Chapter 347: Civilized Monster
Chapter 347: Civilized Monster
Demi-humans are nothing new in towns and cities alike. Elves, beastmen, and even some merfolk come to the land and occasionally mingle, make transactions with humans, and do many other things like enjoying the quality of life humans enjoy. There are still mixed reactions by some people regarding them, but the majority are pretty open and accepting of them as long as they are also respectful, kind, and civilized, then they will be seen with positivity as well.
However, there is a difference between demi-humans and civilized monsters. Civilized monsters are different types of demi-humans. Elves, beastmen, and merfolks all belong to the category of "humanlike", allowing them to be able to blend in with humans even though they have various parts of their bodies that simply don’t belong to humans. But Civilized Monsters are different.
Civilized Monsters, as the name implies, are monsters who became accustomed to human culture, and then they decided to break off from their regular tribal or monster activities and become civilized. If Demi-humans are "humanlike", then civilized monsters are "monsters who like to live like a human." There are various of them, but they are only around the areas that accept civilized monsters. The Darcero Kingdom is one of those kingdoms where Civilized Humans are allowed to roam and will not be ostracized and attacked by people.
Like humans and demi-humans, civilized monsters don’t just engage in regular things that would help with the quality of life, they will also go to work...and look for work.
Right now, that seems to be the main cause for the final applicant who entered the room, making the three surprised.
"A goblin?!" Mei was surprised.
"I thought I was seeing things on the last applicant’s resume...but it was really a goblin..." even Randolph was surprised.
Elaina immediately composed herself seeing the goblin remain composed even when the two beside her were not sure what to do next.
"Your name is Mr. Rakkuzansa. Are you perhaps a registered civilized monster?" Elaina asked.
"Yes. If you want confirmation, here, I already have my ID that proves I am a civilized monster."
Elaina accepted the ID and checked it out. She is familiar with civilized monster ID since she has seen a few civilized monsters who use it. For Elaina, she didn’t need to learn what it was to know what was fake or real. One good look and she can tell it is a genuine article. The mark of the Adventurers’ Guild just says it all.
"Thanks for showing us your ID, Mr. Rakkuzansa. Although it shouldn’t be surprising one would want to be recruited for a job, this is the first time to see one with quite a lot of qualifications for business and a goblin to add to that. Can you prove these are real accomplishments?" Elaina said.
"Yes. I am aware of that. Here. These are some of my diplomas and some of the documents regarding my temporary employment in various agencies and companies," the goblin immediately handed the papers to the three which seemed something he already expected would be required.
This time, Mei also calmed down and asked the goblin named Rakkuzansa. "You are applying as a business consultant and treasurer, meaning you want to handle the money? How confident are you to deal with a huge pool of money? Just so you know, being a treasurer doesn’t mean just counting money and tallying the changes of it."
"I know. You want to know if I am capable of giving judgment in giving funds to projects and business expenditures. If that is what you mean, then yes. I may not look like one, but I am adept at handling big money back in the banks that I have worked with. However, I am only a temporary intern there and the work is something I am not too satisfied so I am looking for work that would suit my skills more."
Elaina nodded at his answer. And just like what he said, goblins, in general, are capable money handlers. If during their time as monsters, they still gather gold like a regular resource and stockpile it, civilized goblins are capable of handling money affairs and making good decisions that would reduce the need to use money in excessive ways. In short, he might be a good choice for regulating funds. If he is that good at approving things related to gold, he is a must-hire.
While Mei and Randolph started throwing questions at him, Elaina started formulating one problem that would test the goblin whether he was capable of making decisions with money at stake.
It didn’t take long for the two to run out of questions to ask. Each question they asked, the goblin answered quickly. He is quite terrifying in that regard that even Mei who has a bit of knowledge in treasurer works is a bit overwhelmed with how fast he can give out his explanations which all are satisfactory. Mei and Randolph looked at Elaina who was smiling at the goblin.
"Your accomplishments and answers are all quite good and in my opinion, something to be praised, however, since you are saying you are that good at it, I have a problem just for you that I want to be answered. There are no right or wrong answers but depending on your answers, we might think twice about how you will be hired by us."
Elaina then handed the quickly drafted problem to Rakkuzansa. While Rakkuzansa was busy reading, Elaina made more copies and handed them to Mei and Randolph so that they at least knew what problem was currently plaguing the goblin.
Rakkuzansa looked at the problem and although what Elaina said is true about it is simple math, it doesn’t mean the right answer is always the right answer depending on the situation. If it was a regular problem that is from the school, then answering the statistical answer is the best one, but on this problem, it is clear that it emphasizes what should be prioritized in funds.
"A food supplier business just opened and is currently ready to do some transactions. The owner and his treasurer had a lot of needs to make the business run smoothly. Thankfully, they have a budget of 10,000 gold to start with, however, they soon realize that the money will be totally lacking and cannot even fulfill all of the necessities as a result. So the owner decided to cut off a few options for the time being and grow the money first before expanding it. However, there are only a few options that would be good to be invested in and they needed to have at least 2,000 gold left to ensure they have extra money for emergencies. What should the treasurer prioritize first?"
The options below are all the options that can be spent money to develop the business. The answer must at least adhere to the 2,000 gold remaining balance.
1. Transportation of goods: 3,000 gold
2. Initial Employee recruitment and salary: 2,000
3. Trusted Goods supplier: 5,000
4. Advertisements: 1,000
5. Cross-Kingdom trading: 3,000
6. Rare goods supplier: 4,000
7. Basic commodities supplier: 3,000
8. Security: 2,000
Elaina just randomly added a few math problem logic there to confuse the goblin, but it isn’t that necessary, to begin with. As for the choices, she also made those prices. In real-world prices, those would ramp out quite high. Still, Elaina just wanted to test the goblin on how well he reacted if he was faced with these choices?
"I have my answer now. Should I begin with the explanation?"
Elaina nodded and the goblin began his explanation of the little problem.
"The business cannot function without any goods to buy and sell which means a supplier is necessary. Three suppliers offer their goods but since the budget is low, only one supplier is possible right now. This means, that if they wanted to make the business make bank, they needed a supplier that could help them with the goods. But there are chances they will get in big trouble if they get scammed. In short, a trusted goods supplier is necessary. It might be the most expensive choice on the list, but one would be sure of the quality goods. If they end up getting ripped off, they will have trouble and will instead have net loss as a result. A trusted supplier is necessary."
"As for the next expenditure, advertisements are necessary. If one wants to compete with the regular market, advertising the name of the business will always help out and become the spread of the month. And so, they have 6,000 gold spent. They still can spend 2,000 gold left which means they should be paid to employees. Security is necessary as well but isn’t entirely needed. To make a functioning business, the initial recruitment will be necessary as crew."
"Once that is done, they should begin with their business and growth and then one by one fulfill the necessities."
Elaina nodded without a smile on her face and sighed.
"Alright. Thanks for the answer."
Rakkunzansa frowned at first, then realized something and became sad. Elaina stamped his paper and handed it to the goblin. As soon as the goblin got a hold of the paper, he couldn’t believe his eyes and Elaina smiled.
"Good answer. As I said before, it all depends on your answer. And since it is satisfactory, let’s get this started. Welcome to your new job, Mr. Rakkunzansa. From now on, you will be part of the business planning. Work hard, alright?
And so, Elaina and two left the room, leaving Rakkunzansa celebrating as he wiped off the sweat coming from his forehead.
"Finally! I have a job now!"
