Chapter 283: Elaina’s Sword’s Origin
Elaina can tell that the individual before her is not just another one of these guys who almost attacked her. He exudes some sort of aura that kind of reminds her of the sages from the magic tower that visit once in a while in the Kingdom of Luminiera’s castle for some business here and there. However, unlike the sages, this individual who looks like an old man with a very stylish beard doesn’t seem to have any sort of air like the sages. But his way of handling himself is enough to show his status and authority.
"I know that it has been ages since I have seen another human...but care to tell me whether you are a male or female human? For me, humans with no beards just look the same to me," the old dwarf began to caress his beard while also eyeing Elaina.
"I am a female human...but why are you all attacking me? I am not here to fight," Elaina still didn’t let go of her weapon as this will be her lifeline and she didn’t know if these dwarves were going to be kind or not considering this is the first time she have seen them in her whole life.
"Ah, my apologies for the rude behavior of my companions. They have yet to see a living human in their lives and your appearance here today should be their first meeting. You can say that you are a foreign being for them and considering the constant attacks of monsters from above and below, we have to be constantly vigilant or else, the monsters might claim many lives in the process."
Elaina was surprised to hear that monsters are capable of breaching through other floors. She thought that they just spawn on those floors in a random interval time after leaving. So they also have the ability to go above or lower depending on the monster.
Seeing that Elaina is still vigilant despite their talk, the elder gestured to put down all of their weapons. Some tried to protest but the elder shook his head and soon followed suit from the others who had already put their weapons down. Elaina also dropped her guard and sheathed her sword back to the scabbard, when all of a sudden, the elder’s eyes lit up and he screamed as he pointed at Elaina’s sword when Elaina was about to put the sword back.
"T-that sword! I am not being mistaken am I right? No, I shouldn’t be wrong, that sword is indeed what I think it is!"
Elaina was taken aback by the elder dwarf’s reaction as she glance at the sword that is halfway sheathed on its scabbard.
"You know this sword?" Elaina asked.
"Yes. And I must say that seeing it again like this brings me tears of joy. Never in my life would I dream to see it again and still in a very prestigious and well maintained form like it has been just made yesterday."
Hearing that, Elaina pulls the sword out again from the scabbard and raised the blade upwards, showing its luster and sharpness evident from the light of the dwarves’s torches and light sources they carry. For Elaina, this sword is much older than her as this was once a sword that belongs to his grandfather. But since swords are not the main weapons of his grandfather and he rarely have any uses of it, he gave it to her who shows promise in usage of that sword and now Elaina treats it as her partner for life. It was present during the thick and think parts of her life and still aiding her till this day.
But she soon realized that she didn’t really have any information regarding this sword aside from the fact that her grandfather found it in one of the ruins they have raided with his party back in the days. Because the sword’s shape and length, the sword user on his party did not take the sword and was planning to use it, only for his grandpa to salvage it for himself and now, it is now her property. She even has no idea what the name of this sword is in the first place. She just knew that that this sword is built for intense battles and for quick decisive blows that would not leave enemies alive once they get sliced through it.
"Can I hold it?" the Elder asked.
Although reluctant to let go, Elaina nodded and handed the sword to him and as soon as he had the sword in his hands, he started to admire the blade again.
"Ah, the worksmanship of this blade still never stop ceasing to amaze me. Not only does this sword remains one of the best works us dwarves have made, this sword remains as the only byproduct of that bygone era that still radiates such radiance and luster. If only we can return to that time, then probably our race will once again rise again."
"Do you perhaps know the name of this sword by any chance?" Elaina asked.
"You don’t know the name of your sword?" the Elder was surprised as he handed back the sword to Elaina.
"Honestly? Yes. I may have been using this sword for as long as I can remember but I never knew any signs of its name or what it was even called to begin with. Call me an ignorant and all, but it doesn’t change the fact this sword remains to be an unnamed, peculiar sword to me," Elaina receives the sword again and returns it on her scabbard, for real this time.
The Elder sighed and looked at his followers for a bit. "You lazybums should return to your stations! Don’t just keep on watching on us, work on your works, I will attend to our esteemed visitor."
With the elder’s hoarse yet stern command tone, the men who was once busy listening to the conversation of the two gather their weapons that they dropped to the ground and returned to their original posts.
"Come with me. To my forge. I will tell you and show you the sword’s origin and its name."
