Chapter 300: Chapter 300: MUST WE DO THIS?
"Master ... you .... I .... You need to get out of here!" However, Shadow wasn’t planning on responding but chasing his master away from this place.
The pain in his calf was so excruciating, and he was starting to feel numb. His body was being frozen and with him incapacitated like that, it would be hard to protect his master. As long as he leaves here in one piece, it wouldn’t be bad even if that evil woman dealt with him.
Unfortunately, Orson wasn’t one to dump his men except for women.
"I won’t go anywhere. I know that you want to protect me. She wants me this time, and even if I run away, she will still find me. We might as well just face each other and get this issue behind us!" Orson objected to Shadow’s suggestion and calmly stated his stance.
He would rather face her here than let her seek his children. When a woman is angry, it becomes hard to understand her course of action. He might as well just face this as a man and see where it goes.
Shadow felt helpless when he heard that.
That woman was capable of doing anything. From the way she was provoking him back at the village, she made it clear that she was coming for him and surely; she did.
That kind of vengeful ghost. How could his master even think that she wouldn’t do anything extra?
Before the pain spread through his body a while ago, he was bitten. It was fast and very swift, but since it was a forest and a lot of small animals, flies and mosquitos were common, he didn’t think much. He was in the mood to celebrate the fact that Calista might not be the same person who died years ago.
But who would have thought that the pain would bombard him like that? And it was so excruciating, he was feeling as if his tendons were being pulled apart slowly and in a tormenting manner.
With one leg numb and in pain, his body was starting to freeze, and he felt panicked for his master. If he was caught right now and the same method was used on him, wouldn’t he suffer?
Unfortunately, he didn’t have much time to think deeply about that, as something happened which made both master and servant freeze on the spot.
Clap. Clap. Clap.
An applause from nowhere sounded in the forest where only birds, cicadas and the rustling of leaves and bushes could be heard. And that shocked the two of them.
Hearing that meant that there were people in the forest, but who exactly?
"Tsk, tsk, tsk. Dear, I never thought that you were this sentimental. For a mere servant, you are willing to risk your life. I can’t help but feel envious as I watch this!"
And the answer to their question was given. The two of them looked at the young woman in black from head to toe and shuddered with a foreboding feeling.
Calista wasn’t someone who wore black when she was outside. Most of the time, she would rather wear brown or grey than black, and yet she was wearing full gear. That didn’t look well in Orson’s eyes.
Orson’s eyes narrowed as he rose from the crouching position, his eyes on her wrist, looking for that snake. He couldn’t help but wonder which state it was in.
However, his gaze was spotted by Calista, who broke into a hearty laughter, taking Orson by surprise, or rather fear, as he felt his hair standing on edge, and a hissing sound coming from his behind.
He didn’t want to turn around to see what was going on, but as if there was an invisible force manipulating him, he found himself looking at the back, and he nearly stumbled upon seeing that huge head.
Unlike Whitey he had seen for a long time in his monstrous state, Blackey wasn’t like that. Most of the people hadn’t truly seen his true form, and he got a lot of people wondering just how badass he was. But at this moment, seeing that tongue flicking, those sharp fangs dripping with venom which burnt the grass upon being touched, Orson accepted his defeat.
As long as she wanted to kill him, she wouldn’t need to make a move. There was no way that he could fight against this beast and win.
Rather than wasting time, it was better to just face Calista and do whatever she wanted. She should have something like that, right?
With fear engrained deeply inside him, he forced himself to look away from Blackey and faced Calista who was fanning herself with a fan she got from god knows where and asked defeatedly, "Must we do this?"
And Calista grinned widely as she winked at him. She looked hateful at that moment and all he wanted to do was cuss at her, but when he looked into her eyes, he stopped himself.
’She is hurting! She is in pain! She is grieving!’ that’s what he saw when he looked into those eyes which once looked at him with so much love and dependence.
He was used to seeing all sorts of emotions in those eyes: hate, anger, love and affection, but now it wasn’t the same. Facing her like that, how could he dare say anything that might trigger her?
He didn’t know what happened to her or what she found to be like that, but his survival instincts told him to go along with whatever she wanted.
"One of us must die, but I know that it won’t be me. So, before I send you on your way, let’s have a chat. Shall we?" Calista’s cold voice rang in his ears and he sighed dejectedly upon hearing that.
"I_" he wanted to say something, persuade her and talk things nicely, but before he could do so, he started seeing circles and stars in front of him.
"W-what’s ... what’s happening to me? What did you do to me?" he found himself glaring at Calista, who was looking blurrier the more he looked at her and his words were slurry.
And her cold voice rang in his ears once more. "Just a little dose. We need to go somewhere for a chat!" and that was the last thing he heard before blacking out.
