Chapter 168: You Will Be Safe Here

The next morning, Princess Margaux and Princess Tabatha received news from the guards stationed outside about two intruders who suddenly dropped dead from the sky. They checked their dead bodies and they found different paraphernalia needed for infiltration and Tailing people. What is worse, it seems that their target is none other than Princess Margaux. Elaina was with them when they checked on the guards so she heard everything.

"Intruders? But they died? I am quite sure I didn’t order anyone to kill the intruders or the trespassers but capture them so that we can question them," Princess Tabatha put her hands on her hips after hearing what they said, while also tapping her right foot rapidly seemed to make soldiers distraught that didn’t escape Elaina’s eyes.

"N-no Princess! We didn’t kill the intruders at all. They just dropped dead in front of us like they had been attacked before they fell from above. Based on how they landed, it seems they were likely thrown away from somewhere, possibly inside the farm.

"So, none of you killed those guys?"

"No. Although we could do it, their wounds have no matching results from our spears. According to one of my guys who performed the autopsy, one of them suffered severe slashes of swords in his body and bled to death while the other one died instantaneously from a gunshot in the head. Also, their bodies smell like grass for some reason."

After hearing these, Elaina turned to look at the two plants currently on her gates. Yesterday, Elaina and Julia saw that they were now mature and ready to do their duty.

"That can’t be right..." Elaina decided that she had to inspect the two plants. The cause of death of the two intruders is too specific and based on her home defense, there are only two things that currently match the home defense mechanisms that the intruders died from.

The two plants were extremely elated seeing Elaina inspecting them. Before she begins her full inspection, she waters them first and removes some of the excess leaves that would stop them from growing without cutting them, just putting them somewhere a lot more spacious than their first entangled area.

After that, Elaina started to inspect the Swordvine first. Compared to the Gunflower, the Swordvine should be the one who holds the most blood from the two and since one of the intruders bled to death from sword attacks, there is a chance that the blades of the Swordvine have some traces of blood.

The Swordvine’s "fruit" looks like a sword dangling over a vine. The only thing that would make you not think it was a real sword is because the "blade" is color green, making it look like just a random plant shape. She squeezed it a few times and she could tell, that the "blade" of the Swordvine was as tough as a real sword. It is still soft in some parts, but the edges of the "blade" are sharp enough to kill someone or fatally slash someone.

But what she was looking to see on the blades was not there.

So she decided to check the Gunflower next. Unlike the Swordvine where she can easily compare it to a sword, Elaina barely knows guns. She has an idea here and there, but not enough to say that she is pretty much knowledgeable, to say the least.

The Gunflower, as the name suggests is a flower with a stamen in the form of a gun’s barrel, very similar to a repeater flintlock that is used as one of the guns that the army in the Luminiera Kingdom uses for firearms. The flower is big and the stamen itself is the "gun" of the Gunflower, which Elaina assumes to be what it aims to the target before releasing a "bullet" straight to where it was aimed.

As for where the bullets came from, Elaina doesn’t know. Perhaps it was the undeveloped seeds that are stored usually on the plant’s flower? Elaina is not sure either. And just like the Swordvine, Elaina couldn’t find any traces that would lead to the death of those two related to those plants.

"Hey, God of Farming, I just needed to ask something about the Garden Guardians."

"[Hmmm? What about them? Ask away.]" The God of Farming typed and displayed the words as quickly as Elaina asked.

"Are the Garden Guardians capable of killing people?"

"[Yes. They can kill based on their judgment. I made sure to program them to work like a human assess the danger and immediately perform actions depending on how dangerous the entity or individual is. The first thing they will do is to determine if the enemy is hostile to where they are guarding, then they will then raise their lethality charge if they notice that the target has weapons and other things that would allow them to cause harm. Once they determine that, then they will proceed to attack and eliminate the target depending on their lethality.]"

Elaina remembered that according to the soldiers, the intruders hold lots of paraphernalia of items meant for intrusion and covert operations which means they are also armed as that is necessary for intrusion to disable traps and guards. And since they intruded with the target in hand, it means they intruded on the farm with malicious intent.

And their worst mistake started from entering the farm. And since they got caught immediately, it seems they entered by jumping over to the front gate and landing right in front of the two plants and the fact that the soldiers outside didn’t hear anything means the death of the two is instantaneous as the two obliterates the enemies in one go.

"Can we make them just restrain enemies instead of killing them outright? Immediately dealing with the nuisance is good, but I don’t want to accidentally kill someone who is not supposed to be killed in the process."

"[No worries, Dear Elaina. The kill tactic only activates if it is currently nighttime, all humans and demi-humans in the vicinity of the area are asleep and they enter the farm with malicious intent. During the morning, any unauthorized people, whether they are dangerous or not, will only restrain them first. Only when trouble begins they will begin to attack as well.]" The God of Farming reassured Elaina.

Elaina sighed in relief after hearing that. She didn’t want anyone she knew to suddenly get killed because they suddenly entered the house without warning. These kill tactic requirements allowed Elaina to sigh in relief.

"Thanks for that. I didn’t understand much at first. Thanks for the information."

Now, with the confirmation of the God of Farming, based on the wounds of the intruders, the likely chance they are the ones responsible for the deaths of those guys is higher than it seems. But perhaps it is justified for Elaina and knowing how lethal they are, Elaina is now convinced of how the Garden Guardians work. There are still more on the ledger and if she used them, the farm would surely become an impenetrable place where no one can just waltz in without suffering some casualties and wounds in the process.

After finishing her inspection, was also the time the two entered the farm again after speaking with the guards.

"So, what did they fully say regarding their reason for intruding on the farm? If their target is Princess Margaux something is going on for them to actively do this."

"I am not sure either, Master but based on my assumption, those guys have always been under the tail of my sister without our knowledge. And I had a big guess on who was the one causing this and the one who sent those intruders last night," Princess Tabatha rubbed her chin.

"You got an idea who it was already?" Elaina asked.

"There is no other person that is most suspicious other than the Young Baron himself. After the revelation from yesterday, I can assume that the reason why he also knows that my sister is coming to the castle is because of his men. With the knowledge he got in advance, he will use it to his advantage to use it to get close to Margaux and ensure his involvement with her as close as possible.

Elaina nodded. The Young Baron is suspicious and Elaina finds it weird how many coincidences the Baron was there when Princess Margaux was coincidentally also there. It is too much for it to be just a mere coincidence.

Knowing this, Princess Margaux starts to shake again and is now clinging to her sister, trying to endure the experience she has experienced just now.

"Hey, don’t be afraid, Princess. No one will be able to hurt you while you are staying here on the farm. Anyone who tries will never be able to stand back up again and will wish that they didn’t bother you for the rest of their life. You will be safe here for we are here to protect you."
