Chapter 335: Sailing Trip [IV]
With the assault of piranhas(?) to them, the group started to defend the boat, Caroline brought the kids to the cabin for safety while the rest of the group started fighting the invading enemies. Elaina is having a hard time fighting the enemies considering that her usual weapon of choice is not present and her only weapon is a harpoon gun that can only fire one harpoon at a time and it takes a significant amount of time to even reload.
"These fishes are so vicious! What are these things? They are not sharks to be doing this!" the witch who has yet to know piranhas is confused to see fishes that attack the boat.
"Just focus on fighting them! We can ask the questions later!"
Caroline poke out her head out of the cabin and shouted at the First Prince. "Darling, get the engine going! If we stay here, we will just be constantly attacked by the fish! Escape while we defend the yacht!"
The First Prince did not hesitate to follow the suggestion of his wife and quickly stopped shooting and operate the yacht by turning on the engine. At first, it seems the engine was stuck by something but it didn’t take long after constant start, the boat started to crank up its engine and the yacht began to move.
"Don’t worry about us, Brother! Focus on driving away from here! We will be able to handle them ourselves!" Princess Margaux shouted as she whacked a piranha back to the sea with her cane.
Curaj silently but valiantly defends Princess Margaux like her knight, punching each Piranhas back to the sea like nothing, killing them every punch. His minotaur’s lineage is doing well in defeating the fishes in quick succession.
"Be careful everyone! Seriously, what is going on?"
While everyone is busy, Elaina shoots a harpoon at one of the jumping piranha and pulls the poor fish back to her Harpoon gun, killing it.
She then open the almanac, flipped through the fish records and just like she expected, harpooning a fish just like that was still considered as "catching" the fish and it will be immediately registered to the almanac. Its basic information already appeared before her but the information will be enhanced if she catches another few of these fishes again. Its not necessary, but useful to know new information of the fish. And considering these fish are not going to run out anytime soon, Elaina decides to unlash the harpoon gun properly and do some fishing.
BANG!
BANG!
BANG!
Her harpoon gun made a light bang every time it did the attack. Although it wasn’t that strong compared to a regular gun like the gun that the First Prince is using, the harpoon shot by the harpoon gun is enough to kill the fishes immediately.
"Sis! Watch out!" Julia shouted.
Elaina quickly turned around and aimed her harpoon gun and shot the fish, piercing its mouth with the harpoon and instantly killing it. Once the fish is dead, Elaina grabs the fish off of the harpoon carefully before throwing it on the side.
The attacks slowly slowed down as the boat got far but it was clear the piranhas was quite persistent and still tried to chase behind. Elaina and the group managed to have a time to rest as the yacht speeds up.
The downtime of the attacks allowed Elaina to once again look at the entry of the fish to the almanac and sure enough, the fish’s information has been updated and has received quite a few new entries as well.
----
"Sea Predator Piranha"
Caught: 24
Edible: Yes
Dangerous: Yes
Territorial: Yes
Available time to be caught: Spring and Winter: 8:00 A.M to 8:00 P.M
Information: A piranha that is a close relative to the regular piranhas. However, unlike the regular piranhas that are only considered dangerous if they smell blood in the water and quickly swarm the area, these fishes will track the source of the blood and will attack continuously without stopping. They naturally live on the sea and although seeing them near the shore is close to impossible, they can appear occasionally on the shoreline. It is best to avoid them if seen in the waters to avoid dangerous encounter with these vicious fish.
Note 1: Although they are brutal in their pursuit of prey, some fishermen takes advantage of this trait to bait these fishes and catch them before they can react and attack.
Note 2: These fishes are territorial and swimming near their territory is considered as suicidal. One dip and you will be welcomed by a dozen to hundreds of them in no time.
Note 3: They go hibernate during summer and autumn and becomes active once again during winter to spring, which is why summer is the most ideal season to swim as these fishes will not be present even on their territories, making the sea safe from these little creatures.
Note 4: Surprisingly, they don’t attack big vessels like passenger ships, schooners or brigs, but boats, yacht and other small water vessel are one of their targets.
Note 5: They are good ingredients and can be a really good food to be cooked. Just be careful catching them to avoid accidents but once you have secured the fish, you will be in for a treat.
----
The information is concise and easy to understand as well. Now Elaina understands why swimming during spring is not available and is only allowed during summer. This was the main reason.
It didn’t take long before the piranhas stopped chasing down the boat that everyone managed to sigh in relief. The First Prince also stopped the yacht and slumped down on his chair and grab the bottle of water on his side before gulping it down. The situation earlier was so chaotic that everyone got tired after the attack.
With the chaos outside subsided, Caroline peeks outside to check the situation and seeing that the problem has ended, she brought out the kids where two out of the three kids are unaware on what is going on. Adelaide immediately run towards the mermaid that is still unconscious but was currently encased on the water sphere that the witch made to keep the mermaid inside.
"It seems that those piranhas earlier was trying to track down the mermaid which causes them to attack when we took the mermaid out of the water. With the blood stopping the moment her wounds have healed, the piranhas began their attack on the nearest vessel that might house the one that might be sheltering the wounded. Which is why we got relentlessly jumped on by the piranhas," Julia said as she took two bottles of mana potion from her bag and toss the other one to the witch who caught it.
"What are piranhas? This is the first time I heard of that term..." the witch scratches her head.
"Vicious fishes that swarms their victims the moment they smell blood. You can say they seemed like vampires of the water, but they act like hungry cannibals as they rip off flesh from their victim as fast as they can. Heard they are usually living around rivers and rarely on lakes, but mostly on rivers. Never heard of them being in the sea though," Julia scratches her head after she emptied the bottle of mana potion before putting it back in her bag.
Princess Margaux approached the pile of fishes that they have killed so far and took one of the fishes up before smelling it.
"Princess, why are you smelling that?" Curaj frowned when Princess Margaux began sniffing the fish.
"I don’t know either Curaj, but look! For once, I don’t smell the pungent smell of the fish? It’s not fishy smelling like other fishes do and instead, it does smell good."
The First Prince went down from the top deck and picked up one of the fishes that are scattered after the battle and just like Princess Margaux, he smelled it and nodded.
"It seems that our misfortune earlier has been rewarded. Let’s cook them up then. Let’s treat it as if we are taking our revenge on them for attacking us earlier."
