Chapter 26: Chapter 26- I don’t mind satisfying your curiosity
Ethan’s eyes snapped open. He sensed the chaotic air around him. His eyes gleamed with coldness as a shadow crept toward their location.
Before the shadow could move closer, it was already frozen in place.
The man, being frozen, tried to beg for his life, but his voice stuck in his throat. His eyes flashed with regret.
The ice turned him into a sculpture, shattering instantly into fragments.
’’It seems there was going to be trouble after all,’’ Julian stated, his tone calm like his assumptions were proven right.
Ethan nodded, thinking as much and they didn’t even prove him wrong for once. His eyes grew distant to the smell of blood and wails of death. He closed his eyes back, guarding the entrance.
Julian caressed her hair away from her face, his knuckle gently grazing her face. Julian’s hand paused feeling he was behaving like a pervert. Her eyes fluttered slightly but she showed no signs of waking up.
The chaos stopped, but the remaining survivors’ minds were planted with dark thoughts. They stared at each other warily, even their teammates. The air was filled with suspicious and thick tension.
Some faced their backs to the walls to shut their eyes with their weapons in hand, while others were too scared to sleep and could only tense at the smallest movement.
Meanwhile, in the Oasis city, in a cave décor room, Selina was going through a mental breakdown in the dark room. ’’What’s going on? This isn’t supposed to happen," she kept muttering to herself, her hands dragging her hair tightly.
Her eyes flashed, darting around the room vacantly. She tried to remember her last life, but none of this happened. "Am I in an alternate life and not my former life?" she bit her nails. These words were the only explanation her brain could come up with.
Recalling the people stuck in the dungeon, she was at least fortunate not to raid the dungeon today. She pressed on the ring on her finger, her heart relaxed slightly at the coldness against her fingers.
’some things didn’t change. I still have the ring.’ she thought, falling back into the bed, curling up, insecure at the pitch black blanketing the room.
The administrator worked hard through the night, replacing the trains with fuel and light crystals. The resources were too hard to produce; the latter was obtained from the dungeon, while the former was obtained after some digging and finding.
The city’s citizens were too scared to leave their houses. Workers worked fast to put everything in order.
The technology to sustain the artificial sun and moon was destroyed, so glowing crystals were placed around the important places for visibility.
The people stuck on the road were directed back by the glow on the wall, everyone’s hearts held panic and fear for the future, and some still had confidence in the City’s administrators to put things back into place.

-Day 2-
Their surroundings settled into a suffocating calm, two hundred survivors are down to 150. With bloodshot eyes, their mind was active, unable to sleep from fear of being killed. Only Ethan’s team fared better.
Julian was the one keeping watch now, much to his regret. He missed her warmth, he stared at her sleeping form with longing. Eva stirred in Ethan’s hands, her face turned into his chest, her head rubbing softly on his chest, then settled back into sleep.
Ethan’s hands stiffened at her back as she shifted, his usual expression intact- if not for his reddening ears.
Julian removed his gaze from the heartwarming scene, sitting near the entrance with his back leaning carelessly against the wall.
Eva felt her pillow was warm and hard for some reason, snugging into it; she frowned in her sleep, unable to feel the softness.
Her hands grew naughty, roaming about, trying to soften her pillow, unaware her hands were treading on dangerous waters.
Ethan stiffened like a block of ice; he felt her hands tracing against his body, going slowly to his waist area; everywhere she touched was on fire; he tried to move away from her reach, but she persisted in her actions.
’’Mmm...what is this firm muscle line? Muscle line?’’ mutterings left her lips, her brows furrowed in confusion, wondering when her pillow grew muscle lines, the waist was stronger as well, and she couldn’t help but pinch softly.
’’mm...’’ Her shut eyes opened when she heard the groaning sound, her eyes bulged in surprise to meet Ethan’s darkened blue gaze staring at her with such intensity that she couldn’t help but swallow in fear.
From the corner of her eyes, she saw his flesh between her fingers, all her actions flashed in her mind, and her face reddened in embarrassment.
She had molested him again, the first wasn’t her fault, this cough...
’’umm... I thought you were my pillow.’’ she whispered sheepishly, removing her fingers from his body. ’how would his abs look like, eight or six?’ her eyes slid sneakily at his covered body. When she looked up, she met Ethan’s smiling eyes.
’’I don’t mind satisfying your curiosity.’’ He hinted in a husk dark tone, Eva stared, entranced by his voice.
’’Carry on, I’m a perfectly, blind sculpture sitting here?’’ Julian’s dry, sarcastic tone brought her back to her senses; she quickly fled from Ethan’s hold. ’Dammit! That was dangerous. I was nearly drooling from his voice.’ She rubbed at the corner of her lips, feeling it dry, she was glad she didn’t embarrass herself.
’’Why are we still here?’’ she asked, noticing the sight of the familiar entrance leading to the dungeons.
’’We are stuck here. The warp gate is down.’’ Ethan replied, getting up from the ground. He stretched his numb hands before meeting her stunned gaze.
’’wasn’t it a permanent feature with the dungeon.’’ She mused to herself, only to feel a weight press on her head.
’’Sometimes I wondered if you crawled out from under a rock. How do you not know the basics?’’ Julian’s tone was filled with amusement though his gaze was filled with questions.
’’haha...’’ Eva laughed dryly, pressured by their questioning gaze. She quickly changed the subject, ’’Do you know what the key was?’’ her tone turned serious at the end. Her mind flashed back to the blast, and her body shivered.
...?
They lapsed into silence, feeling there was more to that key, Ethan’s animal instinct held a premonition- everything wasn’t going to remain the same.
’’growl...’’
Eva’s growling stomach brought them back to reality, reminding them they hadn’t eaten since the previous morning.
Settling down, they brought out the food Blaine had packaged for them. They filled Eva in on what was going on, but she didn’t have any extra emotion.
She had already seen the worst of humanity; nothing was going to faze her now.
She tore a piece of dried meat, chewing on it with squinting eyes.
