Chapter 74: The Fey Works
Chapter 74: The Fey Works
A few days passed by after the Feys settled down on her farm. The Feys asked for a while that they would not begin working for a bit as there was a sudden event that they needed to deal with before they could start. They disappeared but they said that they would be back and assured Elaina that they would come back.
Although Elaina didn’t mind them not working right now, she also wondered what caused them to do that so she checked the Almanac. Since the Almanac has placed information on their needs, Elaina checked on them and just like what they said, it seems that they have some problem and it involves the other Feys. It didn’t give any detailed info but since the only words put on their needs are "Solving the Fey’s Problem", it seems that something must be really necessary for them to do as all of them went ahead and disappeared.
After that, a few days passed by. They didn’t come back for quite a while. During that short period that passed by, Elaina’s nose became more sensitive than usual. Before, she was fine with the smell of the strong odor of vegetables and spices, but it didn’t take that long for the symptoms to grow. Her morning sickness does lessen in intensity but the sensitivity on her nose starts to get worse as she starts to request Julia to stop giving her any food that contains strong odors and certain ingredients like garlic and sometimes onion.
Thankfully, she did not need to handle the kitchen for quite some time as she felt like she would hurl every time. But she is also sad that her chance to fulfill the mission for the cooking page will be delayed due to this. Princess Margaux finally learned as well that Elaina is pregnant. After learning about this, she felt the need to help Elaina around and let her rest as she felt the duty to keep Elaina stress-free and fatigue-free. Of course, she is still taking Zaza as her priority but she does the work sometimes Elaina couldn’t help but sigh as she didn’t want Princess Margaux’s sister and brother to think that she is using Princess Margaux as some worker.
A few more days passed and before the season changed, Elaina’s pregnancy finally entered its second month. And as that arrived, the Feys also returned.
The day the final harvest day for the spring crops arrived. As Elaina has finally finished her preparations and her enduring her latest morning sickness event, she didn’t grab her tools this time around. Instead, she grabbed the basket that she asked Julia to buy in the market in preparation for the upcoming harvest day.
Even Julia and Princess Margaux are also ready to join in for the harvest. With the sun shining bright in the sky, Elaina’s eyes fall into the wide field of hers filled with strawberries. Sadly, she has to let go of the strawberries this time because it is not going to even grow in the summer. With how strict farming is, she can’t always rely on normal crops every season. She has to make a habit of changing crops per season.
"Sis, we are ready!" Julia went outside dressed up properly for the harvesting job.
"Me too!" Princess Margaux nodded as she gained the older clothes of Julia to help with the harvesting process. She is excited about the harvesting process as Elaina allows her to eat her fill of strawberries.
"But Sis, these strawberries we have are too many. Do you think we can finish harvesting them all at once?" Julia asked.
"I honestly have no idea as well since these plants have grown so much more than usual. I don’t have any idea whether we can harvest them all in one go."
As they are discussing whether they can harvest everything, a voice can be heard that answers their question.
"We can solve that problem! With our help, we will be able to harvest them all in no time!"
Elaina immediately remembered the voice and looked down to see the Fey family in their work clothes.
"Oh, you guys have returned! And here I thought you guys won’t be coming back?" Elaina smiled as she engaged in a talk with them.
"The problem we have to deal with took some time to deal with but thankfully, we didn’t have to deal with it for too long. Anyways, we are now here to officially begin our duty!" the male Fey proudly declared.
"WHOAH! I heard of you guys from Miss Julia before but this is the first time I am seeing you a lot! Is it true that you guys are indeed Feys?" Princess Margaux asked.
"Yes, indeed. We are the ones called the Feys by the humans and other beings. We help farms prosper with the exchange of goods and vegetables as repayment for our job."
"I heard Feys cannot be seen normally by humans and even those sensitive to the spirits can’t even detect you, I may be gifted in some druid powers but that does not mean I am very capable of detecting spirits. How come I can see you properly?" Princess Margaux asked.
When Princess Margaux asked the question, Elaina’s mind immediately thought it weird as well. The Almanac itself said that normal humans can’t see the Fey in action and yet, she sees them like normal. She has no magic abilities like Julia and Princess Margaux and yet, she can see the Feys without the need for an extra layer of powers.
"Ah, that must be due to the influence of the Harvest Goddess here on this farm. Because she is living nearby, he ability seeps through this place. Her power is strong enough to materialize us Feys that can be detected by normal humans properly. With her presence alone, it must be the main reason why you lot can see us without any problem."
"Is that how it works?" Elaina is not sure about it. After all, magic and other things related to it are something that Elaina is quite foreign to.
"Yeah, Sis. If some kind of stronger power resides in an area and stays there for long, their influence will soon affect their surroundings as well which in turn affects the others as well. That must be the main explanation here as well."
Elaina had some understanding now about this. She also linked it to the main reason why so few farmers wanted to buy the land here even though the place is big and cheap. It’s not due to the dungeon, but because of the spirits that occasionally appear here. Take the Rain Watcher for example. Any person who is not familiar with them would freak out seeing them.
"Well, enough of this talk, we should begin! With the number of plants we should harvest today, we will lose valuable time if we just stand here and do nothing!"
The Fey family started to spread themselves out as they carried the basket to the field, eager to begin their work.
"Haha, well, it seems we have more helpers then. Let’s get going. We will have a toast later once we are done with work so let’s get this party started!" Elaina encourages everyone.
The group cheered as they began their harvesting. Little did Elaina know, it seemed that her peaceful farming life would soon be centered on a conflict revolving around her parents. This will be one of the main hurdles that Elaina has to go through before she can attain her peaceful summer.
