Chapter 193: SHE BROUGHT ANOTHER MAN!
Chapter 193: Chapter 193: SHE BROUGHT ANOTHER MAN!
On the way to the village the next day, as usual, the two were busy chatting through the window. With Calista sitting in the carriage and Hayes riding the horse at a matching speed with the carriage.
"Sister, have you thought about it?" Hayes’s anxious voice reached Calista’s ears, who was busy munching on a fruit Faith had given her when she was leaving.
The corner of her lips curled as she looked in the direction of where Hayes was, though she couldn’t see him because of the carriage board.
"Are you that anxious? It’s been a few days since you asked?" she responded in a teasing tone, and her statement made Hayes, who was riding the horse flush, the tip of his ears reddening.
"You .... Come on. Don’t keep me waiting!" finding the courage from somewhere, he retorted, knowing that she was at it again.
Calista’s love for teasing others was so high, he had suffered a loss at her hands for days now, but he loved it.
With her acting like that, it meant that she looked highly on him. If she didn’t feel that close to him, she wouldn’t be acting like that.
Of course, he also understood that her acting like that didn’t mean that she was interested in him. He had seen that her eyes weren’t like how his wife and concubines looked at him. In her eyes, he was probably just another human being. And that feeling made him feel both glad and gloomy.
As a man, he was hoping for her to look at him with stars in her eyes, like a love-struck fool, which was what he was used to.
However, at the same time, having her look at him like that made him feel more appreciated. It was rare to meet people, especially women who weren’t his mother or female relatives, to look at him in such a manner.
being looked at like a piece of roasted meat was, at times, very suffocating.
Can’t people look at him for the sake of it and not when seeking benefits?
"Hehehe!" as he was lost in thoughts, the melodic voice of Calista sounded as she chuckled heartily once again, probably amused with her teasing and now she was making fun of him.
He looked up at the sky as he exhaled a helpless sigh.
If his mother were to know that he was suffering like that, just how happy would she be?
Fortunately, Calista didn’t make him suffer for long, as she replied after her chuckle ended. "Are you that sure that’s what you want? And that you won’t regret it in the future? When you are stuck with me, you can’t run away!"
Hearing that, a serious expression replaced the helpless one on Hayes’s face.
"Sister, I never joke around with serious issues like this. I really meant it!" he declared solemnly.
If they were standing next to each other, he might have raised his fingers and swore to the heavens to show how serious he was about what he was talking about.
Unfortunately, the circumstances didn’t allow him to do so.
Inside the carriage, Calista’s lips curled upward, as her eyes squinted happily.
"Are you sure that you won’t regret it?" she asked once again, just to be sure.
Hayes outside nodded his head as he replied firmly, "I have never been so certain in my life. Sister, I am not playing!"
"I believe you!" came the response and Hayes pumped his fists victoriously upon getting accepted.
"Hehe, you won’t regret this, I promise!" with a foolish grin on his face, he said happily, "When we arrive, I will send a letter to my family and tell them about you!"
Calista smiled at hearing that. She never thought that she would be so lucky again in life to meet someone like Hayes.
When she left home for this trip, she didn’t think that she would bring back another man and one who seems genuine than the last one she took in.
Thinking about the future, a smile blossomed on her face.
"Um. You do whatever you want. I will be watching your sincerity!"
"Hehe, don’t worry, sister. I promise to never disappoint. With me here, no one can make you cry!"
"Umph! It’s not like they can dare!" Calista harrumphed as she rejected that.
The people who used to cause trouble for her were all very well-behaved now. it’s been ages since she last heard from them.
As for the others, unless they wanted to starve, could they afford to offend her?
They didn’t dare.

With the entourage approaching the village, it didn’t take long before others recognized Calista’s carriage. And so, the news quickly spread that she was back.
When that news reached the chief, the man hurriedly made his way to the manor, anxious and curious about who she had brought with her again.
Didn’t Lady Diana and her people leave for good?
Then who were the people she had brought that the villagers were talking about?
It wasn’t just him being worried by Ma Susan. When she overheard that Calista was back and being accompanied by a handsome young master riding a carriage, she nearly had a heart attack, she left what she was doing and rushed to the manor.
When she arrived, it was around the same time as her husband. The couple looked at each other before they both released sighs of helplessness.
Could it be that there was going to be trouble in the village again?
And when they saw the young master, the villagers had been talking about, they had a foreboding feeling.
Could it be that her trip this time got her another man?
Or was it a brother?
Just what exactly was Calista up to when she was in the city?
The couple worriedly stood there, hoping for an answer.
And when the carriage stopped at the gates, they both anxiously waited for the other to alight from the carriage.
And as they waited, they watched with shaky eyes as that young master intimately coaxed Calista to alight from the carriage.
An explosion happened in the minds of the couple as what they dreaded unfolded in front of their eyes.
’She really brought another man!’ that’s what they both thought at that moment, and the feeling wasn’t beautiful at all.
