Chapter 282: Lost Race
Chapter 282: Lost Race
While Julia is now descending on her own into the mine’s depths, Elaina is unaware of the other’s actions and continues to climb down on the mines. However, just like what she expected, the mines have started to get really big. It’s not as big on the 21st floor, but as soon as she stepped into the 25th floor, the space got really wide and the ladder to get into the new level took a while to find now that she has to break every single ore scattered around the area and be lucky to find it from the countless ores to break.
Thankfully, Elaina is dedicated so despite the added difficulty, she just mindlessly breaks every ore, collects what she can get from them, and continues the cycle. It didn’t take too long for her to find the next floor’s ladder. She checks the surrounding ores for any valuable veins and seeing that she didn’t find any, she then descends to the next floor. And...the cycle continues...
Soon they finally arrived on the floor 30th floor.
"DING!"
As soon as she descended to the 30th floor, she looked around and frowned seeing something different. If the other floors did surprise Elaina from their surprises, this time, Elaina was so surprised, that she was not sure if she was seeing things correctly or not.
Rubbing her eyes, she stares at her discovery again and this time, it is indeed the real deal and not just something that will only appear in her imagination.
"Is this a little village?"
Elaina was baffled at this. She was quite sure she was still inside the mines but after she descended to this new place, she was hesitant about whether they were indeed on the 30th floor or if she was just tired and is currently seeing a mirage. However, once she pinches herself, she soon realizes it was indeed the real deal.
"[A village underneath the mines? That is something even I didn’t think would exist but seeing what you are seeing Elaina, I don’t think you are hallucinating or anything. You are indeed seeing a village settlement.]"
Hearing the God of Farming’s confirmation about it, she is now sure that she is seeing things correctly...but why is there a village inside the mines in the first place?
"[Don’t enter the area carelessly Elaina, if the place is crawling with enemies, be sure to climb back to the surface. With the elevator functional now, it shouldn’t be a problem to head there quick. If there are signs that you are going to be in danger, don’t hesitate to bolt out and leave.]"
"Yes. I know," Elaina nodded and grip her sword tight as she slowly walk towards the little village. Compared to the regular villages in the surface, the little village is quite small for a human to live and if she enters one, she will have to remain crouching inside one. Heck, even the entrance is too small for Elaina to even enter.
"Is this perhaps a goblin settlement? But I never heard of goblins creating a village like this and be civilized like humans. They all live on caves and dungeons and nowhere else...but is there any race who are making houses like this?"
Just as Elaina is questioning herself on who are the inhabitants on this tiny village, one of the doors opened and a person as tall as a 5-6 year old human child appears carrying various tools on his hand. The person is not a kid anymore as he looks older than Elaina. Not only that but kids still can’t have beards that are thick as a bush like them that have those beards connect with their hair. Despite their long beards, they don’t look like some kind of neckbeard humans she have seen. Those beards are stylized and it seems that they are also maintaining it like regular hair does.
"Midgets? Inside the mines? Don’t tell me they are the miners of this mine..." Elaina ponders.
"[No. Those aren’t midgets...they should be the elusive Dwarf race.]" the God of Farming revealed.
"Elusive...? These guys?" Elaina frowned.
"[It’s clear you don’t know about them, Elaina, but that is to be expected. All records pertaining their existence should be wiped out from the history of man after all. However, they are what you call one of the original races who roamed Earth alongside humans, beastmen, and elves. The only difference with the three races is that these group of people have decided to hide during the Wars in an attempt to keep their existence safe and have their works be protected and never used for evil.]" the God of Farming explained, though this made Elaina confused further.
"What? Why would they hide? And what makes them formidable-"
Before Elaina can finish her words, she detected something behind her and she quickly pulled her sword and...
TANG!
A dull thud echoes the entire area as a big hammer clashes with Elaina’s sword. Elaina grit her teeth as she struggles to deflect the attacker’s weapon away from her.
"GAH!" Elaina barely managed to get away and as soon as she can move again, she backed away from the attacker so that she can see who it was.
"Good swordsmanship, but as an intruder, you are not welcome here. Begone Monster!" the figure was quick despite lugging around a big hammer in his two hands. It was like he didn’t feel any weight on his hands while wielding it that Elaina can feel the danger emanating from this guy.
He started swinging his hammer again but this time, much quicker. Elaina has no time to block so she scampers by rolling away from the enemy but he was also anticipating that and before Elaina can recover from rolling, the enemy’s hammer came down and was about to hit her. However, Elaina didn’t want to get bested by an unknown enemy like this and raised her sword in front of her and blocked the attack once more. However, since she was now lying on the ground while the enemy is standing before her and is forcing the force of his swing to the hammer, just blocking the hammer is extremely hard.
"[Elaina! Run! There is no way for you to win!]" the God of Farming shouted.
However, she barely can even move anymore, how can she even run away?
"Is this how I will meet my end?" Elaina ponders herself...but then flashbacks of her two children appeared before her mind. Remembering all of her time with her children, Elaina grit her teeth. She might not be strong enough to best the opponent before her but she isn’t going to die here.
"GRAAH!"
Elaina kicks the enemy in the balls after she struggled, causing the enemy to stagger and lost his strength in the process. As for Elaina, she quickly gets up and moved further from the enemy whom she soon realized to be another dwarf who wears protective armor on some of his body parts that are important to be blocked...except for the groin where it was bare and nothing covering, allowing Elaina to counterattack and exploit one of the main weaknesses that men have. She apologized silently as she heard it was a painful injury that even other men who are in the vicinity who only have seen it would also wince in pain like they also got hit in the balls.
Elaina is ready to fight back when a loud voice interrupts the fight.
"That’s enough, Rodo. You are scaring the human. As for you human, welcome to our little village. Still...I didn’t expect to see another human after all these years..."
Elaina stopped on her tracks and looked at the direction where the voice came and saw multiple dwarves who are gathered behind a man who looks like a human but has the same height as the people around. The only thing that made him more presentable than the rest of the dwarves is that he barely has any beard on his face.
However, even though that person has no beard on his face...he is still a dwarf.
