Chapter 145: Cheating Men Must Die! Part 6

Elaina’s outburst causes everyone inside the room to gasp in shock. Even the people watching the broadcast outside the palace were so shocked that they couldn’t believe what they had just heard.

"The emperor cheated on his wife? But isn’t his wife one of the best wives they could have as they can be a partner to run the kingdom?"

"Emperor of Luminiera Kingdom seems to be an idiot. If I have a wife who is capable of anything, I wouldn’t even bother cheating. And looking at her, she is quite the looker, why the heck would he cheat with her?"

"And what’s worse is that he is cheating with the sister of his wife! That is just plain awful!"

Many people voiced their comments as to why he still decided to cheat. After all, cheating in the Darcero Kingdom is frowned upon and most people here do not tolerate people who cheat especially those who do it on their life partners.

Despite this, Alfred didn’t listen to them. His eyes are fixated on Elaina who is now seething in anger, ready to throw Alfred across the room. If not for Dr. Fey and Julia stopping her, she would be charging straight at him and attacking him immediately.

"Elaina! Why are you being like this? You didn’t even talk to me about this matter and how you are against it in the first place! If I had known this fact, I wouldn’t even bother..." but before Alfred could say anything, Elaina immediately stopped him from talking as she quickly regained her standing in court.

"There is no need for talking, Alfred! You shouldn’t have thought about that in the first place if you are loyal to our marriage!"

Before the two escalate the heated argument to a very bad thing, the king repeatedly slams his gavel to bring back the order of the court which is now in chaos due to the revelations.

"ORDER! I SAID ORDER IN THE COURT!"

CLACK!

The voice of the King stopped the chatter entirely and both Elaina and Alfred stopped as well but it was clear that the two were not yet done with anything.

"I see the gist of it now, but first, we should ask the defendant himself about his relationship with the witness herself and how everything happened that resulted in this incident."

Elaina returns to her seat as Alfred takes the witness stand and gives out his testimony. Knowing Alfred, Elaina knows that Alfred will use some tactics to sway the favor of the crowd to him and twist the narrative. But she already had a lot of ammunition ready depending on what kind of trick he wanted to do.

"Witness, state your name and your occupation," the king said.

"I am Alfred Luminiera, Emperor of the Luminiera Kingdom and the current husband of Elaina Luminiera," Alfred introduced himself as he looked at Elaina.

"Mr. Alfred, can you please explain your relationship with your wife and how you treated her during her time when she was still in the Luminiera Kingdom and is still acting the role of the empress?

"Yes, Your Honor. Elaina and I have been married for almost 3 years. We didn’t have kids despite our efforts to produce an heir due to busy times and sometimes, our schedules are always not free. However, we usually find time to free ourselves from the responsibilities and bond together as husband and wife. However, a month ago, Elaina suddenly disappeared without any reason. She just disappeared all of a sudden and we tried tracking her down as she might be in danger."

"It was hard at first because of how clever she hid her tracks and all of my guesses about her whereabouts were all wrong. I just found out her actual location after the incident with her parents and what happened before the ban was approved and implemented," Alfred explained, finishing his statement.

"And due to the ban, you resorted to the crime, correct," the king added to make some confirmation.

"Yes, Your Honor."

"So you don’t know why she suddenly left you all of a sudden?"

Alfred nodded with a downcast look on his face. "She didn’t even give me any reasons as to why she left and just left me hanging there all of a sudden. And now, she is accusing me of cheating..."

Elaina grinned hearing this. His statement is full of contradiction, and she can prove that he is lying about it. Thankfully, she is more prepared more than enough that will serve as her ammunition this time around.

Since the statement is on the side of the defense, the prosecution is the one who will cross-examine the statement.

"Alright, the prosecution is now allowed to cross-examine the defendant for his statement."

Elaina whispered to her lawyer who will be assisting the prosecution in this trial and gave her a piece of evidence she could use to contradict Alfred. Seeing the evidence, the lawyer smiled realizing that this cross-examination would be an easy thing to break apart.

"[I didn’t know that trials like this are quite lengthy. Usually, things like this don’t happen much.]" the God of Farming commented as they watched the situation unfold.

"[Yeah, the humans are very meticulous in their justice system huh? No wonder it is easy for people to cheat on this if they are not careful.]" the God of Fishing said as he continued fishing nearby while also looking at the trial happening.

"[Shut up guys, it seems we are now in the climax part.]" the Goddess of Taming said as she continued to watch the trial unfold.

...

"Mr. Luminiera, may I ask how frequently the two of you bond together as husband and wife?" the lawyer representing Elaina started to cross-examine Alfred.

"Depending on our schedules. If both of us have a busy weekly schedule, we usually have at least two to three free nights we can use for ourselves which we usually use to have a date and do nightly things," Alfred answered.

"I see. So during those busy days, are you two still seeing each other or are you two not able to interact with each other due to the schedules?"

"Depends. Most of the time, we don’t see each other so I am usually doing things myself until the time when we finally have time for each other."

"Okay, next question. You said that Miss Elaina has not left any reason as to why she left. She didn’t leave a single message at all? Like a message from one of the servants, or even a letter sent to you or left behind from her room? Like none at all?"

"None at all..." Alfred’s face turned sad. "If she did, I would be the first to read it."

As soon as he said those words, the prosecutor herself immediately opposed his statement.

"Objection, Your Honor! This man right here has lied in the court and fabricated his testimony to make him innocent!" the prosecutor accused Alfred.

"Objection! That is just a baseless accusation to my client without proof!" the lawyer angrily retaliates.

"Objection! The client himself is holding the true information and is now making up information that did not happen at all, so I am just pointing it out!"

"Objection, Your Honor! The prosecution is badgering my witness of something that he swears didn’t happen!"

The king shook his head. "Objection overruled. The Prosecution, explain in detail why you are accusing the defendant of fabricating a false narrative."

"Your Honor, may I present to you, the seal marker incense."

"Seal Marker Incense?" the king was confused.

"For those who don’t know, this item is used to create a seal for letters and is sealing the envelope’s contents. This item was developed by the magic tower themselves but because this item is not that well known, only some have an idea how this works. Any letters that are sealed with this will create a unique stamp after it is used. That stamp will burn the moment the seal has been opened or removed from the letter, and the holder of the Seal Marker Incense will immediately know if the letter has been opened or not. It also got a tracker on who opened the letter and if the letter still exists or not. Once the seal is removed, the marker itself will receive a little burn mark, signifying that the seal is open."

"So what does this actually mean?" the king asked, still confused.

"During the day Miss Elaina left, she left out a letter for the Emperor himself. Knowing that the servants there won’t open a letter that is addressed directly to the emperor, that must mean the letter was opened up by none other than the emperor himself. In short, he is lying that there is no letter to be found addressed to him. In fact, he saw the letter himself and because of the contents of the letter painting him in a negative light, he decided to lie about it."

"Ha, as if that is enough proof..."

"We can test it out and see if the letter is still not destroyed and who opened it, that way, we can see everything, alright?"

Hearing this, Alfred shakes and is sweating profusely. He can’t say anything else about it, since what the prosecutor said is true. And the letter is currently with him in his possession, right this moment.
