A Cultivator in the World Dominated By Awakeners -
Chapter 37: Too Easy
Chapter 37: Too Easy
Ivy clearly didn’t expect Oliver to talk about it so casually.
Her eyes trembled, and her lips parted slightly.
This was a relationship she wanted, but it was her first experience — she still felt unsure about revealing it to others, let alone to her family.
Now, not only did others know, even her grandfather had found out.
Ivy avoided meeting her grandfather’s gaze, but to her surprise, he suddenly burst into laughter after recovering from his initial shock.
"Seriously?" He looked at Oliver in disbelief.
"I thought my granddaughter wasn’t interested in men. Looks like I was wrong. Then again, she probably just wanted someone with a better-looking face. Hahaha... But I suppose that’s fair — Ivy’s actually very beautiful. She just rarely shows it, except lately."
Ivy: "..."
At that moment, the other students who had been confused by her sudden change in appearance finally understood. So... it was all for Oliver.
Trying to act indifferent, Ivy turned and walked toward the gorilla’s hill.
As she had said, it wasn’t too far away. In fact, the hill didn’t seem different from the others around it.
The only thing that stood out was a large tree, whose branches had grown into one another, forming a hut-like structure around fifteen meters tall.
Someone had even reinforced it slightly, giving it a door and windows.
As they arrived, the window creaked open, revealing a massive gorilla’s head.
Just its head was the size of half the body of an overweight adult.
Oliver hadn’t expected to see a gorilla this huge. Even though he only saw its head, he could already picture its entire body.
"Humans... You dare to come here again!" The gorilla spoke with a raspy voice.
Everyone flinched. The sheer power in its voice made their hearts pound uncontrollably.
"Ivy, why did we come here?" asked one of the girls close to her.
Fortunately, the student didn’t realize that the gorilla was a Level 11 Monster.
Oliver, on the other hand, felt a rush of excitement the moment he saw the gorilla.
He casually stepped forward, raising his knife toward it, clearly provoking it.
"What is he doing?" the students murmured in confusion.
ROAR!
The gorilla let out a thunderous roar, infuriated by Oliver’s actions.
It smashed through the walls of its hut, revealing its towering ten-meter body — with four arms instead of two.
It held a massive club made of some stone harder than steel.
With a mighty leap, it lunged at Oliver.
"Too aggressive," Oliver muttered.
Still, he didn’t retreat. Instead, he leapt into the air, slashing his knife at the club.
He wanted to test his physical strength, so he didn’t use any void power at first.
Clang!
The moment his blade clashed with the club, his entire body shook. The force behind the blow made him feel like he couldn’t breathe.
Way too strong — he genuinely thought he might be crushed.
Unfortunately, his physical body was still average. He had no innate talent in that department.
In that moment, he called forth a swarm of void particles, coating his blade with them.
With their help, the knife sliced clean through the club, splitting it in two. The remaining void particles then shot toward the gorilla.
The beast had let its guard down, assuming it was just a regular attack.
The void particles struck its body, boring holes through its flesh.
One of its four arms was even severed.
The gorilla was stunned, quickly swinging itself up into the tree’s branches.
Just one exchange and it was already gasping for air, staring at its wounded body in disbelief.
Because of its carelessness, it had suffered significant injuries that drained its strength.
"Even though this knife is strong, I still feel more comfortable using a spear," Oliver thought.
Still, he kept the knife in hand — his spear was made from Tier 1 material, which wouldn’t be enough for this fight.
Whoosh!
He swung his knife again, sending a massive spiritual slash toward the gorilla.
Even at a distance, the knife unleashed a spiritual wave filled with void particles.
That was the advantage of this weapon: even without a technique, every swing created a spiritual slash.
Now that the gorilla had experienced void power, it didn’t dare take the hit head-on.
It leapt to another branch, but Oliver had already anticipated this using his Void Sense — it had infiltrated the gorilla’s body, reading its movements through its muscles.
Just as it soared mid-air, Oliver unleashed another slash.
The gorilla couldn’t dodge. The blade cleaved into its leg, slicing clean through the knee.
It landed on its target branch, but immediately toppled — now with only one leg left.
Its strength was clearly dwindling.
With a flash of Void Step, Oliver appeared right in front of the gorilla.
"Eat this!" he stabbed his knife into the gorilla’s abdomen.
Its skin was tough — too tough for his spear, but his knife pierced through like butter.
Void particles rushed into its belly.
There was no explosion, but the gorilla’s stomach instantly caved in.
Its eyes bulged wide in disbelief.
"DIE..." it roared, opening its mouth wide, trying to bite Oliver’s head off.
But Oliver simply used Void Step again, moving several meters away without even needing to touch the ground.
"You lot, attack!" Oliver shouted to the human-undead hybrids.
But they were too stunned to move.
Ivy, more composed than the rest, quickly sent in her personal Undead King.
She knew this was the best chance to kill the gorilla.
Even in her wildest thoughts, she hadn’t expected Oliver to overpower the Level 11 monster so easily.
Unbeknownst to her, Oliver himself was surprised too — he hadn’t realized just how powerful he’d become.
Her Undead King was only at Level 5, but unlike ordinary monsters, it could potentially take on Level 8 foes.
With the gorilla severely wounded and barely able to move, the Undead King approached with ease.
Dark energy of death wrapped around its giant sword as it slashed down onto the gorilla.
Even that one swing drained life from the creature.
"Will that finish it?" Ivy watched with nervous excitement.
At that moment, the sword’s death aura surged, forming a massive wave that swallowed the gorilla.
Then, the greatsword struck again.
Buzz!
Blood spurted out — only to be absorbed instantly by the death energy.
But suddenly, the gorilla, now with only one leg, leapt into the air again, looking worse than ever, its fur missing in large patches.
"Ivy, I’ll help!" Henry Wilson was the first to react.
He lunged toward the airborne gorilla, spewing a huge wave of death energy from his mouth, which morphed into a giant skeletal head.
"This monster’s finished," Oliver muttered.
And indeed, the outcome was clear.
As the other undead rushed in and swarmed the gorilla, it lost even more limbs and finally died — marked by the appearance of its Monster Core.
