Chapter 91: Lunchbox
Chapter 91: Chapter 91: Lunchbox
Ivy left the private ground, letting Talia comprehend. Just as Ivy was walking out of the private grounds, she accidentally bumped into Henry.
"Ah! Ivy! Long time no see!"
Ivy gave him a polite smile. "Hello, Henry. What brings you here?"
Henry scratched the back of his head, a little nervous.
"I was actually on my way to invite Talia for a meeting..." Then he paused, looked at her seriously, and added in a lower voice,
"But, um... for the past few days, Captain Silas has been in a really bad mood. If it’s not too much... maybe you could go see him?"
Henry almost cried while saying so. Their captain looked as if someone had stolen his kidney, liver, heart, and all the food supplies.
He took missions one after another as if it were his world. If it wasn’t for Talia’s constant monitoring and preventing him from leaving the military, he might as well have circled the entire earth 3 times in just 6 days.
He became so immersed in building the base(since he couldn’t take missions) that even Scarlett was scared of him.
Ivy was surprised by Henry’s words, but she quickly responded with a nod, "Okay."
But Henry didn’t leave. He kept standing there, shifting from foot to foot. Ivy sensed something was up.
"Is there something else?" She asked curiously.
Henry struggled for a moment, then leaned in and whispered in a voice so quiet only Ivy could hear, "I... I want to buy salt packets from you."
Ivy raised an eyebrow.
Henry immediately held up his hands, like he was afraid she’d refuse. "I’m willing to trade anything! Spices, meat, vegetables, you name it! Just... please."
He looked so serious Ivy couldn’t help but blink.
Henry continued in a low, embarrassed voice,
"Three months ago, we stored a lot of food, but not enough salt. It’s the most used thing, and we were short on time. Now most of the food tastes like boiled socks. I love salt. Like, really love it. Without it, I can barely eat. It’s killing me slowly."
Ivy didn’t say much at first, but inside, she remembered something. In her past life, Henry was the same. He rarely ate much, not because he was picky, but because the food was just that bland. His love for salt was real.
"I can sell you some," Ivy finally said.
Henry’s eyes lit up like fireworks. Then, in her mind, Ivy received a notification:
[Ding! You have earned 20KB.]
She blinked. ’Just for selling salt?’ She didn’t show it on her face, but she was surprised.
Henry quickly pulled out a small gold bar, like he was smuggling contraband. He glanced around before passing it to her.
Ivy chuckled, looking at the 10g gold bar. "How many packets are you trying to buy with this?"
Henry gave a sheepish smile. "I’m not trying to scam you, okay? Since you’re Captain Silas’s wif...erm... close friend, I won’t bargain. Just... five packets?"
Ivy’s eyebrow went up again. Five? That’s all?
Then she remembered, salt prices would skyrocket soon. Henry was being careful. He didn’t want to make a big deal.
But when Henry saw her raised brow, he panicked and thought she was upset. "Okay, okay! Two! Two packets only! I’ll use them like treasure! Maybe they’ll last two years!"
He looked at her with big hopeful eyes.
Ivy sighed and shook her head. Henry’s heart sank.
But then she said calmly, "I’ll give you 20 packets."
Henry blinked. "Huh?"
"You’re Henry. Silas’s subordinate. You get a discount."
Henry looked at her like she had turned into an angel. Then, without warning, he grabbed her hand and held it tightly.
"You’re not just Ivy. You’re the salt goddess!" he said emotionally, tears forming in his eyes. "I’ve said a lot of dumb things to you before. I regret it. From now on, if you’re ever in trouble, I’ll be the first one to help!"
Ivy was stunned. In her last life, Henry never treated her kindly. He barely looked at her and only protected her because of Silas. Now, he was acting like she saved his life.
But before she could say anything, a cold cough interrupted them.
They both turned their heads and saw Silas standing a few feet away, arms crossed, his eyes locked on Henry’s hand still holding Ivy’s.
Henry froze. Then he slowly looked down and realized... he was still holding Ivy’s hand.
With a jump, he let go like he had touched a hot stove. "It’s not what it looks like, Captain!" he stammered, giving Silas a weak smile.
’So stingy,’ he thought. ’I wasn’t kissing her!’
But he didn’t dare say it out loud. His girlfriend had trained him well in handling Captain now.
"I will leave after the transaction is completed," Henry said quickly to Ivy.
Ivy nodded, pretending to dig through her bag but really pulling the packets from her space. Henry took the 20 small salt packets with both hands like they were bricks of gold and bowed slightly.
Before leaving, he grinned and said,
"Oh, by the way... the Captain hasn’t slept well for six days."
Silas glared coldly at Henry again, but Henry was already halfway down the path. He was thrilled. His captain hadn’t punched him! That glare meant improvement!
Clearly, his captain wanted to throw him into military ground for extra training, but now... seeing Ivy worried for him... he has softened!
With a hurried pace, he left, not wanting to incur his captain’s anger.
Ivy turned back to Silas. She looked at him softly and asked, "Have you eaten yet?"
Silas shook his head. "I’m fine..." he began, but stopped when he saw her reaching into her bag.
She handed him a warm metal lunchbox.
Silas stared at it like it was a bomb.
"...Is this... for me?" he asked slowly.
Ivy nodded. "I made it earlier. I thought you must not have had lunch yet, so..."
Towards the end, the tips of Ivy’s ears turned a bit pink. Ugh... she felt so damn nervous!
