Chapter 108: The Real Purpose of EX02

Elaina was still busy handling things to prepare for tending the wounds of the little fairy when she heard the sound of someone barfing. It sounded faint but Elaina heard it coming from the living room.

Aside from Zaza who is sleeping and the fairy, no one else is present in the living room therefore, there is a chance that the one who barfed just now is none other than the little fairy.

"Wait, did she just eat the EX02?"

Knowing how disgusting to eat the fruit was, Elaina immediately headed back to the living room and saw the little fairy was still eating the fruit of the EX02. Despite looking like a peanut, the taste is not a peanut and it is enough to make anyone barf. It is like the combination of all the things bitter in the world combined into one thing.

Elaina didn’t think too much about it since she thought the fairy would pick either the enticing EX01 fruit or the strawberries that have vibrant colors, not the EX02 that looks like a black peanut. But it seems her expectation wasn’t on point, to begin with.

"No, no, don’t eat that stuff, it’s disgusting to eat. Here, eat this one instead and drink some water. That was not meant for consuming!"

The little fairy realized that Elaina appeared before her causing her to back away and scoot over to the corner, away from Elaina’s hands.

"Alright, alright. Don’t worry, I am not going to harm you. Here is the little cup of water you can use to drink and the fruit that can remove the disgusting taste. Don’t worry, I won’t hurt you. Here, see?" Elaina put down the two things inside the cage and slowly backed off from the cage.

Just like a cornered animal, the little fairy glances at the water and the fruit then back at Elaina before she scampers to the water and gulped the contents down to the last drop. As for the fruit, she was hesitant at first but she eventually bit down on the EX01 fruit and it caused her to be surprised by the taste alone.

Elaina didn’t approach the fairy any longer. Approaching her after what she did would just cause the fairy to be more cautious of her and that is not something she wanted to happen if she wanted to tend her wounds for later.

Since the little fairy started to grab the fruits of the EX01, she didn’t disturb her anymore and just returned to her task earlier. If she wanted to gain her trust, Elaina shouldn’t push herself into the fairy’s personal space at the time of her distress.

The fairy couldn’t stop eating, with every bite she took, the bitterness in her mouth disappeared. And despite barfing earlier, she doesn’t feel hungry at all. As for the fruits she is eating, it does taste good but they are not so fulfilling to the stomach that even if she eats a lot, she will still feel hungry which is weird.

And strangely enough, all of the pain in her body that was present seems to have disappeared completely. She even felt that her head seemed to have gotten lifted away from the pain and she didn’t expect that to happen, especially with how battered she was.

That’s when she looked at the first food she had eaten since she arrived there. The black fruit that she ate is filling enough. She managed to swallow a lot of them but she managed to barf a lot so there is that. But it was strange since the barf that she didn’t contain any of the black fruit. She is also sure that this strange happening is not due to the current fruit she is eating. Yes, it is refreshing, but the difference is between night and day compared to the first fruit.

Yes, the first fruit is disgusting, but for some unknown reason, it fills her up and she does not feel hungry anymore. Not only that, but most of her wounds are healing up and her energy is returning. It should have lessened since she barfed but it didn’t which was odd for her.

But whatever this fruit is, this helped her survive and she will continue to eat for a while. As for the human who helped her, although she still feels wary, it seems the human is someone good.

Elaina returned to the cage carrying the medkit containing the bandaids, disinfectant, and a few stuff that can help tend wounds. Elaina didn’t immediately ask the fairy to get her treated immediately. She just looked at the little fairy and continued to eat.

And as she observed the little fairy, that’s when Elaina noticed that the fairy’s wounds that were pretty visible earlier had either faded or had disappeared completely already. She rubbed her eyes to make sure that what she was seeing was real. She was pretty sure of what she saw since the little fairy was very pitiful before she even fed her. She got a close look before and she couldn’t be wrong, so how does this happen?

She double-checked a glance at the little fairy and made sure that she got a good look, and she was pretty sure that the little fairy should have wounds. Some of the bruises in her body but it wasn’t as bad as before. It was practically dark purple earlier which is why she wanted to tend the fairy already and yet those spots of dark purple have lightened up to the point that it seems like it is just an ordinary bump that might have occurred if someone accidentally hurt themselves in the process.

There is no way the EX01 caused her to heal like that however, it might be a bit of a trigger of some sort. That’s when Elaina thought of something and although it is a weird idea, Elaina decided to try and test it out.

Taking the little needle that is disinfected and used for closing up open wounds, she poked her finger and let it bleed. It’s not much of a wound for Elaina but the blood is already flowing out. As Elaina could feel the warm liquid flowing, she grabbed the EX01 fruit and chewed it a few times. Aside from the same sweet flavor and the nice texture of the fruit, other than that, there is nothing.

Then, her attention shifted to the EX02. Despite the bad reputation she gave to it, Elaina didn’t fully give up on it. That is one of the reasons she put it there, for testing purposes for later uses in case it might be useful somewhere else. She prepared a glass of water first and the fruit of EX01 to wash out the bad taste of the EX02 before she started to take a bite of it.

"Urp...this is disgusting...bleeehhhhh," Elaina couldn’t help herself and instinctively wanted to puke the EX02 she just devoured. But she fought off the urge and immediately drank some water before following it up with a few pieces of EX01 to remove the taste of EX02 completely.

She struggled for a bit as the aftertaste remained. It was eventually washed out after a few bites of the EX01 fruit and a few gulps of water.

"Ah...the experiment..." Elaina then remembered why she did that in the first place and looked at the bleeding finger she had that should still have the blood flowing.

But instead of finding her blood that she didn’t even wipe away to ensure she knows it is still bleeding is not present. Not a single trace of blood is present on her finger at all. She also examined if the wound had remained and pinched it out to make it bleed. And to no surprise, the wound is gone as well.

"Wait...so it means this fruit was not meant to be for normal intake or anything?! It was for wounds and blood loss?"

Elaina was not yet convinced so she poked herself again but this time, she kept her eyes peeled for the wound that was bleeding once more. She then bites to the EX02 fruit and gulped it down. Despite her urge to puke it out, she didn’t and just endured it. And to her surprise, the blood that was flowing, creepily enough, suddenly flows back to her wounds. It was like flowing in reverse.

After all of her blood that got spilled was returned to her wound, the needle wound present started to close and before Elaina could even properly understand what was happening, the needle wound was gone, healing her completely.

Elaina couldn’t believe it and she started to laugh.

"Ha! Why didn’t I think of that? This one tastes so bad, only medicines should be capable of doing that. And yet here I am, forgetting about it."

Now Elaina can fully understand the reason why the wounds of the fairy is gone. Just as Elaina is celebrating by herself, she is brought back to reality when a little poke catches her attention.

"Why are you laughing alone? Is there something funny? Or are you perhaps mentally sick?"
