Chapter 249: Farm Defense [II]

Elaina’s plan for her life as a single mother would be to farm leisurely at home, take care of her kids, and raise livestock and crops to get by, away from all the chaos and troubles that royalty has every day.

She just didn’t expect that things would escalate this far. Is it because she has bad luck in this matter? Is escaping to another kingdom and living on a farm so discouraged that this alone is troublesome already? She is not sure, but she doesn’t care, as long as her kids are safe from the dangers of the kingdom and their father, everything is fine.

And even today, facing a horde of monsters threatening to destroy her farm, she does not falter that easily.

"Julia, I trust you with my back on this one."

"Same thing here, Sis!"

They are getting ready when Elaina receives a message from the God of Farming.

"[Elaina, I made a temporary page in your almanac to summon plants that handle Garden defense. Remember those plants that will attack intruders? I allow you to temporarily use them and grow them until the end of the battle. They are not really that great at handling all of them without the help of you and your companion, but they should be enough to handle at least a few of them without letting you get overwhelmed.]"

Elaina’s eyes sparkled when she heard of this. She opened her almanac and indeed, a new page appeared. The pictures of the plants that can be deployed are present and can be planted anywhere around the farm to help out with the defense.

"They might not be that good for battle, but they should be enough to help fight these monsters with ease."

She taps on the picture of the Gunflowers and proceeds to summon them around the farm. One sprouts out near them and appears as a fully grown Gunflower. It is much bigger than the Gunflower that Elaina planted over at the entrance. Perhaps because that one was still not fully matured and fully grown, it wasn’t that big compared to this Gunflower summoned.

"What the? A gunflower? How did it..." Julia frowned but then looked at Elaina.

"Don’t worry about this, Julia. It’s a temporary one and will only last until we are done with the battle. Get ready, despite these Gunflowers, they are not enough to whittle the numbers of the Snow Men. We still have to do the hard work ourselves. They will buy enough time for us to not get too overwhelmed in the process."

"As expected, of Sister! Alright, let’s rock!" Julia assumed a combat position. Since their enemies are made of ice, the best element to use and deal with these monsters is none other than fire. Channeling her mana in her body, she prepares to use her abilities to raise the usability of fire magic.

As the Snow Men get closer, Julia opens fire as she gestures both her fingers into finger guns and proceeds to shoot projectiles covered in flames and attack all the Snow Men that get close.

Once the Snow Men that got struck by the projectiles that Julia fired staggers and lowers its flight, Elaina quickly closes in for the kill, stabs the Snow Man she is targeting in the chest and proceeds to rip it apart.

"If only ripping off their cores from their chest is enough," Elaina grumbled but then realized something.

"Julia!"

"Sis?"

"Shoot this!"

Elaina then throws the core into the air, high enough to reach the flying Snow Men in the air. Julia did not waste her time and she shot the falling core, causing it to explode in the air.

BOOOM!

As soon as the explosion occurred, the surrounding Snow Men that flocked earlier were damaged and got hit by the damage of the core. Despite being made from ice, the Snow Men are still vulnerable to the core’s explosion.

Seeing the result, Elaina grinned.

"Julia, it seems we have a new way of whittling the monsters without wasting too many resources."

Both of them smiled and knew what to do next.

Elaina jumped into the air and sliced open the nearest Snow Man with her sword, revealing its core. Ripping the core out of its chest in one go, Elaina then throws the core into the air and lets Julia handle the rest.

The summoned Gunflowers are also doing their work. It isn’t that much more effective than the work that Elaina and Julia are doing but their attacks are enough to deter and stop a few of the Snow Men from totally overwhelming both girls with more problems.

Of course, the Snow Men are not in a slouch either. They are actively attacking both Julia and Elaina but the two girls are also actively defending themselves from their attacks. As for the Gunflowers, they are being killed one by one by the icicles but another one will pop out as Elaina summons them every time they get killed.

Despite their work of whittling their numbers and killing them one by one, the numbers of Snow Men seem to be not ending at all and Elaina’s energy is not infinite even with her managing to remove all of the fatigue in her body earlier from the hot spring. Looking at Julia, even though she is still holding on, the fatigue accumulating on her body is already showing through her face and her breathing is getting heavy as well.

"Julia, are you alright? Don’t push yourself too much."

"*wheeze* I am fine... *wheeze*, I can still fight."

"Don’t push yourself too much, Julia. I know you are getting tired. Go and rest on the side for a bit and get back in here once you are good to go. I shall handle this for now," Elaina offered. Although it will be hard, she can handle things for a while with the help of the Gunflowers. She can’t afford to overwork Julia so hard especially since according to her, if she gets low on mana, the headache is worse than a regular headache.

"*wheeze* N-no Sis! I can still do this!" Julia insists.

Elaina sighed. "Alright. But as I said before, don’t force yourself. If you feel like your mana is running out, go and rest. Don’t just keep pushing yourself."

Julia nodded. Despite looking haggard, she continues to fight.

But looking at the situation, even with their prowess at killing the Snow Men at a fast pace, the number of Snow Men seems to double the more they kill monsters. Even she can feel her limit approaching as well.

But she can’t just give up. Not when she had all the people behind her she needed to protect and the farm itself.

"I can’t just fall here."

As she thought of all the consequences of losing here, all of a sudden, the Snow Men that flocked the area before suddenly exploded mid-air and scattered like dust. The two weary fighters were surprised as they didn’t do anything for them to explode to pieces. But then...

A few gunshots can be heard near them and a figure clad in black appeared with a few people in tow behind him.

"Miss Elaina! Backup has arrived!"

Duke Darcy announced as the group decimated through the gathering monsters. Among the group is her Grandpa and Grandma, holding their weapons that they used before when they were still in their prime.
