Yugioh Card Summoner
CH.644 Duel Runner Tournament, part 2

Day two of the tournament started off with a beginning show as I was making sure the first two duelists were ready to go.

My monsters had taken my request for some shows seriously, so while those tuning to the live stream were watching an aerial battle between Alligator's Sword Dragon and Paladin of White Dragon, I was with Janina and Myla on the starting line.

Spoiler

[collapse]

No, I didn’t show favoritism to Janina. I may have when she designed her D-wheel, but now I wasn’t. Duels are serious business, unless you duel for fun. And because this is a tournament, they are serious business.

Janina was quite relaxed on her armchair looking seat, while Myla was nervous. I think she was afraid of going against Janina and her god monsters.

The two had picked their Field Spells. Myla picked her usual of Aroma Garden, Naturia Forest, Spiritual Forest, which I had turned into a Field Spell, Gaia Power and Forest.

Spoiler

[collapse]

Janina picked The Nordic Lights, Nordic Outpost, Mound of the Bound Creator, Extra Net and Mystic Plasma Zone.

Spoiler

[collapse]

Nordic Outpost is a custom Field Spell I made. It just allows you to special summon 1 Nordic monster from your hand, once per turn. It might sound powerful, but the Nordics really do need it.

Also, I don’t actually have Mound of the Bound Creator or Extra Net, but I remember the two being a thing, so I allowed them for the tournament. Besides, Mound of the Bound Creator is a really cool Field Spell. Extra Net is just fun.

The duelists then had the chance to ban two of their opponent’s Field Spells, so Myla banned Mound of the Bound Creator and Mystic Plasma Zone, while Janina banned Gaia Power and Forest.

I was more than a little surprised by the bans, because while Myla banning Mound of the Bound Creator makes perfect sense, why would she ban Mystic Plasma Zone instead of one of the Nordic Field Spells. Same with Janina. Why wouldn’t she go after Aroma Garden and Naturia Forest?

Okay, for Janina I know the answer. She wants to duel her opponent at their best, so she sometimes bans Field Spells that are their ‘fill choices’. But still. Why did Myla follow her lead?

Well, whatever. The Field Spells were chosen and the track had connected, so we were ready to start. I quickly confirmed that the live stream was on and focused on us, before I gave a short opening speech. I then asked a few quick questions from the competitors so that the watchers would get their input. While this was going on, a quick show of the upcoming field was shown to the audience, but the two riders didn’t know it yet.

I flew myself away from the starting line, as the two D-wheels turned on. The decks of both duelists were shuffled and the first Field Spell of the track was revealed to be Janina’s Nordic Outpost, a Field Spell that would be perfect for her first turn.

I teleported myself to the commentator’s booth, where Alice was already waiting for me. She was my co-commentator for today. Meanwhile, at the starting line, a little start fairy by the name of Fantasia was holding up two flags.

She didn’t even need a mic thanks to Factory magic, but everyone both in the Factory, and watching from around the world heard her words.

“Duelists, get ready!” She began, as Myla took a good grip of her D-wheels handlebar, while Janina just got a more serious look onto her face.

“Draw your opening hands!” Fantasia called out. They both did and after a quick look, they set their cards into a holder the bikes had. The holders gave the audience a chance to see what cards both duelists had.

“Get set!” Fantasia continued her callouts. “Acceleration!” She finished, as she brought down the flags and the duel runners sped towards the first Field Spell.

And it was quickly clear who would make it to the first field border first. Despite her being better with her custom D-wheel compared to the stock ones, Myla was no match to Janina when it came to speed, so Janina entered the Nordic Outpost first, earning herself a Speed Counter, and the right to go first.

“I'll start by using Nordic Outpost to special summon Vanadis of the Nordic Ascendant.” Janina began her turn. “I’ll then normal summon Ljosalf of the Nordic Alfar. When she is normal summoned, I can target a Nordic monster I control other than her, and special summon a Nordic monster with equal or lower level from my hand. I’ll summon Tyr of the Nordic Champions. I’ll then set two cards face down and I’ll end my turn.”

“My turn then.” Myla said, clearly nervous based on her tone of voice. “I draw.” She drew her card maybe a bit too aggressively, as her duel runner shook a bit and for a second it looked like she might fall over on the slippery ice of the Nordic Outpost.

Luckily that Field Spell will end soon enough and Myla will be in a more familiar field. Perhaps because of that, or maybe just to gain back some control she temporarily lost with the shake, Myla accelerated her duel runner, trying to catch up and maybe overtake Janina.

During Myla’s standby phase, both duelists gained a Speed Counter.

“I’ll play Hidden Aroma.” Myla began. Hidden Aroma is a custom Quick-Play Spell card I made, but I’ll let her explain what it does. “With it, I can special summon Aroma Jar from my deck in face down defense position, and immediately afterwards it gets flipped face up.”

Spoiler

[No custom card for Hidden Aroma, as I didn't quickly find good artwork for it. And unlike something like Nordic Outpost, it isn't a continuous or field spell.

[collapse]

As the lovely scents coming from the Aroma Jar reached Janina, she slowed down slightly, letting Myla catch up to her and the two of them were now side by side. I have no clue how the smell can waft to the person in the lead considering the speeds they travel at, but I’ve learned not to question my monsters or the Factory.

And no. They aren’t actually summoning my monsters. They are just illusions made with Factory magic. But because Factory magic is some next level stuff, things like the smell of the monsters is in play. Also, the impacts the monsters have when they clash. And yes, that has led to more than 1 crash in the qualifiers.

“I then normal summon Aromage Jasmine.” Myla continued, as she overtook Janina just before the edge of the Field Spells. Because Myla was in the lead as the Field Spells changed, she got an extra Speed Counter, both Janina and her now having 2 of them.

Spoiler

And since the new Field Spell was one of Myla’s picks, and specifically Aroma Garden, things were definitely looking good for her.

Spoiler

“I use the effect of Aroma Garden.” Myla said, as she shifted her sitting position to better ride on the cobblestone paths that led through the Aroma Garden. “Since I control an Aroma monster, I gain 500 life points and both my monsters gain 500 attack and defense.”

“I’ll then use the effect of Aromage Jasmine. Since my life points are higher than yours, I can normal summon a Plant-type monster. I’ll summon Naturia Rosewhip.”

Spoiler

“I’ll then perform a synchro summon. I’ll tune my Aromage Jasmine with Naturia Rosewhip to synchro summon Aromaseraphy Rosemary.”

Spoiler

With the first synchro of this duel, a plant fairy took flight on her wings, ready to oppose the Nordic forces.

“And since my life points are higher than yours, Aromaseraphy Rosemary increases the attack and defense of all Plant-type monsters I control by 500.”

That effect boosted Rosemary to 2500 attack, making it the strongest monster on the field.

From there, it almost seemed like Myla would attack, but noticing the two face down cards Janina had, she held back on her attack.

“... I’ll set two cards face down and I’ll end my turn.” She said. “During my end phase, Aroma Jar gives me 500 life points.”

“My turn it is then.” Janina said. “I draw.” And during her standby phase, both of them gained a Speed Counter.

Janina took a quick look at the card she drew before putting it into her card holder. She then began to make her play.

“I’ll start by activating my face down card, Gleipnir, the Fetters of Fenrir.” Janina said. “With it, I’ll add Tanngnjostr of the Nordic Beasts to my hand.”

Spoiler

[collapse]

“I’ll then activate the effect of Vanadis. With it, I can send a Nordic monster from my deck to my graveyard, and Vanadis takes on that monster’s level. I’m sending Mara of the Nordic Alfar to the graveyard, so Vanadis becomes level 2.”

Spoiler

[collapse]

“And would you look at that, ladies and gentleman.” I said in the announcers booth. “Janina has gathered all the materials for a big Synchro summon. And thanks to her Vanadis, she can bring out any of the three Aesir Lords she wants. Let us see what monster she calls.” Naturally the two duelists didn’t hear my announcement, but anyone watching the live stream, or even those who were watching from inside the Factory heard what I just said.

“I’m tuning my level 4 Ljosalf and my level 4 Tyr with my level 2 Vanadis.” Janina began. “A trickster they called you, though a god you are. Appear before us and show us your ultimate trick. Synchro Summon, level 10, Loki, Lord of the Aesir.”

Spoiler

[collapse]

The road shook, as did the entire Aroma Garden room of the Factory. That was the power of a God monster, even if this was a fake Loki. Janina didn’t even care, but Myla had to really hold on so that she wouldn’t fall over, and she slowed down enough that Janina easily passed her, taking the lead in the duel.

Oh, and the summoning chants were not by any means necessary, I’ve just infected Janina as I like to use them. So she came up with her own for the Nordic Gods.

“Battle.” Janina announced.

“Not yet.” Myla interrupted. “Before you do, I’m activating my continuous trap, Humid Winds. With it, by paying 1000 life points, I can add an Aroma monster from my deck to my hand. I’m adding Aromaseraphy Angelica.”

Spoiler

[collapse]

After Myla did her trap play, the duel headed into the battle phase.

“Loki, attack Aromaseraphy Rosemary.” Janina declared her attack, and the god did as asked. Pointing a finger at Rosemary, it let loose a finger beam that annihilated the plant fairy, and Myla took 800 damage. She also wobbled a lot with her bike, but managed to recover thanks to the stabilizing wings on it.

Janina moved to her main phase 2 and set a monster face down.

“Then I’ll activate my Dried Winds!” Myla announced. “Now, once per turn, when I gain life points, I can target a face up monster and destroy it.” She said. “And it just so happens that while my life points are lower than yours, I can use Humid Winds to gain 500 life points. So I’ll gain 500 life points and destroy Loki!”

Spoiler

[collapse]

Janina didn’t worry, because I had buffed the Nordic Gods. But just a little.

“I don’t think so.” Janina said. “As the God of Traps, Loki is unaffected by all Trap effects, except “Nordic” traps.”

The effect might be a bit powerful, but Loki is a God. By the way, Odin is unaffected by Spells and Thor is unaffected by monster effects. Otherwise the Gods are the same.

Just before Janina ended her turn, the two of them passed to the next Field Spell, which happened to be Extra Net. And since Janina was in the lead, she gained an additional Speed Counter. But during her end phase, Myla’s Aroma Jar activated, giving Myla 500 more life points, brining her back up to 8200.

It was Myla’s turn, and she drew a card. Both of them then gained their Speed Counters.

She then used Humid Winds, paying 1000 life points to add Aromage Bergamot to her hand.

Myla then tributed her Aroma Jar to normal summon Aromage Bergamot. She then used Humid Winds to gain 500 life points, which triggered Bergamot’s effect, and it gained 1000 attack and defense until the end of Janina’s next turn. Which was just enough to make it stronger than Loki.

So Myla moved into her battle phase and attacked Loki with Bergamot, inflicting 100 damage to Janina.

Myla ended her turn, and as she did, Janina used Loki’s effect, banishing Mara of the Nordic Alfar to bring Loki back to the field. And then Loki allowed her to add Gleipnir, the Fetters of Fenrir back to her hand.

It was Janina’s turn, and she drew a card. Then both players gained a Speed Counter.

During her main phase, Janina used Speed Factory to remove her six Speed Counters, to destroy Myla’s Aromage Bergamot.

Janina then flip summoned her Tanngnjostr, which triggered its effect, so Janina special summoned Tanngrisnir of the Nordic Beasts from her deck. She then normal summoned Guldfaxe of the Nordic Beasts from her hand.

But Myra responded to this. She used Humid Winds to gain 500 life points, and that triggered Dried Winds, which Myra used to destroy Guldfaxe. Myra then used Blessed Winds, paying 1000 life points to add Aromage Cananga to her hand.

Janina moved to her battle phase, attacking directly with both Loki and Tanngnjostr. That led to 4100 damage being inflicted onto Myra.

Janina then set a card face down, and we definitely had no idea what that card was, before ending her turn.

Myra’s turn, and after her draw, both players gained a Speed Counter. They also entered the next Field Spell, Spiritual Forest, with Janina in the lead.

Myla immediately used Speed Factory, removing all six of her counters to destroy Loki. Janina couldn’t stop this, and her god was destroyed. And it isn’t coming back this time, as Janina doesn’t have a Nordic Alfar tuner in the GY.

Myla then normal summoned Naturia Pumpkin, and its effect allowed her to special summon Naturia Cosmobeet from her hand. She then used the two to synchro summon Naturia Barkion.

Spoiler

Myla then discarded Aromaseraphy Angelica, targeting the Aromage Bergamot in her GY, and gained life points equal to Bergamot’s attack, which is 2400.

This naturally triggered Dried Winds, which allowed Myla to destroy Janina’s Tanngrisnir.

Myla then attacked Tanngnjostr with Naturia Barkion, but because of Spiritual Forest, it wasn’t destroyed. But as they say in Arc-V, Janina still took 1700 damage.

Myla then set 1 card face down, healed 500 life points with Humid Winds, and ended her turn.

Janina’s turn. She drew a card and both of them gained a Speed Counter.

Myla used her Humid Winds to gain 500 life points, and then she used Dried Winds to destroy Janina’s Tanngnjostr.

Janina wasn’t in a good situation. Because of Barkion, she couldn’t use her search trap, and she had to get access to her extra deck or she wouldn’t be able to kill it. Well, unless she can buy time until she has enough Speed Counters.

Sadly it didn’t seem like Janina had anything good, as she just set a monster face down, and as she was about to end her turn, Myra activated a trap. Blessed Winds.

It was Myla’s turn and she drew. And gained speed counters. She had also overtaken Janina, so when the Field Spell changed, Myla got an extra Speed Counter.

Sadly, for Myla, the Field Spell changed to The Nordic Lights, so Janina’s most likely Nordic monster cannot be destroyed by battle this turn.

Spoiler

But Myla didn’t let that stop her. She summoned her Aromage Cananga, before discarding Aromaseraphy Angelica to the GY, targeting Bergamot with it, and gaining 2400 life points. This also allowed her to use Cananga’s effect, with which she targeted Janina’s unknown face down Spell/Trap, and returned it to the hand.

She then used Blessed Winds, paid 1000 life points and special summoned Aromage Bergamot from her GY.

She then went to battle. And thanks to having higher life points, the effects of Cananga; Rosemary and Bergamot were all online.

She attacked Janina’s mystery face down with Rosemary, and the face down was revealed to be the 0 defense Mimir of the Nordic Ascendant. So Janina took 2500 damage. Sure the Mimir wasn’t destroyed, but that didn’t help much.
