Chapter 269: End of the Year Celebration [I]

The winter might be over but the year has yet to arrive its conclusion. And today is the day of that conclusion. A month passed by in a flash and the current year is about to end and welcome the new year. Like many other kingdoms and places around the world, Darcero Kingdom also celebrates the upcoming end of the year as this also signifies the end of the brutal winter. Usually, people celebrate this event with spectacular events that they can enjoy watching, fun entertainment for the masses that they can join in, and various grand and delicious food that signifies the end of saving up food for a whole season.

Winter might have ended, but the celebration must go on. Since there were no official events held after the final day of winter due to the repairs and casualties that needed tending, the celebration was delayed but it was never canceled.

However, compared to the previous celebration, the kingdom decided that the people of the kingdom could celebrate in their own way. Because of the damages that happened, the kingdom knew that they would be tight on money. Even the royal family is not able to provide any fun activities for this year, but they do have a planned mooncake distribution that will be held in every plaza of cities and towns.

Thankfully, it seems the citizens also understand that the royal family is also not in a good state. With the number of casualties they have to help and they also volunteered to help with the repairs of every damage that was done during the winter season, their money is not great for throwing big parties and even if they do proceed with a party, not all people can celebrate which is why they decided with this approach instead.

Elaina has received the news as well and compared to the people who received damages in their places, Elaina already had the house repaired with Jacob’s help who was also building the new building so she is not that much troubled with the situation.

While everyone, including the workers, will be celebrating with Elaina, Princess Margaux cannot join. Princess Tabatha escorted her this morning back to the palace, as they would be having their own celebration with the family. Although she wanted to celebrate the occasion with everyone, she preferred to do it with her family, so she left with her sister. She will be back once the new year arrives, though.

Right now, Elaina is busy preparing for the little party she will hold with her friends and family. It isn’t grandiose like the type of parties that she organized back when she was still the empress, but she is making sure that she will be making a party that will satisfy everyone.

Since her stock during winter has yet to be depleted, Elaina decided that she will be using those as ingredients for the party.

As much as Elaina wanted to start cooking, she is not yet a master of it and decided to have Douglas and Margold handle the cooking as they were also invited and volunteered to help out. They also decided to have the party be joined together and so this makes Elaina’s job much easier.

"Are you sure about this Marigold? I was planning on having a decent celebration with both friends and family though and considering how good your husband cooks, there is no way this is just a decent celebration but a full-scale celebration at this point!" Elaina felt embarrassed as she felt like she was just riding on the skills and effort that Douglas was making.

"Don’t worry, Elaina my dear. A celebration like this should always be a full-scale celebration. Surviving that very harsh winter is already a feat that no other kingdom can survive and living to tell the tale is warrant enough to have a fancy celebration with fancy and delicious meals on board. So why worry about having a fancy party? It is a good way to show that even in your small ways, you are enjoying your life just fine. And besides, why get embarrassed? You might not be my grandchild or daughter Elaina, but you are someone I already treated as one. Don’t be shy about receiving things like this."

Elaina smiled shyly hearing this. She might not be her mother but she feels more like one than her original mother and she is not even always there for Elaina since she is also living her own life as well but she feels more comfortable with Marigold with the feeling that is like she was being pampered by her mother since she was a kid. A foreign feeling that Elaina loved.

"Anyways, we will borrow a few spaces from your farm alright? We will be cooking outside for a good atmosphere and for a good way to show off to everyone as well. That way, we don’t need to cramp inside the farmhouse."

Elaina nodded. She also agrees to have the cooking process to be done outside. With how most of the food they will be cooking later is composed of meat, there will be a lot of cooking that involves grilling stuff and the better place to grill one is outside.

After her discussion with Marigold, Elaina returned home so that she could start preparing for the cooking process. It won’t take too long though, as Elaina has the tools necessary to start an outside cooking station. The only thing that she needed left to do was to have them assembled outside and bring every necessary utensil for the cooking.

By the time Elaina arrives, her grandfather is already setting up the whole grill outside and is readying a station for cooking meat alone. Since he liked to cook meat back when he was the acting Hero, he is very much an expert in that category.

"Grandpa! I am glad you made it! I thought you would be busy on the guild even at this time of the year," Elaina proceeded to hug her grandfather who happily hugged her back.

"Of course, we made time for our granddaughter. And besides, it is more fun to celebrate things with family and close friends. And since we had a lot of fun during the last time, it is a great opportunity to hang out with the others again."

Elaina almost forgot that her grandpa managed to make friends with the Feys and the Harvest Goddess back when they celebrated the brutal winter’s end. It seems he enjoyed their company more than when he was in his job as an adventurer.

"By the way, where is grandma?"

"Ah, if you are looking for her, she is currently with your kids. I heard her say something earlier but because I was busy, I couldn’t respond. Since she didn’t complain, I must assume that she is just fine and she might have been not talking to me but to the others. But who knows? Go and check her out. Quickly tell me if she is talking to me or not so that I am not screwed in case I purposefully heard her wrong."

Elaina smiled before she headed inside the farmhouse. But what she saw inside was something she didn’t expect.

"E-Elaina, Adelaide is already talking and walking on her own! What is happening?" her grandma asked as she turned her attention to Adelaide.

"Adelaide?"

"Mom? You are back!"

Elaina almost choked on her saliva after she saw Adelaide walk with her two feet and talk like a six-year-old kid. She knew her kid was kind of an advanced one, but she didn’t think she would be this Advanced.
