Chapter 228: Last Hope of the Fairy Race [I]

The abnormal winter. One of the things that made the weather pretty abnormal was the amount of snow during a regular snowfall. It is achievable if it is a blizzard or heavy snowstorm but they would require almost a few hours to an entire day before they can achieve this much snow. In the current snowfall in the Darcero Kingdom, only a few hours would be capable of burying the entire town in the snow if not regularly cleaned up.

This alone is a sign of abnormal weather but Elaina didn’t think about it too much as she didn’t know that things would be really different right now. Since the God of Farming insists that the weather forecast in the Almanac is accurate, then why is there a snowstorm when it should be sunny? It is even stated in the Almanac that there will be no signs of snowfall that will happen that day and yet, here they are.

"Something is afoot, eh? No wonder this place’s winter feels so different from the other places. And here I thought the winter is just more brutal compared to others but something else entirely is causing disturbances that are not supposed to be happening huh?" the Harvest Goddess shook her head.

"Right, you have been living in this land for many years, right? Is it like this since the very beginning?"

"Not really. Things have been more brutal since 10 years ago but before, it was like a regular winter with nothing too special to think about. But if I could choose which kind of winter I want, I want the old one better. This one is too debilitating for my own good!" the Harvest Goddess shook her head.

Elaina then remembered the monster that she fought back. The one that froze the whole area quite a bit after she defeated it. The Gods said that those creatures have been extinct but seeing one, right now with a weather this bad must mean something and their current appearance was not just mere coincidence.

Mentally taking notes on the current weather, Elaina will have to ask for more information about the situation and unnatural weather and check the records on why no one has thought the weather has undergone a massive change. There is no way people in the Darcero Kingdom just accepted everything and convinced themselves that this was just a new change in the weather.

"From the looks of it, you are going to dig deeper on this one, Elaina?" the Harvest Goddess grinned.

"Do you even have to ask? You don’t even like this weather in the first place. You should at least be supportive of me about this."

"Oh no, don’t get me wrong, I support you in this endeavor of solving the weather’s abnormal phenomena. It’s just that you needed more manpower and capability than this. Having to bury yourself on this work alone is not a good idea."

"No worries. I don’t want to work by myself either. The more people learning this weather is abnormal, the better. They have to wake up from this torture and check out why this is just bad news."

"Oho, good. No worries. Although I can’t physically help you with this task, I will also gather some information with me and relay it to you in the winter. I have some observations here and there not too long ago. Perhaps you will gain some insights into what I have noticed back then and piece in all the puzzles to this mystery."

Elaina smiled hearing that. It is good to know that even if she is a goddess, she has some idea of how to help. Her notes can be of use as long as the observations are something she will indeed link to the current weather change. And since she said that those observations were from years ago, there must be something she has noticed while observing in the past. After all, she was not a farmer just yet.

After letting the two settle into their rooms, the others have also started waking up but like usual, they just started gathering the fireplace and staying there before breakfast. Elaina can’t blame them. Even with the heaters and the chimney, the weather is just too much and is quite freezing indeed.

While she was about to finish her preparations for breakfast, another knock was heard outside. It isn’t as loud as the knocks from the Harvest Goddess and Alessa, but it is much lighter knocks than she had expected.

"It’s open, come in."

"Boss, it’s us! Can you please open the door? It’s a bit heavy for us to even open!" the voice from the outside shouted.

Elaina recognizes that voice as the voice of Bam. She frowned on why they were currently knocking. Do they have something to tell her or are they also evacuating as well? Perhaps the latter as the weather is just too much.

Since they cannot open the door, Elaina has to personally open the door and she is surprised when not only the shivering Fey Family enters but also Pixie who is clutching on something.

"Oh? Pixie? Why are you here? I thought you were still cultivating the seed?" Elaina frowned.

"Boss! She doesn’t need to cultivate it any further! Brr... it’s so cold.

.. She has succeeded in the process and is here to show it to you!" Bam said as she nudged the little fairy to come close.

"Uh, boss. The seed of the lotus is now ready. Can you take a good look?"

Pixie then relinquishes what she was clutching since entering and revealing the seed of a lotus that no longer resembles the original seed she had given before. The seed before her is now golden sparkling and full of life. It is now linked to the word "Magical" with how it is emitting rainbow color effects while she is showing it.

Holding it and opening the Almanac, a new entry of the seed suddenly appeared on one of the pages of the book. It is one of the pages that are new after the upgrade of the book that has not properly materialized before.

"Ancient Seeds?" Elaina read the label that was currently segregating the lotus seed with the other seeds and it is labeled as one.

She flipped the other pages and she realized that there were a few more than she thought and one of the pages had the information of the seed that Pixie had given and another seed that her grandfather had given. The mysterious seed that came from the dungeon.

Regardless of how much Elaina wanted to read the entry of the other seed, Elaina wanted to know more about the current seed that she was holding. But first, she will have to ask Pixie about it more as she is holding this seed more, she must have more idea of what this one is about.

"Congrats on the seed. I believed in you and you have succeeded, see? You shouldn’t end everything with an "I can’t do it" mindset. Believe and you will be given the courage to fight your fate, indeed."

Pixie blushed but she nodded in response as she now understood what Elaina had said before after realizing the end result of the lotus seed.

"Since you have given this to me, you wanted me to plant this now and cultivate it?" Elaina asked.

"If possible, yes."

Elaina scratched her head and looked out the window.

"It’s possible but during the beginning, I will have to prolong its growth for a while since it is winter. I don’t want this seed to be dead while I am trying to grow this one. I know you have made a lot of effort to make this seed so I can’t just randomly do it like it is a seed that can just be disposed of if it doesn’t work right."

"You don’t have to worry boss. After I cultivated this seed, I gained the memories of my ancestors and all of the necessary things needed to cultivate the seed properly and let it germinate. It was like the last attempt of my kin to keep the hope of the Fairy Race alive," Pixie said herself and glanced at the seed in Elaina’s hands.

Hearing this, Elaina smiled. "That is good to know, Pixie. If the information on how to grow this seed is currently ingrained in your memories by the ancestors, that must mean you do know the method on how this seed works and how it should be handled for better growth and better survivability?"

"Yes. According to my memories, it is possible to be planted in areas where water is frozen or not as the seed does not get affected by the weather at all. It gathers the mana in the surroundings but while that happens, the one who grows the seeds should be prepared all the time and help it regulate to ensure the seed will become the great lotus it will become and allow it to manifest its capabilities that will give birth to the new fairies."

Elaina can tell. This is a new territory she will be stepping into, but she doesn’t want to avoid it. She needed to know and experience how to cultivate something that no human has done before! And the first step is for her to help the return of the Fairy Race by cultivating this seed.
