A Single Mother's Farm of the Gods
Chapter 166: Lies And Deception

Chapter 166: Lies And Deception

Princess Margaux seems tensed and cannot look at others directly. It was like she was afraid of looking at them directly and Elaina found it weird. She doesn’t have this problem before.

Elaina glanced at Princess Tabatha and from the looks of it, she would be the one who would be explaining all of what happened.

"So...can you tell me what exactly happened and what happened? I am exactly not sure what is going on, but I am quite sure that there is something that seems to be happening to Princess Margaux for her to become like this."

"Yes. I suppose a little explanation would indeed be best," she looked at Princess Margaux who remained to avert her eyes from the others.

"So where do we start?"

"Perhaps to the beginning but make it a bit shorter, just enough for us to understand the gist of it."

"Hmm, okay. Well, first, when my sister left this farm and returned to the castle, I was busy with some stuff in the market so I had to deal with it and I had to let my sister go alone for now. She also said that she would be fine as well since she would only be reconciling with Father and talking about their disagreements properly.

"But I have no idea that during that time, her supposed fiancee was already there, and waiting for Princess Margaux to arrive after he learned that she would be coming back. Because I was not there to help my sister, I was not immediately informed about this matter and even my sister had no idea about it either until she arrived. As a result, my sister and her fiancee finally meet face to face."

"So let me ask, just who was this fiancee of hers that she was not willing to even meet with him?" Elaina asked.

"Nah, my sister was not against having a fiancee, what she is against, is that she wanted to be the one who would choose her husband-to-be. But Father was not aware of that idea and just assigned one who was willing to be her husband. And this guy volunteered after he heard about the news that my sister was willing to accept her future fiancee.

"As for her fiancee, he was known as Baron Schweizer. Everyone knew him as the young baron due to his age which is the same age as my sister and he was said to be the successor to the former Baron Schweizer. We don’t know where he was before since we didn’t know Baron Schweizer had a son. We didn’t even know that she had a wife since all we know is that he became an old bachelor but when the former Baron was dying, he announced that the new Baron would be his successor and his son who would inherit both his name and title."

"I see now. So let me get this straight, the king isn’t the one who suggested it, but rather, this young baron himself?" Elaina frowned.

"Yes. He was even surprised since he hadn’t made it public yet that his daughter was looking for a fiancee, yet he already guessed it. However, because the young baron is qualified and quite remarkable for his young age, my Father took a liking to him and decided that he would be the perfect husband for her."

Elaina starts to piece together something. Elaina also finds it weird and creepy that this guy was able to guess and piece together that Princess Margaux is about to accept fiancee candidates without even hearing anything from the king just yet. And the arrival of Princess Margaux to discuss with her father about this matter, he was coincidentally there as well. Something fishy is going on but Elaina couldn’t pinpoint it just yet.

"There is indeed something strange happening but I don’t think it is enough for me to warrant it as strange just yet. Can you tell me about the whole meeting then? She met with her fiancee...then what happened?"

Princess Tabatha sighed. "I didn’t witness this, Master Elaina, all of what I am saying is what Margaux experienced and what she was telling me. So I can’t confirm the reality of her statements and if they are the real deal."

"That’s fine. You said that you are not there anyway, so I can tell that."

Princess Tabatha sighed and nodded before she started to continue.

"Since Margaux has no choice about this matter, she meets up with Father along with her future fiancee. From the very beginning, Margaux felt something bad was going to happen, and despite her intuition telling her to not go, she has no choice."

Elaina nodded. She almost forgot that Princess Margaux does have a very strong sixth sense and intuition. If she feels it is bad, it is indeed bad.

"Then, when she arrived, they both met with one another. Her fiancee is currently chatting with my father, the king himself waiting for her to arrive."

"Have you seen this young baron by any chance, Princess Tabatha?" Elaina asked.

"Yes. Just like what everyone says, he is young, but for some reason, he feels so much like an adult. It was like I was looking at the young version of the late baron despite not knowing what he looked like when he was still a child. But the young baron just exudes that feeling. And based on what he looks like, once he enters a legal age, he might be able to snatch the hearts of all women and become a young cassanova as a result."

"A young baron that looks like a normal kid, but acts like an adult..." Elaina is not yet sure but she is having some hunch.

"The moment my sister and his fiancee met, she froze and was about to bolt out of the door, ready to hide in her room. Although I am not sure why she wanted to do that, she can tell that the baron himself is someone that she should not marry. After that, my sister did not say anything anymore and just let the two continue to speak. As for her, she was too scared to even talk about it that she couldn’t say what she actually saw.

"After that meeting, before the Baron left, she said that he gave her a creepy smile before leaving. I am not sure what it was but after that, she begged Father to cancel the engagement and cancel the announcement. But unfortunately for her, it seems that is not possible since instead of engagement, Father said that the baron will now propose to her and marry her once she turns 16 and it is no longer possible to be broken as even the king has already gotten so many favors from the baron himself that denying him of his daughter would be a bit brutal for him. And that’s the gist of it. After that, my sister stayed for a few days in the castle, locked in her room while waiting for me to pick her back up."

"Whatever she saw there, must’ve traumatized Princess Margaux so deeply. She wouldn’t be like this if she didn’t see something traumatizing."

"But according to her, she can only tell it to you since you would believe her more compared to me."

"...what?" Elaina was surprised.

"Even I was surprised as well. I didn’t know that she would have more trust in you than me, her actual sister. However, considering what happened and her current state, I decided to bring her back here to also know what she saw there for her to refuse telling me."

Hearing this, Elaina approached Princess Margaux who is still shaking. She caressed her hair softly and looked at her who is still terrified.

"Princess, its me, Elaina. You need to calm down and tell me everything that happened. Can you tell me?"

"Would you believe me on everything that I will say?" Princess Margaux asked.

"Yes. I know you won’t lie so why would I not believe you? Don’t worry. So, what is going on?"

Princess Margaux gulped before she forced herself and decided to talk.

"Miss Elaina...please...help me convince father that I needed to break off my engagement and marriage with the baron."

"But why? Shouldn’t you be happy that someone of your age decided to volunteer? According to what your sister said about him, he was a handsome fellow."

"N-no...those were just a facade. He was lying about his age and he is decepting everyone who sees him as a young baron. That wasn’t the whole truth!"

"What are you talking about, Princess?"

"You see...before I left to the castle, I awakened to one skill of mine and it involves seeing through illusions and seeing the real deal. I can easily spot and point out illusions and whatnot without the need of breaking off those illusions and masking them off. I thought it would be useful if I get lost in the forest after being played tricks by some beings that we cannot see, but I never expected that it doesn’t just applies to that, but to any kinds of illusions as well."

Elaina finally pieced together everything and she finally got the idea of the main reason.

"When I meet my fiancee, the moment he looked at me, his illusion broke in my eyes and what I saw was his true face and his true age... Miss Elaina, the Young Baron wasn’t a young kid, but an adult man, currently disguising as a young kid the same age as me. His real identity is the late baron who was supposedly dead a few years ago!"
