Chapter 345: The Tattooed Secretary

Chapter 345: The Tattooed Secretary

Randolph led Elaina to the nearest pub of the town. Elaina have not reached this part of the town as she didn’t explore too much and she has no business there in the first place. Perhaps Julia and Princess Margaux since they have explored the town for areas they can shop, but for Elaina who have only gone to the nearest stores and buildings, she is new to this place.

"She should be inside the pub. There was a smoking area here and she can refill her cigarettes her anytime so if she wanted to smoke a lot, she will stay here," Randolph said as they entered the entrance of the pub. Considering it is still early in the afternoon, there aren’t too many people drinking.

"You have known this woman long enough?" Elaina asked.

"Pretty much. Although she is the first one to be employed, she became quite a reliable superior. However, her temper is something that clashes a lot to the other employees making her a hated person. I don’t hate her and I still talk to her but I usually have no time to engage in regular conversations with her will all of my work piled up. She usually gets angry on my behalf and would sometimes clash with the others like telling them to do their jobs."

Elaina is a bit worried about this person but if Randolph seems to hold this woman in high regards, she will judge her based on her interaction.

"There she is, the woman currently smoking at the very end corner. The one with a pony tail black hair and have tattoos on her arms."

Turning to where Randolph is pointing, she saw a girl dressed in the uniform that Randolph wears and has some piercings in her ears. Her image is very similar to a goth lady and now Elaina can understand why some prefer to not interact with her, she looks a bit daunting at first glance.

She looked up when she noticed Randolph approaching and puffed her final smoke before putting the butt of the cigarette to the ash tray and putting an alcohol sanitizer on her hands.

"Are you here to pick me up, Randolph? As much as you say that, I don’t want to apologize on what I said with those lazybones. I know you tolerate them, but I don’t," she said as she pulls out a mint gum and started chewing.

"Not at all Mei. I am here to introduce the new boss of the Zangrande Merchant Group. Uh..." Randolph looked at Elaina realizing that he didn’t know her name yet.

"Nice to meet you, Miss Mei. Randolph told me a lot about you. My name is Elaina Blois in the registered name but my real name is Elaina Zangrande."

Mei looked at Elaina from head to toe and her face have shown a hint of surprise.

"Surprising. You looked like a farmer to me than a regular businesswoman compared to the previous owners."

After blowing the bubblegum and popping it, she finished chewing the whole thing before throwing it in the nearby trash before she returned to face Elaina again.

"So? What is the business of our new boss for her to be here?"

"I recommended you to her when she was asking for a secretary. She recruited me first but considering my expertise, I am not fit to be a secretary. I think the role suits you better."

"Huh, really? What about those numbf*cks who think they should be the employee of the month? Those guys who quickly change flavor the moment someone with higher authority began to arrive?"

Elaina quickly answered her question. "All fired. Only Randolph and you are the only people left on the company at the moment. I needed a secretary so that they can help with the process of getting new recruits to replace the old staff."

The news surprised her a lot that she stood up from her seat in disbelief. "Really? You fired all of them? Are you sure you are not kidding and this is the real thing?" she asked.

"You can see for yourself back in the office. They didn’t anticipate my arrival and since I wear simple clothes, they have thought that I am a regular customer so I caught them lazing and ignoring work. Only Randolph here was working so I keep him and fired the rest. Then Randolph recommended you to me, though you stormed off because of some conflicts with the others?"

"Those poor bastards have been doing nothing but laze and sleep. Some are even drinking or just playing around while work piles up. It stresses the hell out of me and compared to Randolph who can tolerate those bastards like nothing, I could not do it and had to di-stress myself or else I might explode in anger from them. Thank goodness those guys are gone. So, are you the new boss then? My name is Mei. If you are looking for a person who can act as a secretary, then I am your girl, but are you competent enough to be our boss?" Mei asked.

"See for yourself. You can quit anytime you like if you don’t like how I do my policies and work."

"Good to know then. I hate stuck up people who thinks they know what they are doing only to end up embarrassing themselves. Hope you are not the same. Let’s head back. If what you said is true, the place workplace should be empty from those stress bringers and I can finally work in peace."

Elaina smiled hearing this. Mei immediately perked up when she heard everyone was fired except for her and Randolph which seems to be enough to make her energized. "Just so you know, the work will be a lot without any employees left to help."

"Nothing really changed, boss. With or without those people, the workload remained the same, its just more stressful with them being there."

...

...

...

When they returned and the news has indeed turned out to be true, Mei quickly perked up and did her job. Thanks to her, the process of dealing with the pending orders were immediately done before long. Randolph is also quite efficient in his job, showing on how capable he is on the job. The way he handles all the cargo and tallied all the missing cargos were quick. Since there are a few merchants that are neutral and works on different businesses, Randolph is able to gather the missing cargo allowing for quicker and smoother deliveries to those that needed it. Of course, Elaina suggested this tactic as she also wanted to check the current merchant lineup that are exclusive at working in the business. She wanted to see if these guys were good merchants or they are nothing but greedy people.

Their speed is enough to turn the pile of work to mere scraps after and the work ended up much earlier than expected. The work that was supposed to be done by a few days has been handled in just a few hours, dealing with everything quickly. Thanks to the capability of both Mei and Randolph,

"Whew. I haven’t worked straight for that long but thanks to the effort, all of the stockpiled work has been completed without much problem. I must say, clearing all the backlog work was something I never thought to be this enjoyable," Mei wiped off her sweat as she sat down on her chair and sighing.

"Well, thanks to the precise instructions of Boss, we finished the work. And without anyone stopping us from doing things, we are able to finish a lot," Randolph nodded as he finish drinking water.

Elaina is also quite satisfied by these two. She have seen people who are capable of their work and these two have overqualified for the work. In fact, they can even fill in to the some of the missing worker’s just fine and the business will still continue to thrive.

"I must say, you two are quite good in the job. What are your thoughts on recruiting people to help with work? After all, you two seems to be enough to run this place," Elaina asked.

"Just fine. It would be great to have new help...but I don’t want them to be unhelpful and more of a liability. I would prefer those who can help out on work and would do their own fair share of work if necessary. If this company recruits more people, I hope they can also work their asses as well and contribute in finishing the work," Mei shared her opinion.

"Same with Miss Mei’s opinion. If they would just end up like the old employees, then I would rather we don’t have any help than have them loiter around and do nothing."

"Then, we will recruit only those who are capable. You two seems to have good way to know who could do work and those who are lying. I think I will ask you two for help on filtering these potential employees. If we wanted this business to work well, then we should help each other."

The two nodded in response. As for Elaina, she is slowly recovering her business persona once more. It has been a while, but if she can continue to do this, then things will be much easier and some of her plans will be fufilled along the way. She is looking forward to the new future of the business.
