Chapter 167: The Power of Garden Guardians
The revelation still made Elaina shocked. She thought it would be a different person currently putting himself on illusion for everyone to see and not the other way around where the late baron himself was the little baron that is currently being praised.
"Unbelievable... But the late baron should be dead... the kingdom even saw his burial rite so there is no way this little baron is the late baron himself disguising as a... " That’s when Princess Tabatha stopped and suddenly thought something. "Wait... It is indeed possible. It’s slim, but possible."
Princess Tabatha seems to have sparked some life in Princess Margaux’s lifeless eyes after hearing this come from her mouth without the words of Elaina even swaying her.
"So you think so, as well, Princess?" Elaina smiled.
Princess Tabatha nodded. "Yes. I have heard of some rumors that the sickness and death of the late baron seem to be so unusual. He just looked old but he wasn’t anywhere near death. And his sickness was never totally disclosed to the public on what it was. So even the cause of death is very vague. And regarding this matter of him disguising as a young man, he must have orchestrated something like this ever since the beginning."
Elaina nodded. "I have heard of that kind of case before but never thought I would see it again like this."
"You have experienced this kind of scenario in the past, Master?" Princess Tabatha asked.
"Yes. Back when I was still an empress. It is quite disgusting and even downright deceitful indeed. The only thing different is that he did it just so he could take his money with him without being divided into his family after his death. He used some sort of forbidden magic to extend his life used his illusion magic to hide the real truth and disguised himself as a young kid known to be an illegitimate son of the late baron. Because his original wife didn’t have a son, all of his riches would be left behind to his wife which he detests since she can’t even get pregnant with an heir. As a result, he used this method to ensure that he would not be sharing his money with his wife," Elaina explained.
"Perhaps this baron himself is also the same case? After all, if he died, his property would be donated to the royalty and the public. Perhaps he realized that if he died, he wouldn’t be able to do anything with his money and he decided to do something with it, using this method to escape?" Princess Tabatha guessed.
This time, the one who answered was Julia who was just listening to their conversation on the side. "Or maybe, he just wanted to restart. And to "end" his previous life is to have him "die" and end his past story. And once he "dies", he can live to his "new life" and live it to the very beginning?"
When Elaina and Princess Tabatha heard that, both frowned as soon as they realized that what Julia said might be the closest truth to this matter.
"A full restart. That is indeed possible. And the fact that he is making the first moves on Princess Margaux himself, might be one of his first moves as a "young man" after he settled down his business after his "death." It doesn’t feel so far-fetched right?" Elaina looked at the two princesses.
Princess Tabatha angrily slams her fists to the table. "That’s disgusting! He should be disgusted with himself for targeting someone younger than him! And it was my sister of all people?!"
"Haa...disgusting indeed. Just because he has been able to "restart" didn’t mean he managed to reincarnate and transfer his soul to a younger body. That, perhaps might be a different thing since he is still technically "young" in the body. But this "young" look of him is just an illusion to hide his old look and lie about his real age. He is still disgusting regardless."
Princess Tabatha soon understood why Princess Margaux felt threatened and disgusted after seeing through his illusion. Even she would not have been able to hold back and attack the old baron himself if she had been present at that time.
Seeing her sister shaking, Princess Tabatha hugged Princess Margaux and squeezed her hands tight as she whispered in her ear. "Don’t worry, dear sister. You are now safe. I will not let that old man try to take you away and marry you to him. Not at all."
Hearing this, Elaina smiled and nodded. "You can stay here in the meantime, Princess Tabatha. Having someone for Princess Margaux to sleep with during her time of trauma is necessary for her to recover and fully forget what she saw that day."
"I appreciate it, Master. I will also ask my soldiers to guard the perimeter of the farm as well for any sort of enemies lurking around. We don’t want more things that would cause problems for my sister and let her trauma be fueled more."
Elaina nodded. She also consoled Princess Margaux who finally seemed to get to recover slightly from the trauma.
As the two were now climbing upstairs, Julia approached Elaina.
"Sis, I just came back outside after doing some of the farm work like cleaning the coop. I needed to report on one of the things I have seen after checking out the other plants we planted."
"Other plants we planted?" Elaina frowned.
"Have you forgotten? The one you said to be called Garden Guardians. I just checked them out and from the looks of it, it seemed to have now started doing its normal operation."
Elaina had almost forgotten about them and after hearing that they had matured already, Elaina headed to the pots where they had planted the Garden Guardians, they had indeed matured and had already shown an attentive lookout. When they approached, the plants seemed to be happy after seeing them. It was like they were seeing their parents and were happy that they were checking up on them.
Elaina planted four of them in total. One Swordvine and one Gunflower are stationed on the main gate that covers the whole fence connected to the gate and the surrounding area, and another pair of Swordvine and Gunflower to the entrance that leads to the forest.
"These plants look weirdly cute for some reason, Sis. Still, I didn’t know you managed to nab seeds like this, Sis. Seeing seeds that are autonomous and capable of judgment is something I have yet to see before even in books."
Elaina can only smile wryly. She couldn’t say that it was one of the creations of the God of Farming and she bought it on the ledger. She still has no idea that these things are something she can just buy easily.
"I am still wondering though if they will work properly. They might be quite lively, but do they work properly before even activating both Zaza and Shardu?" Julia poked the Swordvine a bit and it only wiggled its "sword" and acted cute.
"We shall wait and see. It would be best for both Zaza and Shardu to rest a bit more. After getting injured, there’s no telling if there will be another attack that would cause trouble to them. All I want is for them to have a good time to rest more and recover from their previous injuries," Elaina said as she looked at both Shardu and Zaza sleeping on the patio.
After that, Elaina bid goodbye to Curaj who went home. Based on the reaction of the Garden Guardians, it seems they have already treated Curaj as a threat and allowed him to leave. He was surprised as well, but he didn’t say anything and just left.
As the sun sank into the horizon and darkness crept through the farm, the whole place became quiet immediately. However, it seems that not all night times are always safe and peaceful. That night, two men circled the farm. They wear cloaks as they adapt to the darkness and evade the guards that are guarding the perimeter.
"Is this the place that Princess has taken shelter for the time being?" the first cloaked man asked his partner.
"Yep. According to the intel, this is where she stayed for a few while when she had some misunderstanding with the king. Seeing all the guards we have to evade, I can say that they have chosen such a poor place to stay in. We would have had a harder time if it was on an inn or something but on a farm, this should be easy work for us."
The two grinned and started inspecting the surroundings and the fence.
"The fences are made of metal and were meant to be hard to climb but for us, this is easy to breach in."
The two didn’t even climb on the fences, they just jumped above the gate and easily entered the premises.
"Easily infiltrated!" the first guy grinned as he stood up and looked at his partner who was now dangling in the air as one vine was currently attacking him. He couldn’t scream or anything as the vines covered his mouth.
"BR-!" before he could call, he heard a click behind him, and before he could say something, a quiet bang stopped his line of thoughts.
After cleaning up the two intruders, the Garden Guardians then proceed to throw the two bodies straight outside the farm, where they landed right in front of the guards, guarding the perimeter while the two plants seemingly fistbump their leaves before going back to inactive mode.
