Chapter 162: Goodbye Summer, Hello Autumn

Even after the incident earlier that morning, the harvest process did not stop and continued after the event was over. Elaina was thankful that the Merfolk that attacked earlier did not do anything to the baskets containing all they harvested. They might have attacked the farm but they are not after the vegetables at all.

When the sun starts to set, the work on the farm has finally concluded. All the plants that will not survive the change of seasons are already harvested from their fruits and are cleared off. They will start wilting and die once the next season comes and so before the next season arrives, clearing them off is much better than letting them continue to remain.

The previous plots that are already cleared with the former plants are filled again for the next batch of new crops. Although Elaina is planning to begin a crop rotation, the fertilizer that Elaina uses already proves the crop rotation redundant and also takes a long time for effect, making the fertilizer a much better option for her. It might not be fair to other farmers, but it is business and Elaina wanted to work smart, not hard.

She doesn’t want to abuse it but she will still use it for convenience. After all, it exists to be used.

"Good work everyone. Despite the trouble that happened earlier this morning, things proceeded nicely after that. I apologize for that experience and I hope that none of you are traumatized by that, " Elaina sincerely offered her apologies.

"Don’t think about it boss! I am used to those kinds of events so I am unfazed on what happened there. You don’t need to apologize on something you didn’t intend to happen!" Curaj immediately responded.

"What he said, Boss! And besides, the Harvest Goddess protected us so we are not afraid. We always believe that we will be fine," Bam nodded in agreement as he looked at Curaj who also nodded.

"Yeah, Sis. Don’t blame yourself on that one. Blame the Merfolk king and his men for disturbing the peace that we currently hold here. If not for their arrival, we would still. Be happily doing our work and we would have been done with this work much earlier than it should be, " Julia added.

Elaina smiled and looked at everyone. "Thanks for the understanding. Now that everything is done, let’s divide the crops that will go to the bin and the crops that we will keep. With how many baskets filled from all the harvest, we surely have a wonderful summer even with all the challenges that happened."

Everyone nodded and Elaina watches as everyone sorted out those that should be sold and those that are going to the storage. Elaina made sure to pick the highest qualities of crops to be sold as they would net more money compared to regular ones.

As for the ones to keep, Elaina have chosen both the regular and medium quality veggies. They are not bad, but since they are inferior in quality, they will fetch normal price. Even so, Elaina made sure to also include a few regular ones to the items that are gonna be sold to ensure that there are choices for everyone and not just those people who can afford it will be the only one who can purchase it.

Around an hour later, everything has been sorted out. The veggies that would be sold filled up two baskets to the brim while the ones that will be staying is only a single basket though like the others, it is also filled to the brim.

Curaj volunteered to put all the sellables to the Shipping Bin himself. Elaina is impressed by Curaj’s strength, seeing it personally as he picks up the basket filled with vegetables. Elaina knew it was very heavy since even with her and Julia’s help, both of them couldn’t carry them properly and yet Curaj made it look so easy.

After the work, Elaina divided the harvest for the Feys and for Curaj, as well as her "offering" to the Harvest Goddess. Plus, exclusive for Curaj, Elaina also have him 1000 gold for the day. Even Curaj was surprised since Elaina immediately paid him 1000 gold all of a sudden.

"W-wait, boss. This seems too much. 1000 gold is already excessive enough for me..." Curaj felt confused and panics a little seeing the amount of money in his hands. He has never held so much money before in his life. After all, regular wage given should be 100 gold per day. And yet Elaina gave him 1000 immediately.

"What are you talking about? This is a week’s worth of wage. Although I want to be generous, but I don’t have that much money to even pay you with if I keep up the 1000 gold a day, " Elaina explained.

"But if it is a week’s worth, then what about this extra 300? These vegetables?" Curaj asked with a confused look on his face.

"Ah, consider them as bonus. You just started right? And I know the discrimination that you might receive there, so take advantage of the extra money to rent a room for yourself to someone who doesn’t mind other races to be their neighbors. As much as I want you to stay here, I really can’t do that," Elaina explained.

Hearing that, Curaj seems relieved and nodded. "Thank you very much, boss!"

Elaina gave the Feys the vegetables share as well and the family are very happy to receive a lot. Since they don’t need money and have no use for one, Elaina don’t need to pay them any single coin.

"Julia, this is your share. I know you said before that you don’t need wage but you helped out a lot, so you can say that this is some sort of pocket money to buy something for yourself. Enjoy and use it wisely, alright!"

Julia cannot stop Elaina about this so she only smiled and accepted the money. "Thanks, Sis."

Curaj helped Elaina carry the basket of harvest inside the house and to also carry the other goods to the Harvesy Goddess.

Although the Harvest Goddess looks worse than before, she is still in good spirits.

"You look pale, Harvest Goddess, you alright?" Elaina asked.

"Worried, are we? Haha, don’t worry too much, I am fine. I only look like this because I have been repairing my realm and I keep exhausting my mana in the process. If not for the king of the merfolks destroying my realm, then I don’t need to be subjected to this little torture I am currently experiencing."

"Sounds rough. I am sorry I can’t help much. But perhaps a few "offerings" can replenish your powers, hmm?" Curaj then hands over the vegetables for her inside the basket.

Hearing that, the Harvest Goddess eyes lit up and quickly hugged the basket like she didn’t want it to let go. She disappeared into her realm for a short time before they heard a shout under it’s realm.

"I will return the basket later, so let me borrow it for now! "

Elaina smiled and let Curaj know that his job is done for the day.

After the incident is over, everything went back to normal. Although she is still not sure whether the Merfolk would go back to retaliate, Elaina has to make sure everything is okay.

Due to the attack, Elaina already knew that the Merfolk may seek revenge. It also doesn’t help that the previous defense seeds have not fully matured yet. It would have been a good choice to have but since they are not available at the moment, all she can do for now is to either rely on herself and her swordskils or to ask for her grandparents to help.

With the jewel that they gave her earlier before they left, she can call them if Elaina or the farm is in danger.

For now, Elaina has to put it as future plan that she needed to fulfill. Increase the defenses of the farm and to also ensure things would be able to fight back in case of invasion.

With summer being over, Elaina and the rest of the people experiencing the transition of season, the world enters a new time for everyone to start anew.

"Goodbye summer. Until then."

After they left from Elaina’s farm, her grandparents accompanied by Troy entered the Adventurers guild who are busy with the situation that was brought over by the Merfolk people.

When they arrived, everyone tensed and the whole guild stops their work and started greeting them.

"Welcome to the Adventurer’s Guild Sir Hero and the Saintess!"

Everyone who is not familiar with the two were shocked as the three marches inside. Grandpa then make a sign that they could continue with their work.

A few people starter whispering with each other.

"Wait, who are they? Are they some sort of VIP that I didn’t know?" One of the workers asked.

"No. Have you not heard of the hero and his party before who defeated the Primordial Darkness before?"

"You mean Hero Rakkan and his companions? Of course I know them, they are popular stories that I know. she answered.

"Then if you know them, how come you did not know them just now? Those two are the heroes. That guy is Hero Rakkan who retired. As for the other person next to him, that was the former saintess, now Retired, Saintess Liliana. They are the founders of the Adventurer’s Guild and the main reason we have a job right now! "
