talking about spring, spring would be the season for flowers. But she has no experience in growing flowers so she has to skip that.

Using her sickle, she clears out the tall grass. Due to the sickle being rusty, it is not that effective in cutting the grass. But it is better than nothing at all. But Elaina does mentally take notes on it to ensure she will be upgrading it in the future. As of now? Not yet.

Around a few minutes later, the field Elaina asked the Feys to till had been properly tilled. Not only that but it looks much better than how she tills it. She appreciates that the Feys are doing quite a good job at it.

"Can you all please gather these weeds over there? We will dry them out later on."

"Dry them out? Shouldn’t they be thrown away?" Ram curiously asked.

"Haha, yeah, typically, they should be thrown away. But I have a good way to use them to not waste them."

With the command of Elaina, the Feys gather the weeds and lay them over to the open area where the sun is shining bright to dry them. With the intensity of the heat, she will be getting the result this afternoon.

Elaina then gazed at the tilled areas and nodded. Seeing that the soil is now ready for action, Elaina grabs the seeds that she keeps with her to use for this season. Sowing these seeds will allow her to gain new crops to harvest in the future and more ingredients that they can use for cooking later as well.

"Alrighty, time to let these crops grow big and delicious!"

While Elaina is happy doing her little job, Troy grits his teeth after he learns of the news.

"F*ck. And here I thought I was good at erasing investigation data for my sister. And yet, our parents just used another tactic I didn’t know to get more accurate information. I am such a fool for thinking I could easily deceive them."

He crumpled the report paper he got and grabbed his bag. He needed to tell Elaina the situation.

"Sis, I hope you are ready. It seems our parents are currently brewing some trouble," he muttered to himself before he steps into the teleporter and disappeared.
