Chapter 109: Pixie
Chapter 109: Pixie
The poke of the little fairy caused Elaina to be startled and her initial laugh caused her to stop. The little fairy is no longer inside the cage but is currently standing on the table. She was small enough for Elaina to completely miss. Elaina instinctively backed away to ensure the fairy wouldn’t fly away or get scared at her.
"Ah, are you okay now? Are you still hungry? I can still get you more..."
"No need, human lady. But thanks to the food that you handed to me, I managed to recover. And aside from the disgusting food I have eaten at first, the rest are good especially that berry and some of the strawberries."
"That’s good to hear. Now you are free and you can go back home now," Elaina then opened the door for the little fairy sat down on the table, and shook her head.
"Ha, home? I doubt it. Just from the feeling of this place, I am currently in a foreign land where I have no idea where to go. There is no way to return to where I came from. One of my wings is broken and my mana is gone. I can recover it but I don’t think I will be able to fully recover from this matter. And traveling long distances by myself is an impossible task."
The little fairy’s voice cracked as she silently started crying. Elaina now understood the situation of the little fairy. And that alone meant that the little fairy was probably smuggled and got juggled around from place to place before the Wandering Merchant picked up the cage and sold it to her.
As Elaina is thinking about the culprits, the fairy continues. "I don’t know if I still have a family to return to. I saw many members of my clan get killed in the process by the hunt. And as for the others, they are also captured like me. The humans who wear those white robes... treating us as heretics despite not even interacting with them...what did we ever do wrong to deserve this?"
White robes...Elaina grits her teeth as soon as she realizes that these people are responsible for the persecution of the fairies. And based on the words of the fairies,
She heard of this kind of business before back when she was still an empress. It’s one of the businesses that was thriving back on the black market and although she made a law before in the Luminiera Kingdom putting a stop to these illegal activities from happening, it seems that it is still happening in the background.
The case of the fairy is unique but Elaina can only sympathize with emotion only as she can’t relate to her predicament. Elaina has helped many demi-humans before and she will continue to do so, no matter who or what kind of demi-human they are as long as they are not harmful or dangerous, then she will give everything she has to help out.
"If you are willing, you can stay here and recuperate your mana and energy. This place is a good place for recuperating anything related to spirits, mana, and even kinds like you who are sensitive to mana."
The little fairy tried to feel the mana in the air and she was surprised.
"The mana here is rich and thick! But how? Even the Fairy Forest isn’t this rich in pure mana!"
Elaina can only shrug. After all, she only knew about this little knowledge after the Feys said this to her. It must be also why the wounds of Zaza and even Shardu are recovering fast. This place is some kind of sanctuary for them. Perhaps it was due to the presence of the Harvest Goddess? Elaina has no idea but perhaps it is somewhat connected there.
"But I am a Pixie! And you are a human! How can I be sure that you won’t be harming me after this? Humans are said to be traitorous and can stab you in the back if you get too relaxed!"
"Some of the workers here are Feys. Since they are the same as you in species since you are part of the Fairy people, perhaps you might find more solace and safety with them than staying here in my house.
"Feys!? But aren’t they supposed to be the first ones who will actively avoid human interaction?"
Elaina opened the door. "If you don’t believe me, then we can go and head there to personally meet them. They are done with the current work for today so I am quite sure they have the time to meet with you, how about it?"
As Elaina said those words to the little fairy, the timing of Shardu peeking through the doorstep was perfect enough for the fairy to agree.
"Wait, you on the doorstep. Please help me to where I am going. Escort me for a bit."
Shardu tilted its head in confusion but didn’t say anything.
"Huh? Why I don’t trust the human master of yours? W-well..." the little fairy stuttered as she realized that even Shardu trusted Elaina and treated her as the master.
Elaina hearing this smiled. Although she didn’t tame the little guy, perhaps because of the tasks that Elaina gives it every time she leaves and the reward it gets every time plus the lavish food it gets to eat every day, the little beast is now totally smitten with the farm and Elaina.
"It’s fine, Shardu. Also, please agree to her terms, it’s fine. I will reward you later. We will be eating meat later on so you will be delighted."
Hearing this, Shardu readily agreed and lent its back to the fairy. The fairy dropped from the table and landed on the back of Shardu as Elaina escorted the little fairy to the house where the Fey were currently living.
The little fairy was surprised that the whole place was different from what she knew. The place is vibrant, the sky is clear and although it is hot, there are no signs that the heat came from the fire, instead, this heat was a natural summer heat generated all over the place. The trees are blooming, and the hot wind blowing over the plants swaying the leaves of both trees and plants alike, creating a green environment. Nothing to the scorched world she knew back then and where they needed to keep on hiding before they were eventually captured.
It didn’t take long for them to arrive at the place where the Feys were living. And to her surprise, it is indeed the house of the Feys. She have seen those homes of theirs and she even wondered how those mushroom-like homes of them are capable of returning to seed form for them to carry around whenever they needed to vacate an area. Seeing one again made her nostalgic about it.
Elaina is having a hard time trying to crouch down so she picks up a stick and lightly taps the doorstep of the mushroom house.
"Coming!"
A few seconds later, Joe appeared peeking through the door.
"Ah, boss and Shardu! That’s a rare sight to see. What’s the matter?" Poe asked, seemingly coming from playing since he was still holding a toy.
"Are your mother and father busy? We have something to talk about," Elaina asked.
"Oh, they are not busy. Wait for a while, I will call for them."
The little young fey returned inside and his voice could be heard calling both of his parents. A few seconds later, Bam and Poe appeared before them.
"Eh, Master, is something the matter? Is it work-related stuff?" Bam asked.
That’s when the two glanced at the fairy riding on Shardu’s back. She got down from the back of Shardu. This causes the Feys to step back in shock seeing her appear before them.
"What the...a Pixie?" Poe was not expecting the appearance of the little fairy and even Bam was cautious as well.
"Why are you guys looking like you are surprised? She is seeking help in recovery. Since you guys are also part of the fairy folks, perhaps you can help out on that part?" Elaina looked at the two Feys but she was a bit confused about their reactions.
"I mean who won’t be surprised? Pixies like her are long extinct in this world! Many people have already learned that the last known Pixie died back then. Most of the pixies have died during the great war before so seeing a pixie again is not something we would think about."
"How can you be sure?" Elaina asked.
"Because we fairy folk are connected. We already received the news that the last life of the Fairy folk has been extinguished and they are officially extinct. So no one would be able to do that at all and claim they are a pixie since the race themselves has gone from the face of this world."
"But now, we are not sure anymore. Her presence alone is enough to know that she is indeed a Pixie. However, the link still said that the Pixies are extinct. So who are you?"
The fairy was stunned at this news, tears welled up on her eyes as she started screaming.
"NO! THIS CAN’T BE REAL!"
