Chapter 161: Mysterious Seed
Chapter 161: Mysterious Seed
Just like what Elaina expected, both her grandparents asked her about her experience with the situation and what caused her to run away. They have visited Luminiera Kingdom and have asked their son and daughter-in-law what happened. They also tried to inquire about things on the castle but because they were barred entry, they couldn’t say much on the side of Alfred.
"We already heard from our son, your Father, that they already visited you and tried to bring you back so that you can repair the relationship that was broken by Alfred. However, you refused. You even caused some events that caused terrible things to happen in their business because of the reputation they received after visiting you. We heard their side, so we would like to hear on your side as well," Grandma explained.
"You guys believe them?" Elaina asked.
"No. We are not on any side. We are a neutral party that is trying to establish and judge who is right and wrong in this one. And if we learn that something is going on besides the usual things, then we will make sure to take action and help mend this situation to normal."
Elaina sighed and looked at Troy who was just listening to their conversation. He nodded in response to Elaina, which the latter understood.
"It will be a bit long but to give you context, we should start at the very beginning..."
Elaina then began to explain everything happening including her escape to the castle, her decision to run away and settle down in the Darcero Kingdom, and everything that her parents did after discovering her location which was then followed by Alfred’s invasion of the farm that eventually led to Alfred’s trial and the divorce process happening.
It took a lot of hours for Elaina to explain things and she made sure that she didn’t add or revise anything even if it paints her badly in that situation, because there is no reason for her to lie on this one.
By the end of her explanation, Elaina’s grandfather is already fuming with rage and he is holding back his anger yet the aura seeping out of his body cannot be hidden easily.
"Bloody hell, we made sure that kid should not believe in any religion’s fanatical approach unless it is dedicated to the sole creator of this world and the gods who govern the land. Shouldn’t they already have an idea that the ones they are currently worshiping are no longer a god if these gods are asking for some sacrifice? And what’s with this absurd rule of not having twins? We are pretty sure we have wiped that kind of belief back when we were still adventurers!" Elaina’s grandma frowned.
"That rule has been there for quite some time already, grams, gramps. Although those sacrifices rarely happen since twins are barely common in the Luminiera Kingdom, I saw one or two about this situation but couldn’t do about it as it is one of the official laws of the kingdom," Troy clenches his fists as he talks about it.
"I also tried to abolish this act when I was still an empress but I didn’t get any sort of approval from the elders and other members of the committee. Even my ex-husband does not agree as well, resulting in a unanimous decision to prevent what I proposed," Elaina added.
Grandma pats Grandpa who then slowly returns to normal. It was like she was the switch to his temper to avoid it from leaking and causing havoc.
"Sorry about that. But we get the gist of it now. No wonder I felt like something is not right when I listened to my son and daughter-in-law’s explanation regarding your situation. There are so many inconsistencies about it and after you filled us up, it seems that everything makes sense now and those words they spouted before are all fabricated."
"Honey, are you up for disciplining someone and letting them know the right and wrong? I think they have gotten complacent after they got the freedom to do anything to the point they believe in nonsense," Grandma asked.
"Yeah, I think we should do that. However, we should not think too much about it right now. We are on a little vacation. The weather is nice here in Darcero and I heard that there are many delicacies here once Autumn hits. We can just ask the guild to do the job for investigation in our stead as well," Grandpa answered.
"Makes sense. I don’t want to ruin our vacation here either."
Despite being old, the two still find themselves enjoying new things in life. And Elaina can appreciate that.
"Ah, right. Before I forget, we have something for you, Elaina. Now that you have become a farmer, perhaps you can help us study and grow these seeds?" Grandpa suddenly remembered something and snapped his fingers for a small dimension to open. He then put his hands inside and pulled out a bag of seeds of an unknown kind.
"Seeds?" Elaina catches the seed that her grandfather throws in her direction.
Inside the bag were seeds of some kind that looked like some jewels of some sort. However, she can tell they are some kind of seeds since they have some hairy stuff outside. A jewel does not possess any hair of any kind.
"Oh, these seeds. Yeah, I almost forgot about it as well, thankfully you remembered honey," Grandma smiled.
"What seed is this, Grandma, Grandpa?" Elaina asked, still checking the seeds in her hands.
"As you can see, we found that in one of the dungeons back when we were still in the prime of adventuring. It was well-guarded when we took it from the dungeon so we thought it was some kind of important thing and we brought it back to be studied."
"The result then came back that it was a seed of some sort. Many experts tried to grow them but failed ultimately and they ended up recovering the seed they planted and put it back inside the bag. In the end, it stayed in my inventory for so long until I decided to try again and this time, let someone who has experience in farming do the honors in growing it," Grandpa explained.
A seed found in the dungeon? Elaina immediately opened her almanac to search for what kind of seed it was. She has to ensure that this seed is not something that will be considered dangerous especially since it was found in the dungeon.
But for some reason, the Almanac came up blank. She couldn’t find any information regarding the seed. In short, there is no record in the database of the Almanac about this seed at all.
Seeing that the Almanac had no idea what this thing was, Elaina decided to ask the one who was the most expert in the field and ask him about it.
"Are you watching, God of Farming?" Elaina asked mentally.
"[Yes. And I am currently checking my records on that seed that you are currently looking at.]"
"So, what is this, then?" Elaina asked.
"[To be honest...even I have no idea what that was.]"
"What? Seriously? Aren’t you the God of Farming? Shouldn’t this seed be part of your creation?"
"[Yes, I am the God of Farming. However, I have no recollection of creating this seed and placing it in a dungeon for humans to discover, so I started looking at my records. I want to double-check if I was just forgetting things or if I was just mistaken. And from the looks of it, I am not mistaken. I did not create this seed, nor do I have any knowledge regarding it.]"
"So you mean, this seed is not a seed?" Elaina asked.
"[No. Even I can tell it is a seed. However, it is a creation of someone else and not by my hands. And whatever it is, not even I know.]"
"Then...I should not grow this one."
"[No. Although it is an unknown seed and there comes a chance of danger when growing it, I will make sure to keep you safe so I command you, my blessed one, to grow this seed. Please help me study this seed. Of course, I will reward you if you do so.]"
Elaina’s ears perked up when she heard this. She is already planning to grow it for her grandparents anyway despite the chances of danger but she didn’t expect to be rewarded as well when growing it. She silently celebrated as she glanced at the seeds again.
"Alright, Grandpa, Grandma. I will try growing these seeds. However, no promises that these seeds will grow under my care. If even experts can’t grow these seeds, then what about me, who just started as a farmer?"
The two nodded in satisfaction about it.
"Anyways, it’s getting late. We are still going to head to the branch of Adventurer’s Guild this time around to talk about the situation with the merfolk with them. Don’t worry about us, we have our rooms we will be staying for the night, so you don’t need to worry. Oh, and here, take this. Use it in case those fish pricks appear once again," Grandpa then handed Elaina a little bead that is brittle.
"What is this, Grandpa?" Elaina asked.
"Crush that on your palm or wherever you are comfortable with and we will come immediately to your aid. Remember, we will always be here for you."
