Chapter 48: Meet Ivy Again
Chapter 48: Meet Ivy Again
Oliver stepped in front of the mirror and transformed his entire body into void.
The result was that he became like a shadowy creature—except he wasn’t really a creature at all, but void in the shape of a human.
In that form, if he walked into a wall, he would pass right through it.
But this wasn’t some phase-through ability—it was the ability to erase the wall entirely.
’Anything that attacks me basically becomes nothing,’ he thought.
Still, as the wielder of this power, he was well aware that it wasn’t without weaknesses, even if it seemed like it was. In the end, everything had a weakness.
It was just that some weaknesses were incredibly small—and the weakness of Void Body Transformation was one of the smallest.
Moreover, Evylin had told him that even if he fully transformed his body into void, beings far above his level were still far too dangerous for him.
Sure, their attacks might not hit him directly—but they could unleash attacks so large, so overwhelmingly powerful, that they operated on an entirely different level.
When the difference in level became too vast, the advantages of a single element could become meaningless.
However, compared to most people at his level, Oliver was practically untouchable when it came to survivability.
"I’ve become far stronger than I ever imagined," he muttered.
At this point, he was filled with anticipation for his own future, wondering if he would eventually reach a level where he could move freely across Earth—without fear.
Even in his excitement, though, he still thought about the problem with his mother—something he had failed to resolve.
He couldn’t force her to talk. But he still wanted to find out the truth.
Returning to his human form, he sat down on his bed, only to receive a message from Ivy.
(Baby, I’ll pick you up tonight. What time will you be ready?)
Reading that message, Oliver almost laughed.
"Sometimes you really do need to enjoy life," he thought.
A woman had entered his life—and thanks to that, he didn’t have to go through the hassle of finding someone to hang out with.
(7 PM!) Oliver replied.
He didn’t want to leave too early—he wanted to cook first.
Heading downstairs to interact with his mother again, everything seemed normal.
It was in that moment that he realized just how good his mother was at pretending.
That night, Oliver prepared a simple dinner.
After they ate, he showered and changed into nicer clothes, then asked for permission to go out.
He didn’t plan to wait for Ivy at home—he would wait for her at the front gate of the complex.
He didn’t want his mother or little sister to know he was going out with the same woman who had visited their house.
They assumed he was leaving for cultivation-related matters.
Not long after he arrived at the complex entrance, he saw Ivy’s car pull up.
Of course, Ivy noticed him and stopped the car in front of him, lowering the window and revealing her more stylish appearance.
Oliver saw that her once-black hair now had streaks of red. She was also wearing oversized sunglasses pushed up onto her head.
She seemed to have cut her hair a bit shorter too—her twin braids were now slightly trimmed, which actually enhanced her charm.
And Ivy looked surprised when she saw Oliver again, so she stared at him from head to toe for a longer time, clearly surprised by his more handsome appearance.
Even so, she remained calm, thinking that he might have reached a new level in his cultivation, which had improved his physique. For her, this was a good thing that made her like him even more.
"Baby, will you drive?" she asked him.
There were a few people nearby, but perhaps because Ivy didn’t recognize them, she didn’t hesitate to call Oliver sweetheart—making it clear to everyone that they were a couple and that she was picking up her boyfriend.
"Sure!" Oliver didn’t refuse.
After that, Ivy stepped out of the car.
She wore a short-sleeved shirt, but underneath—surprisingly—she only had on a pair of short jeans.
Compared to the skirt she had worn yesterday, this outfit was more revealing and striking.
Many eyes were drawn to her.
None of them would’ve guessed that just a few days ago, she had still looked like a total nerd.
Once Ivy stepped out, Oliver got into the driver’s seat and waited for her to take the passenger seat.
He didn’t feel like dealing with all the jealous stares—so he immediately stepped on the gas.
The night breeze was pleasant, so he left the windows down.
Sitting next to him, Ivy pulled out a perfume bottle and lightly sprayed her neck.
"If you’d looked like this earlier, you could’ve had your pick of guys. Tons of them would’ve lined up to get close to you," Oliver said.
"It’s not like I’ve never dressed like this before," Ivy replied, surprising him.
"I’ve done it at home—just for fun."
"Didn’t it feel unfamiliar to you?" he asked.
"Things can be learned," Ivy replied casually.
"But I’m not the type who wants to live off a man, so I never tried to attract any. Except you—after I awakened."
"I didn’t even know if I could awaken. Or if I could ever become a Cultivator. So back then, I focused on studying hard. At the very least, I was academically gifted, and I had to keep building on that strength if I wanted to be a successful woman."
"Basically, I didn’t want distractions—so looking like a nerd was the best way to avoid trouble. But now, I don’t need that anymore. I already have a better path toward success."
After hearing her explanation, Oliver could only conclude that Ivy was extremely meticulous about her life.
Now that she was an Awakener, she no longer had any burden about her future.
In fact, she could already be considered successful.
"How about we go there?" Ivy suddenly pointed at a building—which turned out to be a rather large bar.
Oliver blinked in surprise and gave her a strange look.
This woman actually wanted to go to a bar?
It wasn’t just an ordinary bar either.
That place even had a DJ for entertainment—it was practically a nightclub.
From the outside, Oliver could see that most of the people entering were either just getting off work or high school students looking to explore adult fun.
It wasn’t far from his neighborhood, and although he’d never been inside, he knew it had a wild reputation.
It was a place where strangers often met, hooked up, and disappeared into a hotel room afterward.
But if that was what Ivy wanted—of course Oliver wouldn’t say no.
He turned the wheel toward the bar.
And honestly, he couldn’t deny that he was curious about nightlife himself.
As a young man, this wasn’t something he could reject.
In the past, he simply couldn’t afford it.
