Chapter 191: Mysterious Artifact Part
"Are you sure about this Grandpa?! This is a bit expensive for you to pay."
"Hahaha, nonsense, Elaina. Why do you think I bought you this one? Because I can afford it and it’s not like this item will not be used, no? I heard from Troy that you are interested in fishing nowadays and only stopped when your belly has become big and sensitive. Might as well give you a chance to have something like that. And besides, I have not spoiled you enough when you were still a kid, so how about now? Am I too late to do anything like this?"
"N-no, not really. It’s just that..."
"Shush, just take it. It’s a good gadget and I can see you using that to its full potential. Might as well have it in your arsenal."
Elaina couldn’t stop her grandpa about it and he paid the Speargun in full. After packing it up, Julia put it inside the Storage bag that they keep as lugging it around would be annoying especially now that it is inside a box.
"Have you bought everything we needed?" Grandma asked.
"Sure enough. Troy is keeping it in his storage bag just like what little Julia is doing. Plenty of stuff to buy that if I didn’t stop, I might have bought too much," Granpa said and patted the little bag that Troy is currently wearing.
"If that is the case, then where should we go next? Elaina? Do you still want to explore around?" Grandma asked Elaina.
"I am still good to go around. Let’s check around a bit more," Elaina nodded. Besides she is interested in some of the things being sold there. It’s rare for her to see things like that from time to time and this is also a good chance for her to discover something that she might have some interest in.
With the group together, they continue to stroll around the stalls. Troy and Julia go around the stalls that sell food and buy a few for the entire group to eat while walking. It’s also exhausting just browsing around so having to eat something while checking out stalls is a good thing.
As they were exploring, The God of Farming suddenly interjected and gave Elaina a quick message.
"[Elaina, can you go and check over to the group of people on your left? It seems they are selling something.]" the God of Farming messaged.
Reading that, Elaina turned her attention to the side where she saw a group of both bystanders and customers currently standing around and seemingly watching something.
"Hey, about we go there next?" Elaina pointed over to the group.
With Elaina pointing out their next destination, they soon arrived at whatever the bystanders were looking for.
"Come and have a look at these mystery goods we are currently selling. These things are legitimate and are already been tested by several officials who hold titles in their respective groups."
The announcer then levitates a few papers for the bystanders to see that those papers are licenses and proof that he wasn’t lying.
"Well, well, it seems a mini-auction is being held today. We might be lucky to find a few rare things here. Let’s stay and check this one out," Granpa grinned.
"Oh, how nostalgic. So this thing has been going on even now? Didn’t expect the tradition to continue," Grandma smiled and seemed to be reminiscing about seeing the event.
"Did this mini-auction happen often?" Troy asked.
"Nope. It is a very rare thing to happen but if it does, this is a very good way for anyone to obtain a rare piece of item that they might or might not need in their lives. You can say it is some sort of a gamble," Grandpa explained.
"I got a Mythril ore from a random piece of geode sold in this particular mini-auction back then and I got it cheap which is what I used to create the staff that I still use today."
"[It seems that what your Grandma said is right. I detect something that can help in your farming operations that are being sold there. Might as well try to take and buy that for ourselves.]" the God of Farming demanded.
"But this is a mini-auction. My money is not enough to compete with the people who might be buying in this little auction!" Elaina protested. Compared to the speargun where she can haggle for the price, this one is not easy as an auction can get really crikey in price hikes due to the demand and bidding process. If they can outbid the enemy customer, then it is their win, and vice versa.
"[I am not demanding that you obtain the item that can help you with but just try to win it here. Who knows? Maybe you will get it cheap.]"
Then, as Elaina and the God of Farming continue their discussion, the guy who is currently spreading the word about the mini-auction has finally begun. From the looks of it, it seems that the customers are just the bystanders who are watching and it isn’t similar to how real auctions held in auction houses works.
"Alright. For those who want to bid, please raise your hand and we will begin the auction. For starters, we will begin with the less likely to be useful. If no one will be buying this, we will be shelving this one and we will proceed to the next item."
He snapped his fingers and a few men appeared behind him carrying a big but rusty piece of metal that looked like a fork or a comb. It’s pretty rusty so it isn’t that appealing to see.
"This is a mysterious artifact that was unearthed in one of the lost dimension dungeons existing in the nearby continent. Based on the studies conducted, it seems to be part of some big machinery that has not yet been identified. However, because this was only a part, this thing is not functional on its own. Great for collectors and those who want to sell it for scraps. Starting with 200 gold."
"[Go for that, Elaina! That’s the one! It’s a rusty harvester!]" the God of Farming is excited seeing the part being sold.
Hearing this, Elaina didn’t bid immediately and looked around. Even her grandparents are not bidding which means no one is interested. This is a good tactic in auctions that sell items that seem to have no prospective buyers as there are times that the price will drop or just remain in the starting price.
"No one is gonna bid on this? We will drop the price to 100. Anyone?"
Seeing that no one is going to bid, the auctioneer seems ready to withdraw the item when his eyes spot Elaina raising her hands.
"Alright, 100! Anyone else?"
Seeing that no one else is bidding, he immediately ends the bid.
"Going once, going twice! Congratulations ma’am! The artifact is now yours! Please proceed behind the stage to process the payment and the retrieval of the item."
"Is that the item?" Elaina is not convinced considering the rusty look of the item.
"[Indeed. Who would have thought that this item would appear here? With this part on your property, we can ask the God of Machinery to rebuild this item and make it functional again.]"
