Chapter 351: Medicine for the Mermaid

Chapter 351: Medicine for the Mermaid

As a reincarnator, Adelaide has a lot of memory related to her past life. It was all so vivid that even those memories she is quite sure to be a blur back when she is still alive can be recalled by her so clearly nowadays that it felt like even though it was her previous memories, her body seems to recognize those memories as not her own and she can only "view" them like some sort of recordings.

But Adelaide is fine with that. Her past life is already a relic of the past that she can access freely just because she was once the main owner of those memories. Using this, Adelaide recalled a few memories related to the thing that she promised her mother of. The medicine that would help a mermaid live like a regular human and be able to return to their regular form as a mermaid anytime they wanted.

She was lucky enough to learn the recipe on this one back in her past life and yet she never found any real use of it on that life. Of course, she wouldn’t expect that she will instead be only able to benefit from it once she is dead and reborn again in a new body.

Now for the recipe itself, it wasn’t a complicated recipe but the ingredients are somewhat similar to a list of ingredients to create a regular fish stew with the vegetable replacements as herbs.

"I am not sure what to say about this, Ade. I am not saying I doubt you on this list...but isn’t this just fish stew with herbs instead of vegetables?" Elaina couldn’t help but point it out.

"Funny enough, I also have that reaction as you, but not really, Mother. It does sound like a fish stew because it was modified to be easy to eat for the mermaids. Thanks to how it has been simplified to this, it is easy for the mermaids to make and easy to cook by themselves. But if the stew is something you seemed to be not on your liking, I also have the method where one can create it as a medicine ball but compared to the fish stew, I heard this one is so compact together that the supposed flavor it should have if it was a stew was simply gone which resulted in its bitter taste."

Elaina nodded in response hearing this. "Then tell me the two recipes and we can let the mermaid choose whatever she wanted."

"Both ingredients should work, Mom. The only difference is that we don’t put actively make the bitter one as a soup but something that we will be able to shape into a ball once we are done cooking and would take grinding on the ingredients while they are still inside the pot."

Hearing this, Elaina nodded and mentally noted that. The herbs she mentioned are easy to gather as some of them are possible to be bought on the market and she is growing a few herself as ingredient spices. As for the fish, it seems any fish would work as long as they are being sliced into pieces and are mixed into the soup. It wasn’t too hard and Elaina can easily do this now as this also qualified as something as cooking and so, Elaina managed to create the two varieties just fine by following the instructions given by Adelaide to her. The moment she is done, she have shown the items to Adelaide for confirmation whether she made them right or not. And they are doing this as a secret and is something that not even the witch, Julia or even Princess Margaux is aware of.

"These medicine exactly came out good, Mother. I must say that I am quite impressed with how well you can do stuff like this, Mother. Are you sure you are not someone who has powers, Mother? I heard from Sister Julia that you don’t have the ability to use magic or even handle mana at all. And yet you do many work that defies my expectations and even works like this that requires precision seems very easy for you."

"That’s just how it is, Ade. I am not bragging about it but perhaps I am just that good."

Although Adelaide wanted to scowl and doubt her mother on this, her confidence alone made her words genuine and something that is true.

"By the way, I don’t want to test this to her just yet. She will be too shocked if her tail disappeared once she eats this dish and its best to stop her from panicking at all which is why I cooked a regular fish meal to entice her. As for this fish stew we have now, I will be able to convert it to regular medicine version so its not going to be that hard. You said the pill version can be stored for a long time, which is why we will just keep these pills as reserve for now and wait until she is ready and is able to understand our words."

"Understandable, Mother. It would induce panic and several unknown possibilities if we just give the medicine to her as is and since the medicine’s effects takes at least 3 whole days before the effect disappears, if she didn’t understand why her fins became legs in just a few seconds would induce fear on her well being. We don’t want that," Adelaide agreed.

"Good to know. Now, let’s meet the mermaid. By now she should be hungry enough that she will be eating a lot. She will need some food."

"Oh yeah, Mom. Why are you calling me Ade now instead of my full name? I mean, I don’t mind being called that but suddenly you calling me as Ade, it kinda weirded me out at first," Adelaide asked.

"So you are curious? Well, the answer is simple to that. I would eventually call you "Ade" once you have grown older, maybe around 6 years old as your nickname. I would also be calling Arthur as "Art" once he grows into that stage as well so that you two would get used to your names being called. And once you two were familiar with your names, calling you with nicknames would be distinguishable now. However, since you got a more matured memory than your brother, you can say I moved everything that was supposed only to occur in the future forward for you and now I call you Ade just fine."

Adelaide nodded. She does honestly like that she was already given a nickname, meaning Elaina is already accepting her matured memories and has already given her the liberty to be treated like an adult while still retaining the temporary "baby license" she still have.

Now that the medicine is good to go, Adelaide and Elaina carried the medicine to the backyard where Arthur continues to attempt making conversations with the mermaid even though they couldn’t understand one another.

"I see now. Since Arthur can understand her words, he is trying to talk to her and because the same cannot be said to the mermaid, the communication is one way and only one can understand while the other remained to be incapable of understanding any of our words."

As the two approached, the mermaid once again slink back and got frightened once more, especially since Elaina is with Adelaide now.

"Right...I forgot that she is still very wary of me," Elaina said as she backs away.

"Mother, don’t leave. Let the mermaid understand that you didn’t mean any harm to her. Keep the bowl of food with you and personally hand it over. That way, she will slowly accept you."

"You know how to calm nervous mermaids, Ade?" Elaina asked.

"Nope. I am just using my regular knowledge on how to make someone slowly trust you if they are still wary of you. It will take time but since she will not be moving anytime soon. We can just keep on doing this until she understood that we are not bad people. I will also try my best to study her language as well so that we can communicate. Waiting for my brother to learn the ability to convey his words while only speaking his known language will take some time, so instead of waiting, might as well study it for the time being."

"Are you sure, Ade? Won’t that be hard?"

"Not really Mom. But I do require some pen and paper to help with the process of learning. I will try to decipher her words and use Arthur as a way to slowly piece together the meaning of what she is saying."

With their plan set, Elaina slowly approached the mermaid while holding the fried fish on her hands. And just like expected, it seems that her hunger has taken over that her eyes immediately locked in to the fish in Elaina’s hands. "I see that she is indeed hungry and would love to take a bite on the dish in her hands.
