Chapter 248: Farm Defense [I]

"What is going on?!" Elaina quickly gripped her katana as she rushed towards the battlefield which was in front of her house.

There, she saw both the Harvest Goddess and Julia fighting against the Snow Men. Julia currently pummeling one to death with her flaming hands while the Harvest Goddess is restraining the rest with her vines and is pulling their limbs forcefully.

Seeing that both were too preoccupied even to answer her, Elaina pulled out her sword and proceeded to slice the restrained Ice Men revealing their cores which Elaina preemptively grabbed one by one and threw into the air before she proceeded to slice them mid-air.

SWISH!

Before the cores reach the ground, they explode to pieces mid-air, scattering their freezing powers to the surroundings. But it wasn’t as dangerous as destroying the core in close quarters. But the surroundings start to freeze.

The Harvest Goddess has to retreat as her plants start to freeze solid slowly

Julia rips out the core after beating the Snow Man she was fighting and throws it in the air just like Elaina did. But she threw it much farther into the air, way up than the distance the cores were thrown by Elaina earlier.

FWOOM!

A swirling flame appeared on Julia’s fingertips before a small bullet-like projectile was sent into the air, straight to where the core she had thrown just now.

BOOM!

Despite the attack being a flame attribute, it wasn’t capable of fully stopping the explosion of ice and it still caused a minor freeze and covered the roof of the farmhouse with ice.

"You guys alright?" Elaina asked the two as they finally got the time to talk.

"Yeah. We are fine. Aside from a few scratches here and there, no visible damage so far," Julia signed in relief.

"Same here. Your timely arrival is fortunate enough for us to deliver the final blow of those enemies quickly, " the Harvest Goddess said as she gasped for breath.

"Are you alright?" Elaina looks concerned seeing the state of the Harvest Goddess.

"I am fine. Just exhausted, that’s all."

Despite saying she is fine, she does look exhausted and drained.

"We should get inside for now. Being outside might be the one causing this entire problem in your physique."

The Harvest Goddess did not argue like usual and instead agreed with Elaina’s suggestion. They entered the farmhouse again.

Elaina can see the damage the monsters did to her house’s exterior. With the huge icicles sticking out from the walls and her door and windows broken beyond recognition, she will have to ask Jacob once again for repairs.

Before they could enter, Princess Margaux suddenly appeared in the doorway with a grave expression on her face.

"Everyone, a huge number of Snow Men are approaching the farm as we speak! They are rapidly closing in!"

Elaina frowned and did not like the sound of it. One Snow Man is already annoying to deal with and yet multiple of them are coming to meet and greet everyone?

"This is ridiculous, why are they attacking our farm?!" Elaina is furious and gets her sword ready.

"Miss Elaina, it’s not just the farm currently being attacked. I can also detect more of those monsters entering the town and city. This is a large-scale attack!" Princess Margaux revealed.

Elaina is not surprised anymore. With how many Snow Men sightings lately, it is bound to happen. She just didn’t know that it would happen today.

"[Elaina, be careful. Even if the Ice Lord is dead, we still don’t know who succeeded his powers. If this is his or her way of weakening the inhabitants of that kingdom, then that must mean it is indeed working.] The God of Farming said.

"What about the trees? It’s not fully ready yet and we have barely done all of them supplied with the mana stones." Elaina is concerned. She has yet to supply all four trees with any mana stones as she is still hoarding them and planning to supply them in one go."

"[Although I am not sure about the trees if the mana stones you collected should be enough if it ever lacks enough power, we gods will contribute and fill the gap. Knowing the Ice Lord is gone, having our powers well known to those trees will be something they will least expect to see. For now, focus on defending the farm. I will pitch in with the defenses as well, but they will be temporary measures and will disappear once the battle is concluded.]"

"Got it, thanks for the assist."

"[As much as we wanted to pitch in, our abilities are not something we can apply to help with the battle, but we will cheer for all of you guys.]" the Goddess of Taming said.

Elaina nodded. She knew that aside from the God of Farming, the other gods were not capable of even providing support that would help in defending the farm. Still, as long as there is one help from the gods, then that alone is enough. A help is a help after all.

After treating the wounds of both Julia and the Harvest Goddess, Princess Margaux frowned.

"They are here, Miss Elaina. A lot of them are now approaching the field."

Elaina turned to the Harvest Goddess.

"Harvest Goddess, can you do the same barrier as before that you used when the Merfolk attacked?"

"I can. But is that okay? After all, I can’t fight if that barrier is active."

"Don’t worry. We should be fine." Preparing to defend the farm should work. Can you do it with the animals as well? Don’t worry, if you can’t do it, just focus on the house."

The Harvest Goddess paled when she heard Elaina’s request but she nodded. "I can still do that but it will be hard to control and the defense walls will be much more brittle compared to the walls before. After all, I will be focusing the control on multiple barriers."

"That should be fine. As long as it should work, that is fantastic enough."

Julia went to Elaina’s side. "Sis, is the two of us going to be enough to defend the whole farm?"

"In theory, it should be hard for us to do, but we should be able to do it for a bit."

Julia nodded with a grin. "Hehe, this will be the first time the two of us will be fighting together like this, Sis."

Elaina smiled, "Yes. Now that is what I call development."

The two then stepped out of the house and as soon as they were out of the house’s range a barrier made of vines appeared to consume the whole house, coop, and the fence where the Wild Cows were being kept, encasing them with the vines.

And as soon as those vines appeared, the Snow Men also arrived, plummeting the whole area’s temperature. Despite that, the two is unperturbed, with one being immune from the effects and the other having donned the buff to reduce the effects of the cold.

"Get your game on, Sis," Julia said as she covered her fists in flames.

Gripping the hilt of her sword and holding her scabbard tightly, Elaina nodded. "Always has been ready."

The Defense is about to begin.
