Chapter 156: Harvest Day and the Final Day of Summer

A few days pass by and at long last, summer finally arrived on its final stretch. The heat that has been raging for the past few months has also disappeared, which makes the weather a lot cooler now.

Elaina and the others are out in the field much earlier than usual. Elaina even asked Curaj to stay on the farm the other day so that he can wake up early and can join on the harvest day. He was reluctant at first but he agreed eventually and temporarily took one of the rooms on the second floor.

Elaina is the first one to wake up from the peopleand spirits in her farm and even though she should be the one who should wake up last, it seems habits die hard.

"[It is still dark on your time, dear Elaina. Why are you already awake and preparing? Shouldn’t you take this chance to have an extra time to sleep and rest?]" the Goddess of Taking asked, wondering why Elaina is already moving around the kitchen a lot earlier.

"The earlier the work is being worked with, the sooner it will be done. I may not be able to help with today’s harvest as everyone forbids me from helping but I will also show that I can also help with our joining the one who will harvest crops, " Elaina said with dedication as she started working on what she will be cooking for the day that will serve as breakfast for everyone including the Feys.

"[I get it, but this is way too early, dear Elaina. Don’t forget that you are pregnant right now and you and your future kid all depend on your body to be healthy. Just remember that.]"

"Yeah, don’t worry. I won’t stress myself too hard on this one. "

Elaina started preparing breakfast for everyone. She also started boiling some water for everyone in advance for those who wanted to drink some coffee or something to energize themselves and wake them up from their drowsiness.

As for the actual food, the typical normal breakfast of toasted bread and fried egg is what she prepared. She could make a more complicated meal but she decided to keep it only during lunch instead.

Elaina made sure that everyone should have extra portions of eggs and toasted bread, in case their portion is not enough. It’s simple and easy to prepare, and yet it is a staple morning food for everyone.

As Elaina is finishing up her preparations, she heard a knock from the door alongside with it opening and revealing the Fey family.

"Morning, boss. We felt that you are already awake so we also woke up and ready ourselves," Bam said as everyone nodded in unison.

"Morning guys. Have you guys eaten yet? Breakfast?" Elaina asked.

"Not yet boss. We were hoping to add it up on lunch instead so we didn’t bother eating breakfast for now. And besides, we can survive by just channelling the mana in the air, allowing us to still feel full, " Poe explained.

Elaina shook her head and click her tongue. "Tsk, tsk, tsk. Breakfast is essential for the body to function properly. You guys should eat and not just rely on mana. Here, have some bread and eggs. It might be a little big for you guys but hey, if it is big, that means it will last for a while and you get full even if you don’t finish it all."

Elaina quickly prep up another set of plates for the four of the Feys who shrugged their shoulders and immediately jumped to the table to eat their breakfast. Elaina mentally took note of their impressive jumping ability. If she wanted someone to grab something placed high that she can’t reach, she will call one of them for help.

The next to wake up are Julia and Curaj who both went down the stairs together.

"Morning Sis, you are up early, eh?" Julia smiled as she started to assist Elaina on her work.

"Good morning, boss. Sorry for waking up a little late, " Curaj scratches his head.

"Good morning, Julia and to you too Curaj. And don’t worry too much about being early. It doesn’t mean I am awake already doesn’t mean you are late already. Relax, you should get used to this already. It’s been a week since you started working here, " Elaina smiled as she handed him a plate of bread toast and fried egg.

Elaina turned off the stove powered by magic stone and took the kettle with hot water inside while Julia grab some mugs for everyone including the Feys.

"Everyone wanted some coffee or some chocolate beverage in the morning? We have some powdered coffee here and cocoa for those who are interested."

"We will pass for the coffee but we would like the cocoa, boss, "Bam immediately requested.

" Got it."

"You already know my taste, Sis. You can just leave it to me," Julia smiled as she continues to assist Elaina.

"Can I have coffee...?" Curaj asked timidly.

"Chin up, Curaj. Don’t worry, this is free of charge. You can rest easy and drink to your hearts content," Elaina said it with a smile.

Hearing that, Curaj smiled as well and took the mug and started to mix his coffee to the hot water.

While everyone is enjoying breakfast, Elaina heard a knock so she left the kitchen counter to Julia for now and opened the door, revealing it to be the Harvest Goddess, the female Merfolk named Alessa and the two guardian animals, Shardu and Zaza.

"Hi, I smell some food so we would like to crash in! " the Harvest Goddess looked smug about it.

"Wow, this is a rare occurence, Miss Harvest Goddess. We are having our breakfast right now. Would you like to join us? Everyone is welcome as well."

"Heck yeah! Don’t mind us if we do, alright?"

Elaina is still not sure if this Goddess here is a real goddess or just some random thug girl who isn’t afraid of what to say. Still, Elaina thinks this is better than being the usual type of goddesses she have read before in stories who acts like they are high and mighty even though they are not really that powerful.

The two girls entered alongside with both Zaza and Shardu. Zaza and Shardu’s wounds are already close to fully healed. A few more rest and they will recover completely already.

Even though it’s still very early in the morning, the people in the farm are very lively that everyone who might hear them might think that there is some sort of party happening even though the truth is that it is just a regular party.

The group did not waste any time and started to work. While the others are busy with work, Elaina is supervising them on what to do and correct their mistake during harvesting if she saw one or two. Alessa also wanted to repay the help that Elaina gave to her and her baby so she decided to help as well with the permission of the Harvesr Goddess.

Every time they finish the harvest, the Feys would then follow it up with a quick clearing to the field using their scythe, cutting off the plants that once gave them the fruits and vegetables they have harvested.

It was necessary though as they will die immediately once the season shifts by midnight. One margin of error and letting them die during that time would just make you receive extra work for clearing off dead plants and scattered leaves that would leave the stem of the dead plant.

As one basket gets full, Elaina would then procure the next basket to fill and they will start doing the work. The cucumbers and strawberries are looking great for final harvest. It’s too bad that the strawberries would be included to the little purge but it is the nature of farming.

It didn’t take everyone long to finish everything. As a result, they managed to haul quite a lot and based on Elaina’s mental calculation, she could earn 10,000 gold or more with the cucumber and strawberry combined. It shouldn’t be this way if not for the interference of her ex husband and his men then they would have earned a lot more for the final harvest.

Next up is the corn. With Elaina’s instruction, the two fields are classified from the sweet corn and popcorn.

Elaina has a plan for both of them and it is a good way to familiarize themselves on the popcorn and sweet corn since even Elaina is not so well versed from it.

As they begin to harvest corn, all of a sudden, the sky suddenly went dark and looks like it is about to rain.

"Eh? There is rain?" Elaina frowned. She was quite sure of it, there is no schedule for rain near the end of summer scheduled on the Almanac and yet, here it is.

"Wait... Sis, this isn’t rain, " Julia frowned.

"Huh?"

Before Elaina can understand what is happening, a few beings appeared from the sky and soon landed on the ground nearby. Alessa shivered in fear the moment she saw everyone. After all, the invaders are someone who was looking for Alesaa and the baby.
