Chapter 342: The Inheritance

A few weeks have passed since the execution of Elaina and Troy’s parents. Troy has been out for quite a while and busy managing what their parents have left behind for them. Although it was just a transfer of ownership as a result of the deaths of the previous owners, they still needed to proceed to legal proceedings to ensure that those papers will not be forged and easily faked, which will result in getting the business confiscated. Both their grandparents are also handling the process as well which is why they have been silent and have not visited the farm for quite some time.

Elaina didn’t mind at all that things are getting longer than expected. It’s not like she was enthusiastic at owning the business of her parents anyways. Sure, it can give money for sure but, she is not a well liked person by the circle of merchants that was employed on that company. In fact, not too long ago, those same merchants have been doing some problems to her farm which was always foiled, but a threat nonetheless. She did wonder what happened to them as they stopped doing their shenanigans but if they got caught or anything, then it wasn’t her fault. They started it, so they suffer on it.

Enjoying the regular harvest day, Elaina is busy tallying the final harvests that she will be shipping through the shipping bin when Troy arrived, still dressed up, possibly from the legal processing of the transfer.

"Brother, you seemed happy so far?" Elaina noticed the happy skip that he was doing while approaching.

"Oh, is it that noticeable? Well, I was excited with my dinner date with Dr. Fey so I was looking forward to it."

"Hoho, so she have already answered you? When is the wedding?" Elaina teased her brother.

"What the... I still didn’t told her my feelings yet! And hey! How did you-"

"Tch, boring. As for how I noticed it, it was clear in your mannerisms and how you act. You are pretty easy to read, boy. I am your sister first and foremost. We have been close since we are kids so I have gotten used to how you act, don’t get too surprised now, you know?" Elaina sighed.

"Hey, why the heck are you disappointed?! I am progressing here, you know! It takes slowly to do it to ensure that she knows me perfectly. Being speedy will just turn into a disaster so it is better to do it like this, alright?"

Elaina chuckled. "Well, if you are doing it slowly, be active as well, alright? Make sure to compliment her and listen to her problems alright? Although Dr. Fey is a friend, I don’t know much of her as a woman so perhaps you should be more obvious in your actions?"

"Sis, I know you are trying to help me but, its alright. Trust me, I got this."

Elaina smiled at Troy’s determination. She didn’t say more as it might just make things worse.

"Say, Brother, what are you doing here? Are you going to do the tractor?" Elaina asked.

"Nope, I will be taking a few days of break. These past few days have been a chore and I wanted to have some relaxing time for once. I am here to actually give you something...Ah, right. I almost forgot," Troy then pulls out an envelope from his bag and handed it to Elaina who was surprised.

"What is this?"

"Remember the properties that our parents left after they died?"

"Yeah?"

"Well, it seems someone has already started to make some actions to transfer their name to the business and the properties that once belonged to our parents. It was a quick action as well as it happened right after the conclusion of the execution of the two. Thankfully, it seems that Father has anticipated it already and made sure that unless the letter he specifically stated in his will, the property transfer of ownership will not take place."

Hearing this, Elaina immediately thought of Selena. It was clear who’s work it was. Troy has clear no interests in taking the inheritance. And who else would it be left other than Selena herself? Not to mention, she clearly saw her back in the execution site. Elaina is not sure why she is doing this, but if the actions that were done by her parents were actually the result of her orders or perhaps, pleading, then there is no excuse to this. Sure, Elaina hate her parents but if not she actually nag them to do something like that, then she is the one to be blamed by their deaths as she influenced them to do it.

"So what happened?"

"Well, things was progressed and thanks to the will that our father left behind, the progress of the transfer was smoother than expected. Of course, the name was set on you. Not only that but once the name transfer is a success, the people under the management of our parents will be under your care. You would become their boss, which also means that you can remove them or perhaps add a few more to bolster the resources. It is your business now, of course."

Elaina scratches her head. Perhaps she will be dealing with business management soon. It will take some time but she will need to hire someone who can manage the business in her stead in the future. She will still do things related to the business but for paperwork, that will be something she will have to pass to someone else.

"Anyways, that letter there is the formal letter that will need your signature for approval. Read that stuff thoroughly as I don’t understand jack sh*t on it with all these terms and whatnot. You deal with it, alright?"

"Okay. When are you going to need this?"

"Perhaps tomorrow if possible so that we can finish this matter as soon as we can. This is getting annoying to be honest."

"So in short, once I sign this up, the business and properties are now under my name?" Elaina asked.

"Nope. It should be already your property now, the papers are just for legal purposes to ensure that we have the legal documents we can show in case things won’t go well. Otherwise, you are already owning all of the resources that our parents once hold."

"As much as this is quite a bother to do, I will do it."

"Ah, before I forget, according to the business management, since you are now in Darcero Kingdom, the office for the business will be transferred here. Although the businessmen in contract with the company has been working on Luminiera Kingdom, the process can still be done in here. As for the land properties, well, it is now up to you whether you wanted to sell them or not. After all, those lands were currently situated in Luminiera Kingdom," Troy added.

"Good to know. I will visit the office maybe later if I have time or perhaps tomorrow. As for the land, I shall take the ownership title before selling them. As much as those lands are great, I don’t want to bother managing lands that is situated in a kingdom I am hostile with. Selling or bartering them for new lands in other kingdoms would be a better choice for me."

"If that is what you want, I will tell grandpa and grandma later. They are excited to visit again once the work and legal proceedings are done."

"I see. Tell them if you meet them tomorrow that they are always welcome to the farm."

"Oh yeah, I don’t know if you like this piece of news but I will just tell you anyways. The funeral of our parents have already been concluded with our grandparents dealing with the ceremony. They have decided to cremate them and planned to spread their ashes into the ocean in the next few days after the legal processing."

She silently nodded. Although Troy knows that Elaina didn’t care about them, he can tell that even if she didn’t care, deep down, she had that slight sorrow felt after the incident. It might not be because they have died but because she felt a little guilty with the decision of death penalty after reading that final letter that their father gave before he was executed. He smiled bitterly after this little realization.

If only they have seen their wrongs...perhaps they wouldn’t even be in this situation where they are now dead. Perhaps, they would still be alive.

But it is too late now.

Papers has been scattered all over the place and an angry Selena is banging her fists to the table in her office. She have just returned a few days ago after finishing her business in Darcero Kingdom. She thought things would now fall into place, but for some reason, it seems that a variable has gotten in her way and now, the business and the land she was seeking for quite some time has not been transferred into her name...but to someone else.

"ELAINA! EVEN AFTER YOU LEFT, YOU STILL DARE TO TRY AND TAKE WHAT IS RIGHTFULLY MINE?!"
