A Single Mother's Farm of the Gods -
Chapter 279: Mysterious Plant Harvesting
Chapter 279: Mysterious Plant Harvesting
The God of Farming then gave Elaina the necessary things she needed to grow the new plants. Like always, the God of Farming tasked Elaina with growing them, recording their growth and how they work. Since the environment where the gods resides is different from the mortal world, Elaina’s efforts and actions are valuable research material for the God of Farming.
He also tasked Elaina to plant these new plants on the Dungeon farm and how different they are in growth once they are grown in different environments. As this was her main task since the moment she accepted the blessings from the God of Farming, she will have to produce results that would help with the aim that the God of Farming wanted.
But since it is already late, Elaina decided that she will do the planting process tomorrow. She can’t afford to make the Feys work overtime just for this. She will need to do this alone.
As she was about to go back inside the house, Elaina noticed the plant that she had planted during the winter. It was the mysterious seed that she planted back then. Right now, it has grown big and is now showing some fruits hanging under its leaves. Looking at the Almanac, the fruit does not seem ready for harvest yet. However, her eyes are already catching her attention as this fruit is already showing big signs that it is a different breed from other plants.
But Elaina didn’t want to check the fruits just yet. Looking at the schedule, the next day would be the best time to check the mysterious plant’s fruits. She just needed to be patient for now.
...
...
...
The next day, Elaina’s nose is suddenly welcomed with some fruit’s sweet and calming scent. Elaina frowned as she clearly didn’t use any sort of air freshener in her room last night and yet this scent she is smelling right now seems to be wafting all over her room.
"That’s a good smell...but where is it coming from?" Elaina frowned and got up in her bed. She checked her children if they were carrying anything in their hands and is currently hidden in their crib but there was none.
Since the smell didn’t come from her children, she checked around the area in her room and realized that the scent seemed to not be originating inside the room...but it came from the outside.
Opening the windows, the sweet smell that she is smelling intensifies and there are even various butterflies, birds, and bees flying around the farm.
"Farmer! What is happening on the farm? Why are there so many insects and flying critters around?!" The Harvest Goddess popped out of the window, causing Elaina to almost punch the goddess out of sheer shock. Luckily, the Harvest Goddess dodged the punch.
"Hey, next time you do that, you might be losing one of your teeth next time. Don’t do it again!" Elaina scolded the Harvest Goddess.
"Sorry but this is urgent, I don’t know what is happening but why is the farm currently being crowded by these flying critters?! There’s nothing like this happening before!"
Seeing how bewildered the Harvest Goddess was over the situation happening outside, Elaina quickly changed into her work clothes and went outside the farmhouse where she met Princess Margaux, Julia, Curaj, Pixie, and the fairies, and the Feys who are all wondering where the sweet smell is coming from.
"Elaina, did you plant or make something that would cause the abundance of birds and butterflies around the area?" Troy asked.
"Brother, I just woke up from sleep and I was just as surprised as you, you know? I am not even sure what is happening in the first place."
"So it wasn’t your doing then..." Troy has a confused look on his face.
"Nope. I am as confused as you and the others. Tell me what happened then?"
The Harvest Goddess is the one who decided to talk to Elaina about the incident. It seems that she is the first one who has noticed the strange phenomena and experienced it firsthand.
"Alright, around dawn, I am getting ready to do my usual job when I suddenly smell the sweet scent we are smelling right now. It is pleasant on the nose but I am not familiar with the scent at all which is weird considering that I know a lot of plants and fruits that I am very familiar with their scents. I even knew the bad-smelling fruits and flowers to the point I could recite them in my head. But for the first time, I have not smelled this scent at all, and considering the little critters suddenly flocking around the farm, it is clear that the sweet scent is the main cause of all of this, but the problem is that I don’t know where it was coming from in the first place."
The fairies also looked troubled as they had not seen this kind of spectacle either. Even the Feys seem to be not able to tell what is happening either.
"How about tracing the smell? It shouldn’t be too hard, yeah?" Elaina suggested.
"That’s the thing. I already tried that earlier to solve the critters flocking all over the place. I even had to ask both Shardu and Zaza for help but even them are having a hard time tracking the smell because it was too strong for their noses. Then I realize that the smell is all over the place and tracking down the smell is hard to do due to it sticking all over the place and leading you nowhere."
Elaina scratches her head. If they can’t find the source, then the place will be filled with flying bugs, birds, and more bugs of various species in the future. But just as they thought that something might have made them miss something, Elaina noticed one of the plants that seemed to be sparkling amidst the crowding insects and birds.
The Mysterious plant that she mentally noted to be ready to harvest is now looking different. Not only does the plant become different from yesterday, but it has become a different plant altogether that she cannot say it was a plant, to begin with.
The fruits hanging under the leaves are big precious stones that Elaina recognized after she mined a lot of them in the first place. She recognized most of them, Ruby, Opal, Sapphire, Aquamarine, and a few more and she was bewildered as to why a plant was currently growing with precious stones as its fruits.
It didn’t stop there. Aside from the fruits becoming precious stones that can be sold expensively in jewelry shops, the plant itself has undergone a big transformation as well. Its once leafy leaves are now solid and as clear as glass. It was like a colored glass was molded to become like a green leaf.
These "glass" leaves are attached to the stems that are also looking like they are made of glass as well. It is like a glass sculpture that was stabbed to the ground and replaced the previous plant that Elaina planted before. As for the plant that was growing before which Elaina checked yesterday, it wasn’t there anymore and was replaced with the new plant...or perhaps this was the same plant as before, but it has evolved into a plant that is different than before.
"Julia, can you use a barrier magic on me? One that can at least repel these insects and critters away from me."
"I only have basic barrier that can block physical attack, Sis. I don’t think it can block those critters though so there is no guarantee," Julia said.
"That’s fine. Cast it on me."
Julia nodded and Elaina is covered in a barrier that can block physical attacks. But like what Julia said, they block physical attacks but critters entering the barrier does not count and they can pass through it no problem. That’s when Princess Margaux volunteered.
"Miss Elaina, perhaps I can help. I don’t know if it works but maybe we can use one of my abilities to create that barrier into a repellant," Princess Margaux suggested.
"If that is the case, then do it!" Elaina encouraged the Princess.
"Alright, stay still."
Princess Margaux held her palms to the barrier that is erected on Elaina’s surroundings and she poured a bit of her mana and all of a sudden, the barrier turned blue and all of the insects that were passing through effortlessly before has steered away from the barrier itself.
"Looks like it is working," Elaina nodded before she slowly went to the new plant that is in their view.
The Harvest Goddess was surprised when she now noticed the plant that Elaina is currently approaching to.
"I didn’t notice that plant before. Was that the main reason for all of this?"
Elaina didn’t answer and instead, she head over to the precious rocks that are growing as fruits and plucked them off the plant one by one. As soon as the final fruit was removed from the plant, the plant itself disintegrated and a seed similar to the seed that Elaina found before in the mines dropped before Elaina.
And with the disintegration of the plant, the insects, birds and the sweet smell that was lingering around the farm disappeared like it didn’t happen in the first place.
