Chapter 284: A Dwarf’s Specialty

Chapter 284: A Dwarf’s Specialty

At first, Elaina thought that she would have to force herself to get inside one of those houses they passed by as she have not seen any sort of houses bigger than them. She can barely put her head inside the doorway, there’s no way her whole body can even get inside as well.

Turns out, the elder will bring her to his forge that is located outside his house. Compared to his house which looks like a tiny hut that only one dwarf can enter, his forge is massive and it is like a mini factory with various tools running even when he is not there.

"Welcome to my humble abode and to my workshop that I am proud to call as my heart and soul. Sit anywhere you like, just don’t get too close to the forge, the surface is hot."

Elaina nodded and scooted around before she found a free spot not too far from the materials that were gathered and sat down on the ground.

"Ah...right...I forgot humans are much bigger than us...unfortunately, I don’t have much that I can offer you.

"It’s fine. It’s not like you anticipated my arrival anyway," Elaina smiled.

"Alright, first, let’s begin a little history lesson before we head over to the name of your sword, is that alright with you? Unless our records are still out there and you have read some of them," the elder grabs his hammer and pulls one of the heated metals on the forge and inspects it before he puts it back inside the forge and lets it heat up again.

"I barely have information about your race or anything related to the dwarf races at all. I only have the minimum information and it’s not much."

The elder nodded.

"Alright. Considering that you still knew about our race, that must mean there are still some little records left about us even after all these years. It’s kind of surprising to be honest considering that time flows much differently here compared to the time flowing outside this place, it would mean a few years of us living in this place would mean only a few years have passed over there."

Elaina nodded but she felt a bit guilty telling a bit of a lie. Even though there are no records she has found about Dwarves, there must be bound to be some left behind, right?

"We, the Dwarves are considered as a race that specializes in crafting and smithing. We don’t even have much work other than creating new things or new weapons made using materials gathered from various resources. Due to our workmanship, any race wanted to employ our services to get the benefits of our work. It might sound like I am bragging and it is some false information but I am speaking facts here."

The God of Farming quickly chimed in. "[What he is saying is true. Even we gods can say that they are the ones who seem to have obtained the most blessings out of all the mortals we have blessed before. The God of Crafting and Blacksmithing felt like he poured all of his blessings on them without restraint, causing his skills to almost get replicated by them in the process. It will be a good idea to befriend him as we might get the benefits of asking them for new tools for the farm.]"

If the God of Farming is saying this, Elaina has no need to doubt the authenticity of his words. Still, she didn’t expect that even the God of Farming is quite opportunistic of an individual.

"I explained the most and the gist of all of what our race can do. Although there are more things I can explain, I don’t want to bore you with just random things related to us. You didn’t come here to listen to me ramble about how great our race is to begin with. You are here for the origin of your sword and its name, yes? Good."

He puts down his hammer and rummages into the boxes of weapons not too far from him and pulls out something.

"As you can see, we dwarves create things based on the specifications of the user and the materials they bring to us. We cannot provide the materials alone so we ask those who want to have our services be availed, they need to have things that will be used to work with. And to that, we have one person who appeared before us in the past. I was still a young kid currently in training with my pops to create weapons and I was currently the assistant at that time."

He revealed what he was holding to be some sort of stick.

"How long ago do you think it was?" Elaina asked.

"Not too sure about it in human years since time is flowing differently for us dwarves who lived here all their lives. It might not be too long ago since we have done it but for us, it’s already quite a lot of time. As for me, he managed to get a weapon forged around 10,000 years ago."

Elaina’s eyes almost popped out of her sockets hearing the number of years that the elder had spouted.

"T-ten centuries ago?!"

"As I have said before, time is much slower here. Although we age much slower here as well, we still count the time here like how we did count time and date back in the surface so the years counted should not be the most accurate time we have. Now, this man gave us weird specifics for the sword that he wanted to be forged. For the first time, we didn’t expect to hear someone have a simple sleek sword that has only one edge but is sharp enough that it can cut through metal and steel if possible."

As soon as he finished talking, he held the stick in his hands like a sword, and in a swift pull, the stick was soon revealed to be something else. A sword much similar to the sword that Elaina has...but is much shorter than her blade. Still, based on the glint of the sword’s blade, it is clear that it is much sharper than her sword. A sword that has yet to taste the real taste of battle and blood.

"The sword you use, he calls it a "Daito" meaning long sword in his language though I didn’t know what language that was to begin with. As for this one in my hands, this is what you can say as the partner of your sword. The "Shoto."
