A Single Mother's Farm of the Gods
Chapter 336: Sailing Trip [V]

Chapter 336: Sailing Trip [V]

Two pails became full from all of the piranhas they had gathered on the deck. Although a few of them are beyond recognition after being blasted by either the gun or a strong magic blast, they are still edible and can still be used in other cooking. As for those fishes that are still whole, they are separated into other pails and will be cleaned up and prepared for the cooking.

Elaina glanced at her Almanac and looked at her mastery skills related to fishing. Fishing mastery takes quite a while to level up which is why she looked at the current progress of the fishing mastery.

"Looks like it is almost done. Maybe around 10 or more catches and the bar will fill up. Still disappointing that it levels up so slow," Elaina sighed. She understands that it will take a bit of effort to level the mastery up considering the significant effects that she can earn once she levels up the mastery but even still, leveling them up is just too slow. Even her farming mastery has taken so long ever since she became a level 2.

"Sis, what are you doing? You seemed out of it," Julia asked when she saw Elaina staring blankly in a vacant space.

"Ah, nothing! I was just wondering how should we prepare the piranhas to make them good to eat," Elaina quickly made an alibi and closed her Almanac.

"Is that so? Well, not many of us here are good cooks. Miss Caroline knows a few stuff in cooking, but this will be her first time preparing a fish of this kind," Julia shrugged.

"Hmm, then perhaps we should try on what I am thinking. I am not sure if this will work but I have seen how Mr. Douglas prepares a fish his way and makes it into a delectable dish. Perhaps we can use that for this fish."

"As long as we can eat, it, I guess it should be fine."

Elaina nodded and the group went to the kitchen counter on the bottom deck where the cooking tools and the grill were being set up. Caroline and the First Prince are currently cleaning the fish with difficulty. It is clear in their movements that they are not too adept at what they are doing.

"Your Highness, Caroline, how about I prepare the fish?" Elaina presented herself as she wore the apron.

"You know how to prepare the fish?" Caroline asked.

"Let’s just say I have some little experience. Though not specifically on this fish."

The First Prince immediately give up the knife to Elaina without a second thought. "Well, since you are offering. So how should we cook this fish? I will prepare the things we will need to cook them."

"Prepare the cooking grill, your highness. We shall do some grilling first. We can also fry them but we should grill them first."

The First Prince nodded and headed to the grill to begin his preparation. Elaina smiled at Caroline and grab one of the fishes that has been washed.

"The fish seems hard to clean. Not to mention, it has some daunting spiky fins..." Caroline said as she finishes washing those fishes.

"Indeed. But there is a good way to do this," Elaina said with confidence.

Ever since Elaina unlocked the cooking mastery and the cooking pages, her knowledge in cooking seems to have increased a lot. Preparations of random ingredients have been enhanced a lot. Not only that, she is able to properly do it without needing someone to guide her. It was like she has been learning how to cook for many years.

Twirling the knife on her hands, Elaina began her fish cleanup preparation.

Adelaide is still looking at the mermaid before them that is still encased with the seawater ball that the Witch conjured. Compared to her who is worried on the mermaid, the other two kids are poking on the water ball like it was fun. It was clear that Zane and Arthur became close friends already.

"Cut that out, you two. Poking on the water ball might make some problem with the mermaid inside," Adelaide scolded the two.

"But...squishy..." Zane pokes the water ball again.

Adelaide scratches her head. "You can just poke the water and I bet you can feel the squishiness as well. Just not at this one."

"Why fish girl sweeping?" Arthur asked, though it seems he is asking if why the mermaid is still sleeping.

"I don’t know. She must be injured by something. Based on her wounds, it is likely a weapon of some sort. There is no way something in the sea aside from weapons can easily damage her scales on her legs. That should be one of her defense mechanisms."

The Witch was having fun listening on the kids talking, especially Adelaide who is still very young and yet she speaks so fluently like an adult. Although she is wondering why this kid is hiding that she is very fluent in speaking, it is not in her nature to reveal a secret of someone to others. If little Adelaide continues to hide it, she has no liberty of revealing that matter to others. It is Adelaide’s part to reveal that to others, not her.

Adelaide is also aware that the Witch has already seen her speak like an adult, but she is not worried. She has already discovered it since when they were still at home when her mother has been working and doing some things and when Julia is preparing something in the kitchen. And yet, even with that revelation, her secret has yet to be known by everyone so instead of silencing her and blackmailing her on hiding it, she just leave at it.

"What are you going to do with the Mermaid, Ade?" the witch asked.

"For now, I want to bring her to the farm. Since there was a merfolk at home, a goddess and literal fairies, perhaps they can help out on her condition. Mother will surely agree."

"Bring fish girl with us?" Arthur asked.

"Yeah. She might be in danger in the sea so we will bring her with us. Whatever is threatening her life must still be out there. And I doubt she will be able to escape if we just leave her alone. She might just get picked up by other people who happens to pass by."

Might be because she felt pity on the mermaid who is still very young that she wanted to bring the girl to safety. At least on the farm, anyone who is not human has not been discriminated by her mother and everyone who visits the farm. That’s what she likes on her Mother.

"I am not against that but how do we even bring her with us? It’s not like we can just shove her on the dimensional storage bag that your mother always carry. I heard from her that living beings are not able to enter the bag without dying inside so it is a death sentence for her if we just shove her inside. And carrying her in the open would just bring more attention to the others. I can cast invisibility to her but we will give up the protective water ball on her body as a result as I can’t cast another spell while maintaining this one. Casting attack spells is one thing since they are easy to do while maintaining this ball, but doing another spell like the invisibility will not be easy to do," the Witch explained.

"Sister Julia might have a solution, I will try to plead to her later once she is done with whatever she is doing."

In just a few minutes of cleaning process, Elaina has already cleaned up the majority of the piranhas clean. She already removed the guts and the scales of the fish along with the sharp fins that might prick someone if they are not careful in handling the fish.

"I am speechless by your skills, Elaina! Your quick knife work is not ordinary! Are you sure you were the empress before in Luminiera Kingdom? I thought you were someone who rely only on servants for cooking?" Caroline was surprised by Elaina’s skill.

"Haha, in truth, I just recently practiced this. I am not really a good expert like most expert cooks out there but I do practice to make good food for everyone. What’s good for a farmer if they can’t even use their produce for cooking something good in the process."

Caroline nodded in agreement. "I agree. If I also have a supply of fresh ingredients like you, even I would try to practice to cook."

Once Elaina finished the final fish and washed it with water to get rid the remaining blood and the sticking scales, Elaina began slicing the fish in half. Their sizes are big, as big as the size of a human’s head, making it a good idea to slice the fish in two. Unlike the cleaning session, the cutting process is faster and it didn’t take too long for the girls to finish the task.

"Alright, this should be good for the grill. Let’s bring this to your husband!"

Elaina is looking forward to this. After all, this will contribute to her task from the Goddess of Cooking to cook something new and this will also contribute on cooking mastery. The more experience she have in cooking, the better.
