Chapter 227: Abnormal Weather

The next day, Elaina came out of her room still sleepy. After her escapade yesterday and her job at dismantling a big carcass until late afternoon, her body is still aching a bit. She would still be asleep if not for the cries of Arthur which jerked her awake from slumber.

She isn’t mad that she was jolted awake as a result but she felt a bit groggy and she feel a bit messy.

"Might as well drink some hot milk to calm my head. Ugh, the cold doesn’t help either."

While shivering, Elaina headed to the living room, lit up the chimney to flames by tossing a flame gem to rekindle the half-burnt wood, and then headed to the kitchen to prepare some hot milk for herself.

She made sure to stay near the stove to relieve herself from the coldness that was starting to numb her fingers as soon as she went outside her room. She can see from the window that the snow is currently falling again which is causing the cold weather.

Elaina can only shake her head. "Why is it that it keeps on snowing? It was like it is happening for quite a while now and only stopping for one or two days before falling again in huge amounts."

The snowfall in the Darcero Kingdom is one of the heaviest she has seen in her life. She heard tales from the places where it is cold but according to some of them, it only happens whenever a blizzard suddenly sweeps the area. If there is none and only regular snowfall happens, it is just like regular rain.

But in Darcero Kingdom, regular snowfall is already equivalent to a normal blizzard which is a bit weird and a bit abnormal considering Darcero Kingdom is not even a cold place that is frozen solid.

As she continues to contemplate the abnormal weather of the Darcero Kingdom, the cow milk that is currently boiling in the kettle is reaching its heat point. Elaina prepared the mug she would be using the milk when she heard a knock on the door.

"It’s open. Come in."

"It’s open? Good. Let me in. We are shivering here," the door opened and three girls entered the doorway. One is a goddess, the other is a baby and the other is a merfolk.

"Excuse us for our intrusion, Miss Elaina," Alessa said with a slight bow as she entered the doorway with Mier in her hands.

"Ah...finally a warmer feeling..." The Harvest Goddess immediately headed over to the chimney and happily lay down on her belly on the carpet as she felt the heat helping her alleviate her cold body.

"You should wear something thick instead of wearing your regular clothes. I know that is your uniform but with this weather, maybe even a goddess will get a cold too you know? Anyways, you guys are welcome to chill out there. Make yourselves at home," Elaina said as she poured the hot milk into the mug.

"Don’t mind if I do!" the Harvest Goddess grinned as she rolled on the carpet trying to spread the heat of the chimney all over her body.

"I thought you guys would be stuck in the stream since the water has frozen up. I didn’t see you in a few while when I was offering the usual to the water," Elaina tilted her head as she looked at the Harvest Goddess.

"It was hard indeed but we managed so far. I just had to punch the ice hard and manage to break out quickly. It’s also bad since the water is freezing, and the surroundings of my realms are also starting to get colder as frustrating well. Having a regular chimney is hard as well since the smoke will have nowhere to go which is why we will be crashing here until winter."

"Ha...no wonder you guys are carrying some luggage," Elaina said as she glanced over the packages currently encased in plant magic.

"We are sorry for not saying in advance, girl. We just busted out from the ice quite literally earlier and we just rushed out instead of getting frozen as a result. We will just come back once winter is over," the Harvest Goddess said.

Elaina sighed and nodded. "Fine. You guys can use the rooms on the second floor. But there is no heater there just yet so I will be going to the market to buy an additional two," Elaina scratches her head.

"Oh, no need. I have two relics that we can use as an alternative for the heater. We can’t use it on the realm right now as the freezing process is much stronger than the heater, making it hard for the heat to compete against the freezing process."

She then pulled out two weird relics that looked like the sun.

"Artificial Suns?" Elaina asked as they looked like one.

"What? No way. Those are big and they are not something I will just use as a regular heater. These are Heat Waves. They convert cold air into hot air, doing the same job as the heaters. It’s perfect for rooms which is why I decided to bring these two as an alternative to the heaters. Don’t worry, I may be some kind of lazy bum to your eyes but I can still do the bare minimum!"

Elaina chuckled. "At least you recognize yourself as some sort of bum. But do you always evacuate every winter?"

The Harvest Goddess shook her head. "No. Before, these heat waves could handle the cold just fine. Now, it is hard for the Heat Wave to even compete. The only times I decided to evacuate was during a cold frigid weather that froze most of the waters of the stream in the past. I used the rickety farmhouse before to shield myself from the harsh weather in the past. Thankfully, it is not happening like before but the weather right now is still pretty brutal."

Elaina agrees with the Harvest Goddess’s comment. The weather is abnormal indeed. This is just too much snow for a place that is not part of a natural frozen place.

Then, something sparked in Elaina’s mind. She snapped her fingers and the Almanac came out. Since the Almanac has a weather forecast, she needed to ensure that she would see sunny days tomorrow and in the next few days.

But as soon as she checked, her eyebrows furrowed as she looked at the forecasted weather.

"There are only a few instances where that have the weather in snowfall...and those days are only at the beginning of winter, next week and in a few more days after next week. The rest of the days...are all sunny..."

The Harvest Goddess overheard Elaina mutter things about the weather.

"Hey, hey. Are you telling the truth?" she asked as she looked at the Almanac in front of Elaina.

"You also can see the Almanac?"

"Before, I can’t. But now, I can see it fine. Ever since the "upgrade" of the Almanac happened, I can finally see what your blessing is and it was this green book floating in the air. I guess my status has also elevated a bit after quite a while as well thanks to your help."

"Does Alessa see this as well?"

"Nope. She hasn’t received any blessings related to the God of Farming or something from my blessings that would allow her to see the book. The only one who can see it is you and me at the moment. But anyways, are you sure the weather forecast in this book is accurate?"

Elaina scratches her head and decides to contact the God of Farming. Before she can say her piece, the Harvest Goddess is the one who sent him a message.

"Hey, boss! Can you tell us if your Almanac or whatever this thing is called had its weather forecast pretty accurate?"

"[Your voice is pretty loud, Harvest Goddess. Tone it down for a while as you are disturbing the peaceful place."

"Never mind my voice! Tell us if this weather forecast is as accurate as we think it should be!"

"[It should be accurate. I have collaborated with the Goddess of Weather in making this forecast as accurate as possible so there is no way it is not accurate.]"

Hearing that, Elaina decided to join in. "If that is the case, how come the forecast here tells that it is sunny but what is happening outside is not the same thing. It is currently snowing hard outside without any signs of the sun even showing."

"[What?]" the God of Farming then checked the forecasted weather and just like the forecast had said, it was indeed sunny and there wouldn’t be any snowfall happening. He then checked the weather currently happening over at the area where Elaina is and frowned as he soon relayed his findings.

"[...It seems I found the reason why the weather is not the same as the forecasted...]"

"It’s wrong right?" the Harvest Goddess predicted.

"[No. The weather forecast is indeed correct. The problem is that the current snowfall is not being done naturally. It is currently being done by something that can change the weather. It shouldn’t be snowing right now.]"
