A Single Mother's Farm of the Gods -
Chapter 157: Attack of the Merfolk Kingdom
Chapter 157: Attack of the Merfolk Kingdom
The rain is not just happening around Elaina’s farm, it is also happening around the town. The soldiers are already alerted to this phenomenon where the Merfolks are suddenly surfacing on the land and everyone is afraid or curious as to what the merfolks are doing and why are they suddenly appearing like this out of nowhere.
As for Elaina, despite the warnings she received from the doctor, grabs her sword and readies for anything that will happen. She had a bad feeling about this new situation.
The Harvest Goddess seems to realize something as well and before Alessa can think of what to do. She returned to her realm and hid Mier there in hopes that the merfolk arriving would not see her.
"Alessa, you need to hide as well. You are hiding from them, right? Then go back to my realm and wait until the situation passes by!" the Harvest Goddess ordered the shocked Alessa.
Hearing this, Alessa seems to have snapped back to reality and immediately dove into the stream. As for the Harvest Goddess, she resurfaced again and decided to observe the situation with everyone else.
The others quickly go under the roof while also observing the arrival of the merfolk who are riding flying fishes in the sky. Even Julia who has some knowledge from the Merfolks is not even aware that those fishes existed.
"[WOW! Once you finish giving birth Elaina, you should go and catch one of those kinds of fishes! Even I have not fished up any kind of fish that can fly in the air like some sort of aircraft! If you catch one, I will reward you handsomely!]" the god of fishing posted excitedly.
"[Hey, the situation is serious and all you can think of is a flying fish?]" the Goddess of Taming seems to reprimand the God of Fishing in the process.
"What can you say about this situation, God of Farming?" Elaina asked as she looked at Merfolks arrive in numbers.
"[I am giving you an honest talk. I don’t like this matter one bit. I can tell that all they are going to bring is trouble. But I am not a liberty to interfere. So all I can say is that you have to ensure that you and the farm are safe on whatever they are going to do.]"
Elaina has not much to say about it either. The rain that the merfolk brought was not really water from the sky but came from the sea and were splashes that they brought over. Many might say that it was a tsunami but the tsunami wave itself did not land and devastate the whole place and only brought the Merfolk.
"Look, it seems they are going to land on the town square," Curaj pointed out.
"You are right. They are not specifically targeting the farm, which means they are here to search the human lands for Mier and her mother, right?" Julia looked at Elaina.
"Possibly. This isn’t gonna be good, but we have to ensure that they won’t discover the two," Elaina calmly said as the rain pouring down gradually stopped falling and the weather returned to normal. The sun also returned in the sky like everything did not happen which is a bit concerning.
"Sis, should I try and sneak out to the town hall and see what is currently happening?" Julia asked.
"Yeah, I think you should check out and report to us whatever those merfolks are planning. As for us, we should continue with our work. The merfolk’s arrival are not our concern. The rain has ended so we should finish this quick," Elaina ordered.
Everyone nodded in unison and returned to the field aside from Julia, who is headed to the town square to see what they are planning when they resurfaced for all people to see.
Elaina continues to be vigilant. She can’t shake the feeling that something is about to happen.
"You feel it, farmer?" the Harvest Goddess asked Elaina as she went beside her to have some talk.
"Yep. But I can’t put my finger on what is it that I am feeling right now. I don’t like it one bit," Elaina said as she grip her sword tightly.
Despite that, the work continued and everyone harvests the remaining crops one by one and slowly filling the baskets.
Around an hour later, Julia returned, she clearly run from the town square to the farm since she is still huffing and puffing.
"Julia, you are back. Are you alright? Why do you look so rushed?" Elaina asked as she offers Julia a glass of water.
"I am fine... Huff... just a minor setback and nothing to worry about," Julia said while still catching her breath.
"Did something happen to the town square for you to go back as soon as possible?"
"Yeah. And I don’t think we can get out of this situation as well either," Julia revealed before she started to drink the water Elaina offered.
"Explain in detail."
"Well, based on what I saw, the king of the merfolks is looking for her daughter. He can feel her presencepresence nearby so he is sure to know that his daughter is hiding in this town."
The Harvest Goddess frowned hearing this and even Elaina can tell this is a grave situation they are in.
"What else?" Elaina asked.
"They plan to remain here for a while to track down her presence and return her to the ocean as she is vital to something that she needed to participate in. Based on what the king and what Alessa said before to us, this event that needed her presence is the sacrificial ritual that they are holding," the look on Julia’s face look grim, knowing the grim reality.
"Can they exactly pin point the location of the farm and trace Alessa here?" Elaina asks.
"Not too sure but based on what they said, they can. And I bet they would be coming here to track her down.
Elaina looked at the Harvest Goddess who seemed to be rattled and sweating bullets.
"Will they be safe, Harvest Goddess?" Elaina asked with concern.
"Not too sure now. I know my realm is not accessible by any other people without them getting their permission from me. But if they have a way to bypass that, then I will do my best to protect both the mother and child. I may be just a backwater goddess who barely has power to do anything great like many gods like boss and the others but I also holds a dignity as a goddess that I will protect others if I can do so."
Elaina knew that the Harvest Goddess is serious about this. It seems that she is ready to jump to the defense if things gets real bad and if the king really did cause some danger.
While they are discussing things, the gates is loudly knocked by something metallic. Everyone knows that they have arrived indeed. Thankfully, it seems they are not as unlawful as the soldiers from Luminiera Kingdom and a few people related to Elaina who breaches the farm without permission. The Merfolk is respecting their private property, but they are doing so in a very annoying way.
"Curaj, go and open the gates and let them in. I don’t want them destroying the gate."
Curaj nodded and quickly went to the gates, opening it. Outside reveals countless of Merfolk soldiers as they announced their arrival to the farm. One announcer holding a document went forward and fluently speaks in human language.
"Humans living here on the farm, we the Merfolk kingdom are requesting to enter the farm and perform a search for we detected the trace of the person we are looking for. We humbly ask for permission to enter the premises and conduct the search. "
Elaina was about to decline them but the Harvest Goddess didn’t agree to that.
"Let them in, Farmer."
Elaina is not sure what the Harvest Goddess is planning but she seems to have something.
"Let them in, Curaj."
Hearing that, Curaj nodded and let the Merfolk soldiers inside. The soldiers entered the farm. Elaina thought that it would only be the soldiers of the Merfolk kingdom who will be entering but to her surprise, a few Merfolk much bigger than the Merfolk soldiers have entered as well, which means these guys are the royalties. One of them has a gold crown in his head even.
The king looked around the farm and was surprised to see that a variety of people and spirits are present in the farm and not only humans. But he quickly calmed down and started to prod the surroundings. The soldiers are careful as well as to not interfere with the work of the Feys who are now on the side and are being joined by Curaj who is ready to protect them if anything happens. Even the Pixie is alarmed and currently stayed peering inside the house.
"Sir. Her traces stopped here on the farm. It seems she dived into the stream and perhaps used it to escape, " one of the soldiers said.
The king did not respond and instead looked at the water on the stream. That’s when the king shook his head.
"Nope. They are still here,"the king then raised his Trident into the air before striking the surface of the water with it, causing something to shatter.
"There, they are hiding on another realm under the water."
