Chapter 154: The Half Minotaur Boy
Chapter 154: The Half Minotaur Boy
"GET OUT!"
A young boy was sent flying from the store straight to a wall, causing his head to bleed and his body bruised up from the impact.
"Disgusting halfling! Get out of here!" the storeowner angrily grabs the door handle before slamming the door right before the poor guy.
The other people immediately started helping the poor guy. However, when they saw the guy’s appearance, some of them started to run away and felt disgusted. The others who were not fazed by his appearance carried him to a safe area.
After the bystanders carried him from a safe place, they gave him basic first aid on his wounds before they silently left him there.
"Ha...at least, not all people in this kingdom are looking at me in discrimination. Ugh... that’s painful..." he shook his head for a bit and touched the bandaged head of his. It’s a bit damp from the blood but it is good enough to soak in the flowing blood and stop it completely.
"Ugh, even though I am a half-minotaur, my head is quite soft for some reason. Damn it, now even my horn feels painful from slamming myself on the wall..."
He is a bit dizzy, not because of the blood on his head and his injuries but due to hunger. He hasn’t eaten for days because he has no money to buy anything. Just now, he was asking the first eatery he saw for the day for some food and he was immediately thrown out by one of the burly chefs outside so now, he has to find somewhere else for some food scraps.
As he stands up, he suddenly smells a good aroma of food wafting in the air. He has a sensitive smell and his hunger doesn’t help as it is enticing him more than usual. Without even realizing it, he slowly entered the establishment which turned out to be Douglas’s pub.
There aren’t any customers there at the moment since Douglas is currently still preparing. Marigold is also there currently helping her husband finish the preparation of the pub while he cooks.
The doors of the pub opened and the young boy walked inside. Marigold who heard the door open automatically stopped the young boy. "We are still not open, please come back later."
Instead of the young boy leaving the pub, the young boy collapsed on the floor with a loud thud, causing Marigold to turn in his direction and panic when she saw him unconscious.
"AH! Douglas! Someone collapsed on the floor!"
Douglas immediately stopped cooking and went outside the kitchen area to look at the young boy who was lying flat, face first, weakly on the floor.
"Quick, carry him to the room. I will treat him."
Douglas immediately carried the young man to the nearest room where he usually takes a break. As Marigold enters the room, her husband points at the young boy’s horn, which surprises her.
"A halfling!"

...
...
Three days have passed since Elaina asked Julia to post a recruitment notice on the farm on the town hall’s bulletin notice board. However, there is not a single applicant who has entered and feels interested even in having an interview. It would have been fine if the Feys managed to find someone to help as well but it also sucks since even them has trouble finding anyone who can help.
"So, how is the recruitment process, Elaina? Not a single one?" the Harvest Goddess asked as she currently munched on some of the strawberries that Elaina offered the other day.
"Ha, sadly, none at all. It’s kind of weird since I thought there would be someone who would immediately bite on the offer but it seems that not a single one would be even willing to even try to ask," Elaina sighed as she threw bread over the water where all the fishes would start to flock for it.
"I am not too familiar with the human world to understand much of your culture, but perhaps there are not enough people who are willing to jump to a job as hard and stressful as this. Only people who enjoy farming so much would find farming enjoyable at times," the Harvest Goddess gave out some points.
"You might be right and considering that it summer is about to end, many people are busy. However, I underestimated how few people were willing to do any work related to the farm. No wonder most farmers are either on small scale and not on big ones," Elaina scratches her head.
"There are farmers who have some helping hands as well but they are already reputable in their job and some people applied for those jobs so you can’t blame anyone about it. And since you are late in recruiting someone for Autumn, it is normal to have fewer to no people willing to do any sort of hard work. Guess I will just try to ask my brother for some help."
"I will also try to ask Alessa if she can spare a bit of time to help as well," the Harvest Goddess said while finishing her last strawberry.
"Alessa?" Elaina tilted her head.
"Ah, the female merfolk. The mother of Mier, you know? She has been doing fine in my domain and is working quite well there. Perhaps she can offer some help?"
"Thanks for the offer, but I needed to hire a guy. Someone who can lift heavy things. But another helping won’t be that bad. We would have been fine if I was not pregnant as I could do the labor I needed for the work instead but since I couldn’t do that, I needed someone to do the work for me."
"So you needed some muscle to help huh? Guess that is the reason why no one is applying. It would be a different story if you were asking to hire a woman, but a guy? Doubt it. Perhaps you should ask your little maid to revise the specifics on what you are looking for a hire? You should know that there are also girls who can be on an equal level with men in strength."
"Hmmmm..." Elaina thought hard for a bit.
"Welp, time to go back. Seems like you got some visitors, Elaina. Gotta hide before they see me floating around."
Elaina nodded and stood up from the bench after getting notified by the Harvest Goddess about the visitors. As for the Harvest Goddess, she immediately dives back into the water, disappearing on a ripple.
Just from the outside alone, Elaina can tell that it is Mayor Marigold.
"Is anyone home? Hello?" Marigold shouted as Elaina approached the gate hurriedly.
"Coming," Elaina shouted back, to notify Marigold.
Opening the gate, Elaina saw Marigold smiling at her with someone who was currently hiding underneath a thick cloth on his or her head.
"Mayor? What are you doing here? You needed something?" Elaina asked as she let both of them enter the gate.
"Haha, sorry for the unannounced visit, Miss Elaina. It was an unplanned visit, to be honest, so please forgive me for not checking up in advance," Marigold smiled.
"It’s fine, Mayor. Anyways, what brings you here? Here to order some vegetables?"
"Nah, I don’t have enough money and my husband already bought tons of vegetables from the market so I don’t think an additional purchase would be ideal for us right now. I am here for another reason though."
"Another reason?" Elaina frowned.
"Yeah. Remember the recruitment notice that little Julia posted on the bulletin board the other day? She asked me to give her permission to do it the other time so I know of it."
"Ah, well...what about it?" Elaina glanced at the person behind Marigold.
"Well, this guy here needed some job. He has been drifting from place to place and has landed here in Darcero after changing home again and again. You can say that he is a drifter in a sense since he has nowhere to live and he is just visiting various places without even having a proper job," Marigold pointed at the young man with a cover on his face.
"I do need some help but I needed a guy who is capable of carrying heavy things and can do extensive work for hours as well. Of course, I can pay properly and we also offer food from morning till lunch. It’s a good deal."
"What she says, boy. So, are you up to it?" Marigold asked the young boy.
"I think that is fine. As long as I can do the work, I will receive both money and food, yes?" the young boy looked at Elaina with hopeful eyes.
"Yep. As long as you can do the work properly and you do some real clean work, I have no problem hiring you on the spot."
The young boy looked at the field and nodded after that. "I think I can make this work," he calmly confirmed.
"Well, would you look at that, it seems he is willing to accept the job," Marigold said with a smile on her face.
"Wait, one more thing. I needed to ask him first if he was willing to work with the spirits, monsters, and some spiritual entities that can only be heard in discussions and stories?"
"Huh?" the boy was confused.
"What I mean is that, are you okay working alongside people who are not human? Because if you are not okay with that, then I can’t hire you."
Hearing that, the boy’s eyes seemed to light up before he slowly removed the cover on his face which surprised Marigold in the process.
"I can work just fine with them. After all, I am also included as one of them," he smiled as he revealed the horns that were growing on both sides of his head.
