Chapter 133: Recipes and Kitchen Cooking
Troy bought Elaina all of the kitchen needs that Elaina might need though most of them are the basic ones. The advanced tools that are necessary for cooking advanced recipes are something that Troy didn’t buy since not only are they expensive, but there is also no special occasion that would warrant Elaina to cook any, to begin with. And Elaina also begged Troy not to buy the advanced tools either since even she, acknowledges herself as a newbie to cooking.
She can cook, but only simple meals. For advanced meals, she will need some recipes memorized or followed to the finest instructions to complete. So, what is a better kitchen to use as a practice ground than a kitchen that has the basic needs necessary? A newbie will not be using those advanced tools just yet.
And right now? Elaina is currently testing her mettle in creating something using the new tools.
"I didn’t expect that you would start cooking something the moment we installed everything," Troy didn’t expect Elaina to be so gung-ho at this.
"Of course. If I want to test the quality of the new items and see if they are indeed what they are advertised, the better way to find that out is to use them, right? So I am indeed using them and testing it out."
Elaina is indeed testing out the equipment because she is planning to do multiple cooking sessions in the future that would scare the living daylight of anyone including Troy and the girls. However, she also knew that this was an inevitable outcome the moment the new tools for cooking arrived as she plans to tackle and unlock the page for cooking in the Almanac soon.
Seeing the effects of the fishing page alone, Elaina also wanted to boost her food-making ability to something of a professional level as well. As for the recipes, she will have to purchase them in the pub and ask Guy about them. Marigold said that she can buy the recipes that her husband uses or does not use in the pub. She is not competing with him in terms of becoming a cook since Elaina will treat this as something that she will only do as something to do at the side and not something she wants to do for a living.
But since she only knows a few stuff, Elaina decided to cook something a little bit complicated at first but something that she will be able to properly do now that she has proper kitchen tools compared to the time that she is only using the usual portable cooking tools.
"Are you planning to cook some complicated soup, Elaina?" Troy asked while peeling some of the vegetables.
"Yeah. It is simple and easy to do and something that even I would be able to swiftly cook in a jiffy. It is something that I wanted to cook a lot more but in a better environment and with better tools at my disposal."
"I see. But why we are using tons of vegetables?" Troy asked.
"Because we are doing a Vegetable Stew with meat. I have plenty of vegetables that we have gathered back when we foraged in the forest with the girls. Using those ingredients alongside the wild game we stored not too long ago, we will be able to create a portion of better food for everyone else," Elaina said while also considering Shardu and Zaza who also likes to eat meat but doesn’t like to eat much vegetables with Zaza as an exception who still devours them like nothing compared to Shardu who has a visible dislike to it.
Elaina tried her best to ensure that this new creation of hers wouldn’t become an abomination and to a certain extent, it seemed that it wasn’t a failure somewhat as they didn’t manage to make an abomination of a dish but indeed a stew full of vegetables accompanied by meat.
The process was simple. She only needed to boil some water and pour down the meat to be boiled and cooked at the same time. Once the water started to boil wildly, she then added the vegetables to the mix. All of them are wild versions of the vegetables she knows like carrots and cabbages. She made sure first to make it compatible and she didn’t create something atrocious for the people to not eat. Now, once the vegetables were boiling with the meat, Elaina then added the key ingredient for making a stew sticky to the feel but tasty to eat and sip.
Cornstarch.
She then mixed it into the broth and let the ingredients mix while she added spices to make the food taste a lot better. She then let it simmer as soon as the food is almost ready.
But Elaina didn’t stop there just yet. One dish is not enough for the testing and since they are done with the usual food that everyone can eat, Elaina moves over to the next thing she wants to make.
Dessert.
Elaina is not someone who constantly cooks something related to dessert. The only dessert she can consider to be proud of would be something like juice or something like that. But actual desserts like cakes and stuff? Nope. She has not gotten a chance to ever touch a single recipe related to it once in her life. But she does know one recipe that she learned before and it is quite simple.
Vanilla pudding.
Elaina already has all the ingredients in hand. Milk that Julia usually buys in the market early in the morning, eggs that came from the hencluckles, cornstarch that she used earlier, and sugar. Elaina is not so confident about cooking it but she does know that it is something easy to cook and even beginners can immediately cook without much skills.
"Sis, I heard you are cooking, how about I switch with Sir Troy? Based on the look on his face, it seems that he does not know much about cooking so he is trying to see how to move away," Julia smiled as she wore her apron as she approached Elaina.
"Hey, at least I am helping my sister avoiding to create an abomination of food, alright? If I don’t help her, she might accidentally create an abomination that is called Mysterious Food No. 7 all of a sudden," Troy said with a serious face.
"No. 7?" Julia frowned as to why the food that Troy said was going to be potentially made if he didn’t intervene or help Elaina during the cooking process of the stew.
"That’s the number of times I have seen her create abominations, not counting those times she was on the castle as I didn’t see her do it. But yes, I have seen the successful creation of six pieces that almost and fatally destroyed some people’s lives if I didn’t intervene and stop them from consuming it."
Elaina on the other hand didn’t get offended after hearing what Troy said and just laughed as she recalled that she had indeed created some of the abominations that are something else entirely. And she can say that if she were some sort of a madman, perhaps she might have used that food to poison a few enemy camps of monsters with just one plate alone. And yet, Elaina didn’t know that was how many she had created that stuff and she barely managed to create the seventh without the intervention of her brother. It was kind of a miracle that so far, Elaina has not made any while she is cooking using the portable cooking station like once, at all.
Troy then looked at Julia and shook her a few times. "Hey, Julia. I don’t know if you are a decent cook or not but please, just please, don’t let Elaina create the same abomination that I know. It will destroy the stomach of everyone who decides to eat things and it is a waste of quality ingredients."
Julia smiled. "You can count on me to make sure Sis never strays the path and let her experience that she can still cook dessert without much problem."
Troy is still not convinced much but he is sincerely hoping he was right with his intuition. He would have to also convince Princess Margaux on this matter but she has some business with her sister which is why he can only rely on Julia for her to deliver the promise and let her cook properly, though he is not so optimistic until the very end.

A hooded figure arrived camp of the smugglers where they are currently striking deals to countless people who are trying to accomplish the smuggling process.
As soon as the hodded figure arrived, the people of the camp swiftly continued working.
"Looks like you people are busy with the business, yes?" the familiar hooded figure asked.
"Yes. We have a lot of products that we need to cross the border that will be needed later. But it is kind of surprising that you, of all people, will agree to participate in this illegal activity?" the guy tried to learn more.
"For my wife, I will do everything. Including this. So don’t worry about being discovered, I got you all covered. So, when are we going to leave?" he asked.
"Right away!"
The hooded person is revealed to be none other than Alfred. It seems their reunion will not be that long soon.
