Chapter 165: What Crop Is It?

After thinking for a while, Elaina decided to close the deal and accept the Dungeon Pot. Elaina could do without the dungeon pot to be honest because she has access to a planting area inside the dungeon that would be ideal for growing something. However, Elaina is in a bit of a rush to know what kind of crop it was to begin with. As for the God of Farming, after knowing what the seed was, he started to do his research about the seed. He wanted to know if the seed itself would be safe or not and whether he should add it as another crop that should be added on the list of crops and plants labeled on the almanac pages.

After the Wandering Merchant left when the deal was sealed, Elaina brought the pot inside the house and the seeds that are said to be the seeds from the plant known as the Dungeon crop.

"You got any more info regarding the Dungeon Crop?" Elaina asked.

"[I got some records but they are very old and are part of the primordial records that were created during the first creation of the world. Which means that these seeds have existed way beyond my time. I wasn’t even born yet when these seeds came into existence.]"

"You mean, the one who created these seeds is someone of higher rank or the creator of the world himself?"

"[Possibly. But the records that were left behind are so old to the point that I don’t know who left these records behind and who has written them. So even if I try to track down who was it, it might take time.]"

"We should take the time to learn who it was then. In the meantime, you also got the information regarding the Dungeon Crops right? The Wandering Merchant gave the backbone to the description but he only knows little about it so perhaps you could enlighten me what it was then?"

"[Got it right here. According to the records, these crops were originally meant to grow as food for the monsters who are herbivores that live in the dungeons. However, because most herbivore monsters don’t eat them and instead eat other grasses, the Dungeon Crops slowly spread and became common in dungeons. That’s when the time humans started to explore dungeons and started to conquer them. And they soon found the weird black vegetables and fruits that grow on the soil within the dungeon.]"

"So what the Wandering Merchant is saying is all true. They are crops that can be found in the dungeons and one can identify them from their black color."

"[There’s more to it. According to here, most people avoid these since they are black vegetables and think that they are just imitating the original vegetables to lure in people. However, one person was brave enough to try the unthinkable and proved it wrong, allowing the discovery that these vegetables can save their lives if they are in a dungeon. Based on the notes here, it seems the creator of the seed did not do that intentionally but after seeing the results, he didn’t bother to change its composition and instead let it flourish. Now, those crops are one of the things adventurers look out for whenever they go on a dungeon spelunking journey.]"

"Is there any information regarding the plant itself? The way it grows and what kind of crop it will grow?"

"[There are some records here but I don’t know if they are reliable or not. It’s quite short.]"

"Let’s listen first," Elaina convinces the God of Farming.

"[According here. The seeds of Dungeon crops are rare things. And if they appear, then that means they can grow anywhere as long as they grow in the dungeon soil regardless of the location whether it is in a dungeon or outside of the dungeon. However, without the dungeon soil, they will not grow at all. And as for the plant itself that will grow, that will depend on the luck, the dungeon’s soil’s condition, and the season it was planted.]"

"That’s it?"

"[That’s it, Elaina. I don’t see any pages that follow that. Not even a torn page. That’s all of it.]"

Elaina scratches her head. If what the information said is true, then if she plants this seed in the dungeon pot, she will indeed be able to grow the Dungeon crop. But once it grows, the one that will appear and sprout will all depend on luck, season, and the soil condition. That means the seed itself can grow any sort of Dungeon Crop as long as you get the right tempo on when to grow one.

"[Elaina, how about you try and grow one? We both don’t know what it will do but we can use this chance to learn and record our findings, allowing us to study whether it can benefit both you and me. And just studying something that existed since primordial times is something that I have not done before.]"

She is not just curious about it, she is already thinking of various ways she can use these seeds to her advantage and how she can use this to either profit or to let it spread far and wide.

"Yes. I think we should go for that and plant one."

Since they only have one pot, Elaina has to endure using only one seed per plant cycle. As much as she wanted to plant more, she had no access to any dungeon soil that was currently present inside the dungeon pot and without it, she couldn’t grow any of these seeds at all.

"So, what crop is it?" Elaina asked the God of Farming, trying to predict what kind of crop would appear on the pot.

"[Since it is autumn, there is a chance it will be a sweet potato. Perhaps beet? There are so few variables for me to guess so all we can do is wait and see.]"

"How about we add the fertilizer to increase its chances of growing fast?" Elaina suggested.

"[Not now. We should grow a few more before we grow one with the fertilizer so that we can determine how long it grows in one cycle. I know you are excited but we do have to see its growth time normally first before we even try to see for ourselves how fast it will grow with the Fertilizer. Don’t be hasty, Elaina.]"

While Elaina and the God of Farming are having some good vibes with their farming activities, Julia enters the farmhouse, rushing inside."

"Sis, Princess Margaux has returned!"

"She has returned? I thought she was already good with her parents there after their discussions. Is she here perhaps to take Zaza home?" Elaina stood up slowly as she is now having trouble doing so with her belly.

"I don’t think so, Sis. It seems they are here to discuss things with you, Sis. Princess Tabatha is also here and she asked for your presence."

Elaina does not know what is currently happening but decides to look into it and see what is happening.

When they arrived, both Princess Tabatha and Princess Margaux were unloading the latter’s suitcases, this time, it was a lot more than what she had before. Princess Tabatha saw Elaina and bowed to Elaina like the former was still royalty.

"Empress Elaina, we are sorry for our sudden arrival," Princess Tabatha greeted.

"Hey, don’t call me that. I am not the empress anymore, remember? And you already call me Master back then...shouldn’t you be calling me that, instead of the former?"

"Wait, you are already accepting me as a pupil?" Princess Tabatha was surprised but happy to hear that.

Elaina was taken aback and realized that she hadn’t accepted the princess to that kind of stuff just yet. She just got so used to her calling her Master that it got ingrained in her mind last time. However, seeing that Princess Tabatha’s face seemed to have lit up in positivity, Elaina sighed and decided to not break it anymore. And besides, she can ask for some pointers from her grandpa on how to teach someone properly things about the sword.

"Fine, fine. You win. Anyways, what is the big idea? What is happening and why are there more suitcases here than I remembered?"

"Miss Elaina! Please, can you accept me again and let me live here for a while?" Princess Margaux kneeled on the ground, causing Elaina to get shocked seeing the princess kneel in front of her.

"Huh? I am confused Princess, what is going on? Please stand up and explain to me before I get confused any further?" Elaina scratches her head in confusion.

Realizing they haven’t explained anything yet, Princess Margaux stood up and calmed down. Princess Tabatha gestured for them to talk inside for now and Elaina nodded. Seeing as they are quiet about it, something must have happened.

After Elaina cleaned up the table and everyone got seated, Elaina began the questioning.

"Alright. So what is going on here? Did something happen again?"

"Well, as you can see, my Sister is about to get married. However, things have escalated when the marriage candidate that our father thought would be, was actually not what he appears to be," Princess Tabatha started.
