A Single Mother's Farm of the Gods -
Chapter 346: Recruitment Day
Chapter 346: Recruitment Day
In a business that relies on the customers’ needs and the supply available, one should have good employees who are capable of handling themselves and various transactions that can either go well or go bad depending on the situation. Not only do they need an employee who is capable of handling themselves and quite independent once they know their job, but also someone flexible enough to help out those who need their help.
And that is why Elaina was currently looking for an employee she wanted to recruit. She didn’t need a pretty boy or girl to make face with the customer though that is a plus, but she needed a capable worker who can do the work and not just talk.
"I see, so that’s what happened during that time. No wonder many people started to complain in the adventurer’s guild trying to see the fault of your actions that made them get removed from their respective jobs. But isn’t firing half of your workforce quite a debilitating status for your business?" Troy asked after Elaina had gotten home that day.
"No. Considering that they are quite lazy and have not done a single work at all, what difference would it make for them to be there or not? If they can’t even do proper regular work while also receiving a salary that is equivalent to the person doing all the work, then might as well fire them instead of wasting money."
"What do you plan on from here? I know you wanted to focus on the farm but it’s not like you can just abandon the business after fixing it internally. Even if you ask me to try and manage it, I don’t think I can do it. You know that I don’t have a good idea of how to run a business properly like how you always do."
"Don’t worry, Brother. I already planned to make the company run while I was also busy with various tasks. I wanted the workplace to continue to function even if I am not directly managing it so I will be looking for capable employees tomorrow."
"Is that even possible?" For Troy who has no idea how to run businesses, this is something he wasn’t aware of.
"Just because you run a business doesn’t mean that your life will be devoted purely to it. A good business is a self-sufficient business that brings money while still doing the best it can be. Just how do you think I managed to run multiple businesses back in the Luminiera Kingdom by myself? My ex-husband is not that proficient in business and Selena is busy as a secretary to him which means all of the business management is handled by me alone."
A merchant group is a good business with good workers and trusted merchants at one’s disposal that requires minimal intervention unless you just like to keep on working on trading or if you have your own merchant boat that is being used for trading. A business that can bring big profits and benefits to the workers, merchant dealers, and even the consumers and buyers who deal with your product. Everything is a big win.
"Well, since you are already that dead set on what you are about to do, then it’s not for me to stop you. Anyways, do you already have the capital to give payroll to your employees?"
"Yes. After finishing yesterday’s work, we easily exceeded the money threshold that I was expecting thanks to the two capable workers I discovered. And thanks to that, I can afford to hire new employees to continue the business. The reputation might be minimal right now due to the last work that our parents did for the business but we shouldn’t forget that they also built this business from scratch. Running this business with that kind of business practice for years was already a recipe for disaster."
Tomorrow is a big day. It’s not much part of the farm’s rotation but if she manages to find capable workers tomorrow, everything will be set.

...
And so, the next day arrived and Elaina arrived at the recruitment venue which is the Adventurer’s Guild. Mei arranged the recruitment ad yesterday before they went home. Elaina has little trust that she will immediately find the necessary people that she will be able to have for the business but she is aware of it. After all, finding a good employee is hard to get when some of them have gone to the wrong departments. However, she does hope there are at least one or two employees who can be recruited.
While the two helpers, Randolph and Mei are helping set up the recruitment room, Elaina got the aspiring applicants form and is currently reviewing them when the God of Farming has finally spoken.
"[I have just been gone for a few days and you are already doing something that is not related to farming. Are you running a business?]" the God of Farming asked.
"Yes. But is it bad? Do I get restricted in doing farm work now?" Elaina asked.
"[Ah, no. You are free to do what you want to do. I am not forcing you to focus on farming. I am just quite surprised at you for doing multiple work aside from regular farm work. Even as a workaholic, I find your routine and jobs to be exhausting.]" the God of Farming explained.
Elaina chuckled. She also knew that what she had been doing these past few days was considered quite exhausting. But for someone like her, she somehow thrived on it. In fact, she feels more alive if she has something to do than doing nothing at all. She enjoys working and enjoys various things that have little girly value. Back when she was still an empress, she already got nicknamed "the workaholic empress" back then since instead of attending tea parties, balls, and parties from various nobles and making connections, Elaina chose the work route and as a result, she was seen as the only nobility that can be barely seen in parties. If one ever sees her present at a party, it is because she is either forced to do it, or there are some business opportunities she can take advantage of.
"[Still, I am even surprised that you didn’t have any previous transaction with the God of Business and Money. I know your work when you were still an empress and you handled quite a lot of business back then but are you sure you didn’t get any blessings from him?]"
"There was a god related to business and money?" Elaina wasn’t aware the whole time.
"[Yes. And based on your question alone, you seemed to have no idea at all. Well, it seems you just have to develop that capability yourself and you didn’t need a god to enhance that, I guess.]"
Then, the two employees returned, each carrying copies of the resumes of the applicants.
"God of Farming, I will talk to you later, I will focus on the recruitment for now," Elaina sent the message.
"[Alright. Just don’t push yourself too hard and be sure to choose a good employee. Don’t let their honeyed words mislead you to the good ones.]"
Elaina smiled. Even though he is not related to doing any kind of business, it seems that he has some knowledge at least.
"Boss, we are ready to receive the applicants," Mei sits beside Elaina on the left while Randolph sits on the right side.
"I have never experienced this kind of thing before. Will I do good?" Randolph wipes his sweat.
"Calm down. It’s alright. If you two wanted to find the best coworkers, you guys should judge them on their personality and their mannerisms. Ask questions here and there since you two are in this business longer while I will ask the critical questions related to their resumes. You guys will understand what I mean."
After saying that, Elaina pushed the magic button to call the applicants to the room. Mei is slightly nervous while Randolph is sweating bullets. But they will soon realize this is much easier than they thought.
"Are you capable of doing this work if in case the machine breaks?"
"What if one of your coworkers has started spreading rumors about you? What would you do?"
"Really? Do you think that kind of fake attitude is something that would land you the job? And what’s with this resume? Some of these are unrealistic to do and one of the work you put here only started to show up for a year and yet you already have 3 years of experience of it? Damn, what are you, the founder of this work?"
Mei’s words are brutal and straight to the point. She was too critical and quick to point out the inconsistencies that even before Elaina could point it out, Mei was already criticizing the applicant.
"Have you done this kind of work before? If so, how about some physical labor? After all, we will sometimes need those extra hands if necessary."
"You said here that you have been in construction and labor work for 3 years. I can see that you do look like one, but only to those who are not experts on how one would look if they were in that kind of work. Yours seems to be more on workout gains rather than gains you get from working. Tell the truth now. It’s fine even if you don’t have experience or are looking for one but please don’t lie on your resume."
Although Randolph rarely gets to do his talks due to how most of the applicants have already been filtered and shooed away by Mei, he is quite capable of spotting inconsistencies as well that Mei missed out on or has no prior idea of.
However, as a result, most of the applicants that have entered are mostly rejected. There are some who are going to be accepted but they are under minor roles that will support their coworkers or extra hands that will handle heavy labor like carrying crates and stuff. However, for regular work...there’s none.
Until the final applicant arrived.
