Chapter 280: Ancient Jewel Plant

Just like that, the insects and birds flocking around the place flee immediately like they are avoiding their predators. It wasn’t just a coincidence that they disappeared after she harvested all of those gems from the plant in the first place. They have been like that since the very beginning. With the plant blooming, they started flocking and gathering over at the plant, but now that the plant’s fruits are harvested and the main plant itself has disintegrated into dust, the insects and birds no longer need to be there anymore and flee as if they have awakened from possession.

As soon as the birds and insects have fled from the scene, the barrier on Elaina’s body also dissipates. Opening her palms, the precious stones in her hands glitter like the real deal that is mined. The only difference between the mined and the one she is holding right now is that the one she is holding right now seems to have already been processed.

The others quickly gathered around Elaina to check on what she took from the plant that caused the incident they were having a problem with to disappear completely.

"What was that, Farmer? That is the first time I have seen a plant like that!" the Harvest Goddess exclaimed as she eyed the "fruits" before her.

"Jewels?" Princess Margaux frowned.

"No. They are precious rocks. They become jewels once they are processed and can now be used for creating pieces of jewelry," Julia explained. Since she helped Elaina before in processing some of those jewels to sell, she has some knowledge regarding it.

"Those precious jewels came from the plant? Aren’t they something that can only be mined inside the mines or dropped by monsters in dungeons?" Princess Margaux frowned. This is the first time she has heard of things like this being harvested from a plant.

Elaina stares at the precious rocks and seems to be contemplating something.

"Something on your mind, farmer? You seemed out of it?" the Harvest Goddess noticed Elaina’s blanking out.

All of a sudden, Elaina holds one of the jewels in her fingers before putting it in her mouth and biting it like it was food.

CRACK!

Elaina quickly jolted in pain as the jewel did not turn out as she thought it would be. Her teeth that bit the precious rock hurt a bit, but thankfully, none of her teeth totally cracked as a result.

Julia had a bewildered look on her face as soon as she saw Elaina do it.

"Sis, what has gotten in your mind to try that in the first place?"

Elaina awkwardly scratched her head.

"My curiosity got the best of me. Since these came from the plant, I thought it would be hard in the feel but it can be eaten and will become soft if bitten with my teeth. Guess I was wrong."

Elaina looked at the precious rock that she had bitten and as expected, no cracks or scratches on its surface.

"Damn, so they are the real deal," Elaina shook her head as she thought it was just fruits in the form of precious rocks.

"Anyways, what happened? After the harvest, the plant seems to have disintegrated earlier which is kind of weird for a plant."

Elaina nodded. "Yeah, they did disintegrate which is kind of weird. Plants do not disintegrate when they have their plants harvested in the process. But seeing it firsthand, I think it was just a unique feature of that plant. Not only that but as soon as I got all of the precious rocks that were growing on that plant and it disintegrated, it dropped a bag of seeds containing one more seed similar to the seed that I planted.

"That’s a very weird way to keep itself from reproducing. But seriously Sis, where did you get this plant anyway? There’s no way this was sold in the market. You barely buy any seed nowadays since you cultivate your plants and get seeds and the needed materials to grow a new plant.

Elaina sighed. Julia is very perceptive but she still can’t reveal where she got the seed’s origin. She has yet to reveal that the seed came from the mines and she got it during her exploration deep within.

"I don’t remember where. I just remembered I got it in my pocket. Since it was a seed, I included it in the plants I planted and kinda forgot about it. From the looks of it, it will still grow even if not taken care of."

The Feys were also surprised. "So you didn’t take care of this plant, boss? Not even once? We just included it on the plants that we are taking care of every day so we didn’t really know the case of this one."

"Nope, I kinda forgot about it," Elaina scratched her head. Although it is half true, she did forget about it before so it isn’t exactly a lie either.

"In any case, this precious jewels are now in our hands so how about you get them checked if they are good, Sis? What if they are real and we can sell them to the jewelry stores? And considering that they are not yet processed, we might get a big profit if we sold them," Julia suggested.

"Good idea. But what if they are fake, we might get imprisoned for fraud!" Elaina feared. She has dealt with lots of jewelry before and she also handled cases of fraud related to fake pieces of jewelry in the past as well so she is not new to this kind of stuff.

"That’s why we are going to test it for its authenticity before we sell it. That way, if they found out this thing are not real pieces of unprocessed precious rocks, then we can just bring it back to us. It’s not like we are selling it to them just yet, just asking for authenticity is not a crime if we find it is fake. If it was real, then we can sell them like we intended," Julie explained.

"Really? Then, we can do that. But first, we plant this seed and make this plant grow once more. If this turned out to be real, then it would be a great thing."

Everyone nodded. Elaina quickly planted the seed and the Feys watered the newly planted seed.

"Do you have an idea about this seed or what we should call it?" Elaina asked the Harvest Goddess.

"No idea. How about you inquire to the Gods about it? They should have a name for everything including this one."

Since the God of Farming is already watching them silently, Elaina decided to inquire him about this matter.

"You are watching right?" Elaina asked.

"[Of course. Although I tasked you to plant and grow it, even with it growing into a full-fledged plant, it still wasn’t clear to me what this plant was in the first place. I didn’t create this at all and considering that it bears fruit that are not edible and are instead things that appear in the mines, I asked the other gods if they knew about this plant and even they, have no idea what it was either.]"

"Even the gods have no idea what this was?"

"[Yes, but perhaps it was just because the seed itself preceded our existence. Since we didn’t know where it came from and who made it, we can only deduce that this seed and plant is a product of the primordial gods. Gods who came before us.]"

"There are gods who came before you guys?!" Elaina was surprised.

"[Yes, but even we were not knowledgeable about them and they are no longer here with us. They don’t appear to have died or have destroyed themselves. They just...disappeared.]"

"That wasn’t the case huh? Alright, then do you have a name for this then? If it wasn’t something you or the other gods made in the first place, we can just name it ourselves for identification."

"[True. How about Ancient Jewel Plant?]"

"Ancient Jewel Plant? Why ancient?" Elaina frowned.

"[Considering that it might come before us gods, then it must be more ancient than us. We can’t label it as primordial since this is just a speculation so instead, we can just label it as ancient instead. And since it grows jewels instead of fruit or vegetables, this is a much more fitting name instead of a random one and we can just keep its name like this for easy identification.]"

Elaina nodded in the explanation. And it suits as well for being a plant that bears jewels. The name indeed suits the plant itself. Elaina then turned to everyone and revealed the name of the plant.

"According to the gods, the plant is now called Ancient Jewel Plant."

And so, the Ancient Jewel Plant came into existence that even the gods had no idea where and when it came from. But now that it exists, it is now being cultivated by Elaina with the permission of the God of Farming. Of course, Elaina has no idea that this seed is just part of a bigger mystery that she will uncover in the future. But that is a story for another day.
