Chapter 144: Cheating Men Must Die! Part 5

The gavel silenced the people inside the room and the trial that Elaina is waiting for has finally begun.

"The trial for the defendant, Alfred Luminiera will now begin. The defendant has been pressed with charges that are hard to deny and are witnessed by several witnesses making his claims hard to refute. The purpose of this trial is to lighten up his sentence and what verdict will be given to him. If he can’t prove his innocence in this matter, we will view this as a transgression to the kingdom and a sign that Luminiera Kingdom is provoking us for war," the king calmly said while looking serious.

The nobles started to chatter away as they heard the opening statement of the king.

CLACK!

"Order! Order in the court!"

As the commotion died down, the king continued and looked at the prosecution side where the prosecutor, the lawyer of Elaina, and Elaina herself were sitting.

"The prosecution, please begin your opening statement."

The female prosecutor nodded before standing from her seat, laid out her papers on the table, and began her statement for the trial. "Yes, Your Honor. At 10:30 in the evening, the defendant and his men arrived at the outskirts of Luminiera Kingdom using the hidden route created by the smugglers who decided to use this chance to do some business while the ban was currently up. And in this business, they also offer services for people to be "smuggled" inside as well, which the defendant and his men used to enter the territory without the guards knowing," the prosecutor said, as he shared the information about the smuggling activities happening behind the back of the officials.

"I have indeed received reports about this smuggling chain happening and how it was discovered. It seems the kingdom’s security was lacking for this to be happening without everyone’s knowledge. Anyways, continue prosecutor."

"We got a testimony from the defendant himself on what he first did after he arrived in the Luminiera Kingdom. The guards gave us a copy of the testimony that they got after they interrogated the defendant. Here is a copy for everyone around to read and follow and I will submit this as evidence for this case," the prosecutor then used levitation magic to distribute the papers to the king and the defense.

"Very well, this is added to the evidence list," the king nodded after skimming through the paper.

Elaina also got her paper given to her by her lawyer and she began to read the testimony.

"After our arrival, we immediately asked the people if they knew every person currently living in the Luminiera Kingdom. They confidently said yes and I sighed in relief after hearing that. I immediately asked them if they knew where to find the farm where the owner of the farm is a woman and has blonde hair since I got some information that my wife settled on a farm. This way, it immediately narrows down the search."

"He said that there is only one person who fits that description and gave us the direction. Since the area where the smugglers are currently hiding and doing their operation is just near the aforementioned farm, we didn’t take much time to find the farm we were looking for. Since there is only a fence that was easy to scale, I easily breached the farm without ruining anything nearby before calling for my wife’s name."

"That’s when two beasts appeared before me and attacked me out of nowhere. Because of this, I decided to defend myself and try to kill them in the process so that I could continue my search. My men also joined hands together to defeat the enemies faster as well."

"We almost got them all when all of a sudden, my wife appeared and we fought for a bit. That’s when everything blacked out for me and I don’t remember what happened next."

Elaina grits her teeth in anger as she would almost lose Shardu and Zaza that day if she didn’t arrived much sooner than she was. And perhaps, if she didn’t even arrive after they had defeated both Zaza and Shardu, then he might have also destroyed the Feys and even hurt the others including the Harvest Goddess. She might be a lesser goddess but she isn’t strong and she has only defensive abilities to defend herself and has little to no offensive abilities known.

CLACK!

The gavel once again echoed throughout the room after a few seconds of reviewing the statement, allowing everyone to return their attention to the trial.

"After reading the statement, it means he didn’t intentionally enter the territory as a way of invasion and a sign that he wants to instigate a war. However, this is concerning. What he did is just another crime altogether."

"Yes, Your Honor. He might not have intentionally done it for the sake of instigation of war, but he does violate a lot of other things instead. One of his major offenses was the Unauthorized Breach of Private Property and also Royal Assault as one of the beasts that was mentioned in the testimony was the Royal Guardian beast of the Second Princess, Zaza. Since the Second Princess was not present there due to the ongoing Fireworks event that was happening at that time, Zaza is one of the beasts who guards the farm in case of intruders breach. As for the other beast, it seems that it is one of the beasts that was currently acting as the guardian of the farm which justifies their reasons for attacking the defendant," the prosecutor said with confidence.

"Objection! Beasts or not, they still attacked my client and they just defended in response. If they didn’t defend themselves, then the two wild beasts would have mauled them to death." the attorney quickly tried to stop the prosecutor from continuing what he wanted to pin on Alfred.

But it seems it’s not on his side this time around.

"Overruled. What you are saying is that Zaza is just a mindless beast attacking someone without any reason. I can order my soldier to cut your tongue immediately if I wanted to for slandering Zaza whom I also treated as one of my unofficial sons and Margaux’s siblings from another family and species."

The lawyer stopped in his tracks after realizing what he had just said and he went quiet the moment he knew he f*cked up on his counter statement. The prosecutor smirked and used this open opportunity to strike hard.

"Your Honor, although the defendant has defended himself because they were attacked, it doesn’t change the fact that he decided to trespass and break inside a private property without any sort of permission from the owner herself. In short, the verdict remains that he is guilty and he should be given the punishment he deserves."

Elaina can see that Alfred seems to be fine with it, his eyes fixated on Elaina all the time. But one statement from the prosecutor changed his calm demeanor immediately.

"Not only that, but I think this is a perfect case that we will need to discuss a little further. Why did he decide to break into this property in the first place? Mr. Lawyer, I think you know the answer. Could you please tell us what it is?"

Although the lawyer does not like the flow of the situation, he still decides to comply as it is something he has to do as part of the defense.

"The defendant did it because he is looking for his wife. And the farm that he trespassed into, is none other than the farm where his wife settled in," the lawyer answered.

The prosecutor nodded and then posed a question. "So why is the empress of Luminiera Kingdom here?"

"Yeah, that is the big question, why is she here?" the king asked.

"Your Honor, the prosecution would like to call our witness. The wife of the defendant and the Empress of the Luminiera Kingdom herself. She applied to one of the things that we can process here since she can’t do it on Luminiera Kingdom because of her status," the Prosecutor urged Elaina to stand up and stand on the witness stand.

"Yes, your honor, I want to file a divorce. I want to sever ties with Alfred Luminiera and remove my status as the Empress of Luminiera Kingdom. I can’t do it there as the law is bent on my husband’s finger and he will just use this chance to stop the divorce completely."

The king is surprised, but Alfred is more shocked.

"Elaina?! Why? Don’t we love each other? We are even having our children together! Why are you going to divorce me?!"

"Alfred. Did you really think I appreciated you for cheating on me behind my back? Do you think I would be jumping for joy after knowing that you got into a special relationship with my own sister? You piece of sh*t, you should be intelligent enough to know the reason why I am going to divorce you in the first place. If I was the one who would give the verdict? I would give you the Guilty Verdict and you should be executed as a result. Cheating men must die!"
